Boston Marathon hit by explosions

I can't believe there are conspiracy theorists who say that the photo of the man with the blown off leg is some kind of staged photo? Jesus Christ some people are incredibly stupid. Apparently the lack of blood around and the fact he doesn't seem to be in pain makes it some illuminati plot.

Honestly I'm gonna delete Facebook before the retards who make these pictures and videos annoy me even more!

There is a lunatic fringe in this country whose shrill ramblings are like a cancer.

I wouldn't doubt that these crackpot theories are promulgated by the same geniuses that claim the Newtown, CT mass murder was a "false flag" attack, that President Obama is using FEMA to set up concentration camps, et ****ing cetera...

It's just embarrassing and without any facts or basic logic, for example they say the picture is fake because "how could you get a wheelchair".. Well of course you could from an ambulance.

Also seen one saying that it was some illuminati plot because of a Facebook page which was set up weeks ago saying R.I.P the Boston Marathon Victims, when you can clearly change a page name on Facebook. Tragic!

Terrible news all round - totally awful but what mention did the terrorist bombs get in Iran on the same day with much higher casualty and death counts? Yes, we have more association with the US as it's the western world but the imbalance does make me feel a little awkward.

I'd say it's not just the association with the US that has lead to the disparity in coverage. It's more down to the expectation and the amount we can relate. I'd imagine the majority of people expect this kind of bombing more in Iran than the US, and so the more unexpected event naturally becomes more newsworthy. Also, with the London marathon less than a week after these bombings, people can relate a lot more to those injured who were just running/spectating a marathon. We can imagine it happening to ourselves more than we can the Iran bombings.

Whether that's right or wrong is another question, but I think given those two things it's understandable that the Boston bombings will get a lot more coverage than the Iran ones despite the difference in death counts.

I was wondering, if I was in the London Marathon, following the events in Boston, would I still run?

Would you?

Would it be worth the risk or would it be worse to not run and waste all the weeks and months of preperation?

I'm not sure what I would do. (Not that I'm running anywhere). Most likely I would go and try and not be in the last packs of runners.

Of course. There won't be a safer time to do so so soon after Boston. Its similar to 9/11 in that sense, I flew almost one month after and felt incredibly safe

FBI release images of suspects...

boston-bomb-suspect-011.jpg

DesLauriers warned the public not to approach the suspects.

We consider them to be armed and extremely dangerous. No one should approach them. No one should attempt to apprehend them on their own.

So they're definitely American's then

Not sure people will be any safer if security is stepped up.

Isn't there a cross country teacher who ran the Boston marathon and said that it was the first marathon he's ran where there were bomb sniffer dogs and bomb squad out beforehand, and also the first he's ran where bombs have exploded. They didn't stop the events in Boston so not sure there is much they could do in London if anything is planned.

On a side note, apparently the 'dark side' do love the fortnight running up to May 1st for causing a commotion. Not sure if that is just conspiracy waffle. It probably is. Can't say I'm well versed on Satanism tbh.

I can't say the Police make me feel safe, the first thing they did after 7/7 was go and murder an innocent commuter.

I missed this being posted originally--This is truly a horrifying photo, but the background story here is worth discussing, so I'll bring it up now.

The man in the cowboy hat is Carlos Arredondo aka Alexander Arredondo, a peace activist.

Carlos came to the US as an illegal immigrant, and one of his sons, Alex, was recruited to the Marines, and fought in Iraq.

Alex was killed in the war. When two Marines went to Carlos' home to tell him his son died, he became distraught, and tried to kill himself by setting himself on fire, but the Marines were able to save him although he still suffered serious injuries.

Since that time, Carlos (who changed his name upon earning citizenship to honor his son) and his wife have become prominent activists to support families of the military dead, to protest war, and to highlight deceptive and exploitative methods used sometimes by the U.S. military to recruit new soldiers. However, Carlos' other son, still deeply upset by his brother's death, committed suicide just a few years after Alex died.

Carlos was near the marathon finish cheering on runners (particularly those that ran to support his organizations) and handing out American flags to fans and supporters when the first bomb exploded right by him. According to eyewitness reports, his own accounts, photos, and videos, Carlos immediately helped the victims around him, including applying his belt as a tourniquet to aid the severely-injured man in the photo quoted and hidden above.

Her saved this mans life by holding one of his arteries closed saving him from further blood loss.... You can just about see it in this photo...

Exactly what I was thinking. I hope the other doesn't take the easy way out and kill himself but I fear he will, or get killed by the police.

Guy on the run is a student who went missing from Brown University a few weeks back called Sunil Tripathi. Other guy shot dead apparently called Mike Mulugeta.

and @Akitz on Twitter.

Both live right outside where the police car and the suspect car came to a halt. Jraske took pictures constantly and is quiet surreal how close he is and how easy it is to glean what happend/happens almost immediately but definitely before news channels cover it.

News agency Associated Press is reporting that the Boston bomb suspects are from a Russian region near Chechnya, and have lived in the US for at least one year. That information is as yet unconfirmed.

Both been shot dead now? I read a report that the first one was in cardiac arrest at a hospital, suffering from multiple shots to the chest, only to die shortly after. You'd think the police would want these guys alive for questioning

Nah. 1 was a police officer and 1 was the suspect. I'd heard the police officer was pronounced dead at hospital after suffering the above (multiple shot wounds, cardiac arrest).

Not true, now.

Official reports saying the 2 suspects were Russian brothers originally from Chechen/Chechnya (?); had been in US over a year. Legal citizens from Cambridge, MA.
