Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 I know not everyone has second, third or eighteenth teams but I've picked up quite a few other teams whose results I keep an eye on over the years. This season all of them have either got promoted or been involved in play-offs. Not sure what odds there would have been on that last summer. Northampton Town - playing in League 2 playoff final on Saturday Brackley Town - lost in Conf North playoff final Northampton Sileby Rangers - UCL D1 champions Scarborough Athletic - NCEL Prem champions FC United of Manchester - Lost in Evostik Prem northern playoff final Paris Saint-Germain - French champions Barcelona - Spanish champions -- Anyone else got this many other teams they like? Any other similar success stories this season?
Alexikokopops Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Lincoln City - flirted with relegation to the Conference North/South but in the end avoided it by 6 points Chesham United - Lost in the Southern Premier play-off semi that would have seen them promoted to the Conference South. Went to that game. Not having much luck with the play-offs this year.
Hollism Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Friend of mine who I've not spoken to for years was a Tranmere rovers fan, so I've always liked seeing them do well. They were top of League one for most of the season. I didn't check up on them until yesterday to see where they finished (assuming seventh). Couldn't believe they finished 11th! They must have gone on a bad run to rival ours! I don't really have second teams but there are certain teams I like to see do well. Spurs being the one in the Premier League so I'm hoping for them to get the 4th spot. Unlucky last year after getting it but losing the CL place to Chelsea. Also quite like to see the team that wins the Conference to do well in League Two (ala Stevenage and Crawley Town) but Fleetwood finished a meagre 13th.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Grimsby Town - Top of the league for a while before falling away and having to make do with play-offs. Lost 2-0 on aggregate to Newport County. Boston United - Finished 16th in the Blue Square North. VfL Bochum - 14th in Bundesliga 2 after battling against relegation for much of the season. Poor seasons for most of my teams really.
Finnegan Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Hibs faded after a strong start in a hugely competitive SPL. Inconsistentcy cost but a storming season from Griffiths and a run to the cup final have been highlights. Personally don't think Griffiths is likely to stay though, now that Wolves are down, and Hibs are still as skint as ever so progress looking slow at best.
Bugg Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Port Vale - promoted to League One after a difficult few years including administration last year, the future is looking bright for them under new ownership.
The Doctor Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Bradford are in the League 2 play-off final, been a good season for them. Can't see Wells staying if they don't go up this weekend - too good for league 2.
Amin Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Bradford City - A pretty eventful year! League cup final and league 2 playoff final. Terek Grozny - Had a wonderful start to the Russian Premier League season, sitting in a champions league place for the first 10 or so games. Unfortunately they faded badly to midtable. A lot of positives to take away from the season though. Bradford Park Avenue - A decent first season in the Conference North, finishing 7th. Arsenal - Currently sitting in the last champions league spot.
Harry - LCFC Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Luton Town - 7th, dismal season, lowest ever finish in English football.
Fox92 Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Grimsby Town - Top of the league and then fell away (bit like us!). Lost in the play offs. Liverpool - They will get there one day.
ScouseFox Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Bristol Rovers - bottom of the football league at Christmas, sacked a manager and ended mid table quite comfortably.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Eastleigh - Wound up in the Blue Square South play-offs due to an incredible new year run after being in / around the relegation zone at Christmas. Lost on penalties to Dover Athletic in the semi finals. Hibs - Started brightly, faded terribly. Cup run a highlight, Leigh Griffiths has been a constant source of quality and will / should carve out a steady career in English football, definite character... Red Star 93 - Dismal season that's left my favourite French side seriously flirting with relegation with only two games left in France's third tier. Feyenoord - Tied on points with PSV - finished third and had to settle for the Europa League due to the obscene amount of goals the former has scored this season. Graziano Pelle and Stefan De Vrij reasons to be cheerful, though it looks like one, if not both - will be moving to a 'bigger' league than the Eredivisie come the start of next season. Real Sociedad - EUROPE! Velez Sarsfield are doing terribly 13 games into the Argentinian Clausura.
bovril Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 King's Lynn - Promoted to Northern League Premier. Two promotions in two seasons for a club that went bust three years ago. Dinamo Zagreb - Domestic champions again, got nowhere in Europe again.
MC Prussian Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Eintracht Braunschweig - promoted to the Bundesliga SC Preussen Münster - could potentially enter the relegation game spot and fight for promotion to the 2.Bundesliga (they need a win on the last day of the season and other results going their way, though) FC Nantes - Looking likely to get promoted to Ligue 1 again Atalanta Bergamo - even after yet another points deduction at the start of the season, they are likely to stay in Serie A
Ford Super Sunday Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Juventus (Followed since late football italia days. Even asked for Juve shirt over Leicester shirt for 10th & 11th birthdays)- Champions Barcelona (Followed since Rivaldo/Kluivert etc days)- Champions Bayern (Fond of them since 2001 final win against Valencia, Oliver Khan FTW)- Champions Ajax (Thursday night football night on Channel 5, Dutch football days and appreciation of the young players they bring through)- Champions Four massive teams but all of them have had lean periods during my follow-ship (new word!)
hernandez Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Melbourne victory in the a-leauge. Finished 3rd and lost in the semi final to central coast who ended up winning the playoffs. Disappointing season although considering the amount of injuries we had I think we did well to get an Asian champions leauge place
Jimothy Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Arsenal - liked them since Henry played there, was my favourite player. Currently sitting 4th in the league and look like taking a champions league spot once again, if they beat Newcastle. Newcastle - mate of mine is a huge fan so always keep an eye on them. Disappointing season, safety only just assured. With the players they have, should be at least midtable. Huddersfield - Seasons objective surely achieved by surviving. Hibernian (Maltese team) - Champions PSG - Champions Hertha Berlin - Champions of Bundesliga 2 and promotion.
StanSP Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Bedford Town - Finished 10th in the Southern League Premier Division. Luton Town - as said above, finished 7th in Blue Square Bet Premier Division. Expected play-offs at least so 7th isn't good. Barcelona - Spanish League Champions Everton - 6th in Premier League.
Ross-Kemp Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Glasgow Rangers - Champions and another trophy for the cabinet.
Finnegan Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Glasgow Rangers - Champions and another trophy for the cabinet. !! Without a hint of irony.
SystonFox Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 Liverpool. Poor season. Overshadowed by Luis Suarez's antics. Annoyed at all the hate the might reds get
muzzycomeback Posted 15 May 2013 Posted 15 May 2013 AFCR&D promoted to the top division of the UCL in their first ever season!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 16 May 2013 Posted 16 May 2013 Melbourne Victory - 3rd Dortmund - Champions league final and 2nd in Bundesliga
