Wymsey Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22877408 If found guilty, either a 6 year imprisonment or hefty fine.
21st Century Fox Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 This could get very mes.... no I won't bother.
Fox92 Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22877408 If found guilty, either a 6 year imprisonment or hefty fine. I don't think this is a 'either' or 'or' possibility... Would be if it was any normal person though.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 If true then what a dick. I can honestly say that if I had half his income I wouldn't give tax a second thought
Guest shearfox Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 If true then what a dick. I can honestly say that if I had half his income I wouldn't give tax a second thought Why give it to tax when you can just have it in your bank doing nothing...
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Why give it to tax when you can just have it in your bank doing nothing... are you a billionaire par chance? You've got the attitude down to a tee
Guest MattP Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 are you a billionaire par chance? You've got the attitude down to a tee To be honest the amount of abuse tax-evasion gets these days if had millions I'd probably go out of my way to avoid paying it. Even more so when the people who take it off me spend it on illegal wars that send young British men to their death and 16 year scumbags to drop out the next generation of 16 year old scumbags.
leicsmac Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Human nature to hold onto money that you have. Far too many loopholes and crooked accountants out there. Universal worldwide tax system required, but that won't ever happen. As for Messi - he'll get a fine that barely makes a dent in his fortune and a suspended jail sentence, then fire his accountant and hire one who actually does his job.
MooseBreath Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 I doubt Messi or any top footballers take much personal interest in their tax liabilities to be fair. He probably employs some wealth managers and accountants to tale care of his finances.
Jordan Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 He probably employs some wealth managers and accountants to tale care of his finances. Has he been using the same ones that worked for Wesley Snipes?
Ashley Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Surely his tax gets deducted by Barcelona when his wages go into his bank or am I talking about something else
Guesty Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Surely his tax gets deducted by Barcelona when his wages go into his bank or am I talking about something else He'll have sponsorships off other companies that have nothing to do with Barca. I imagine he gets a fee (as if he's freelance or self-employed) then it's his job to pay his own tax. For example when Fifa stick him on the cover or that airline he advertises pay him, it has nothing to do with Barca.
MikeyT Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/28/lionel-messi-tax-barcelona A Spanish court will push ahead with prosecuting the Barcelona forward Lionel Messi for alleged tax evasion despite a recommendation from the public prosecutor the charges be dismissed. The prosecutor argued in June that Messi’s father Jorge was responsible for the family’s finances and not the four-times World Player of the Year. However, the court in Barcelona has decided that Lionel Messi could have known about and approved the creation of a web of shell companies that were allegedly used to evade taxes due on income from image rights. The judge in the case ruled that the case against both Messis should continue. Argentina’s Messi and his father were accused last year of defrauding the Spanish state of more than €4m (£3.1m) by filing false returns for the years 2006 to 2009. They have denied wrongdoing. One of the world’s highest-paid athletes, Messi earns just over $40m (£23.5m) a season in salary and bonuses, according to Forbes magazine, as well as about $23m from sponsors. The magazine has him as the fourth top-earning athlete behind the boxer Floyd Mayweather, Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and basketball player LeBron James.
Dan Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 Dodgy. As stated, he's got previous. Though wasn't he found to not be guilty last time?
Tielemans63 Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 Poor fella. Must be tough getting by on £330k a week and then the bastards tax you. Sickening.
Bryn Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 Tax evasion disgusts me. I don't begrudge footballers their millions, they generate that income and their obscene salaries should lead to obscene revenue for public services through taxation. Evading that duty is abhorrent.
AyewJoking Posted 29 July 2014 Posted 29 July 2014 He should give Harry Redknapp a call, he'll know what to do!

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 29 July 2014 Posted 29 July 2014 He's not the Messi(ah), he's a very naughty boy
