Met Waghorn this week...

At Centre Parcs believe it or not. Really nice bloke...asked whether he would be here next season and he said we will see but i got the impression he will be off. Seemed genuine in his disappointment to not have been involved more last season.

He gives the impression of being a bit of a sulker to me, you can be disappointed at not being involved but you need to show NP why you should be playing instead. He clearly didn't do enough to change NP's mind even though some claim him to be one of his 'favourites'. He clearly has ability but his finishing in the last couple of seasons has been pretty woeful, hence why he has been left out.

Why do you think he's a sulker? He's always given his best when he's played. He's just not good enough to play for us regularly.

On the other hand I've no idea why Kane was getting in ahead of him.

His body language mostly.

I would have thought the last criticism one might have of Waghorn is that he's a sulker.

He's tried his best but sadly all too often that simply isn't good enough, he's never been guilty of coming on and just going through the motions.

I actually think he's better then Nugent.  When he gets a run of games he seems to get man of the match. He can take corners, set pieces, hold the ball up and I've never seen Nugent put in the level of performance Waghorn did at home against Derby.  Its ok saying a players not good enough when he's rusty and coming on for 5 mins or not at all.  For me i'd save some cash and add attacking flair in midfield to help complement a partnership of Waghorn and Wood.

He can't score though, which is a fairly big problem.

when you get 5 -10 mins cameo's you think too much where as match time it comes naturally, any footballer will tell you that.  Hence why he scored 4 in 10 when he did get a run which is 1 every other game.

Will probably get shot down for this, but I genuinely believe he can become a 20 goal plus a season man in this division, needs confidence and would probably play better at a club like Barnsley, bigger fish in a small pond like.

Well he's already been a 15 goal a season striker in his first season at this level, he needs one thing and that is to play football, for his sake I hope he gets a full season under his belt being first choice, then he can show what he can (or can't) do. That isn't going to happen here.

When he's in form he can be our best striker.

I don't know what happened because one moment nigel was asking for more players like him and now he seems to not even be making the bench anymore.

With time and an inject of confidence Waghorn could be part of a leading strike force.

Don't say this much because players earn too much money but I feel sorry for Waggy a little. He isn't a bad player and in his first spell was good for us just there's unfortunately for him Nugent and Wood in front of him and its hard to get a look in. There's been rumours he might join Fleetwood but he's better than that. He could be good for a lower end championship team like Barnsley or Millwall.

Has he? He got 12 in 47 in his first loan season here, since then he's managed 10 over the three seasons. I think you would take optimism to previously unknown heights to think he could suddenly muster 20 in just on season

He seems to fail to control the ball though, and often misses the target. I know he is a favourite amongst some fans, but he isn't good enough. He would be one of the players I'd be looking to get rid of, no question. His set pieces aren't that good either.

He had one good season here, where he scored 12. Had nothing to prove though. Since then, it's no coincidence that the manager's don't seem to see him as a regular, and I think he was brought just to keep us happy/he wasn't a Sousa signing.

I think Waghorn suffered from Pearson trying to justify buying Vardy.

Most of the season Pearson seemed to put Vardy ahead of Waghorn, and yet when he finally gave Waghorn a chance before christmas, he done well and looked to be getting back to his best.

Sadly for him, he then had to have his appendix out, and missed some games, and then when fit, found even a place on the bench blocked by the selection of Vardy ahead of him,

I'm not one to critisize players but I always thought Waggy could've done a bit more to get the high balls, he never jumps to head it and nearly always backs into the defenders and gives a free kick away.

Scored a few good goals, the goal at Cov springs to mind.

All the players are off on 3/4 exotic holidays with their mega wages and Waghorn is at centre parcs lol poor lad

Perhaps he was on an exotic holiday, playing football on the beach and kicked the ball and it ended up at Centre parcs!

i think a bad touch is down to being rusty.  When he had a run of games we were winning and he was looking sublime.  10 in 3 seasons isn't good but Sousa played him on the wing, sven didn't give him a chance and when pearson gave him a run of games he scored 4 in 10. a goal 1 in 2!

Where on Earth are you getting these stats from? He scored 3 goals last season (in 28 games and 25 shots), 2 in 11/12 and 4 in 10/11.

He's a lovely lad who just isn't very good at football.

Good post Mike.

I agree

I wouldn't call him a sulker. Bitterly disappointed at not playing? Absolutely. And I wouldn't want it any other way.
