Five

Which shows something clearly wrong with the preparation.

On the plus side we'll be a juicy price to win the series after this test.

Well our preparation wasn't great due to rain, weak opposition and pitches that were nothing like the Gabba, I'm not sure how much of that is our fault (obviously rain isn't, but why play in Hobart to prepare for the Gabba?).

Ok perhaps abit slow with this, but only England could bowl them out for a good, chasable, lowish amount of runs, only to fuck it up with an almighty collapse.

Shocking.

Thought we were doing to well bowling them out for what we did, here's to the rain

Looks like my free bet (£10) on us winning the first test was a wasted free bet (I knew full well the stat that we always stuggle in Brisbane, but don't go off stats like that, I don't believe in them, why do teams struggle at a certain venue? I mean surely it's down to the team, how come different players still stuggle there? Psychological? Unlucky? I just don't believe that a certain team simply doesn't do well in a certain place, I just don't get my head around those kind of stats/facts)

You bet on us to win the first test??? Excluding Bangladesh we haven't won the first test of a tour since South Africa in 2004 - that's a bold stat to ignore!

Had 2 free bets, £10 and £19. Put £10 on the first test, £19 on the series.

Ok didn't know that stat however so? Yes it's a fact, yes it's a stat but I don't get it, I don't get why this is so? Like I say Phsycological? 'Unlucky'? If so since 2004 i'm sure the team have change many times so again I ask the question why is this the case?

Besides, it's gotta change sometime, surely.

Black or Red on roulette - Likelyhood says it will change either way sooner or later.

But it doesn't look like it's gonna change this time does it.

Broad opened up day 1 with an early wicket. He got to business on day 2 with an early wicket. And now day 3 he rolls up and takes an early wicket. Bet that doesn't happen very often.

Austalia lead by 304 at lunch, if we push on after lunch that is still chasable imo, we can't afford to let them get many more runs.

Ir's still a big ask, we're hoping for alot, we hoping for collapse as almighty as ours but its not as bad as I first feared at this moment in time imo, we'll probably be able to gauge it abit better at tea I reckon.

I'm all for being optimistic but i think Australia's bowling attack is a bit better than ours, that's partly the reason why they managed to spark an almighty clapse, our bowling has looked fodder today, everybody apart from Broad has looked below par so far.

Hope your right though i just can't see it.

Wow, well that's a turn up for the books, don't think i've even been called optimistic before :olol

Well i've said it   :teehee:

Think you're being very optimistic too be fair, we have got about a 5% chance of winning and probably about a 15% chance of drawing, hope that the rain comes.  :fc:

Those 2 wickets at the end for us were huge.

You boys that are unbiased what's your thoughts on where Trott is at? A few years back when you were over here he was your rock and impossible to get out. I expected much of the same over in the UK ashes but he really seemed to struggle. He has now gone 9 tests with out a century and seems a bit iffy against the left arm pace bowlers. Thoughts?

All the words and mind games on the eve of this test have clearly rattled England.

Add to that a not very good captain and it looks like a long winter ahead.

Not really I just think alot of people expected it to be one sided but we were competitive in 3 of the 5 tests but had an unsettled side and lead up. On our turf it brings it a bit closer. I think it will be an even series. It could rain for 2 days and it's nil all. Or KP could do a standard KP masterclass for his 100th

At the minute he's there on the basis of his last tour in Australia - just look at Bairstow. Both had equally poor summers yet Trott stays. Trott's experience and the fact he can throw a few grenades helps him.

Seems to have got in the habit of throwing away his wicket too.

If he was to be dropped and we fail throughout the winter there would be uproar from some you would suspect. Say he does get dropped who comes in to replace him? There's no-one with his experience that could come in. He needs a big score soon though.

The method of his dismissal was shocking, he almost got caught there before and he didn't learn. He used to never give away his wicket like that, on for he is the best time batter going around. Not sure if it's just for and confidence or mentally he is shot.

It should never be this one sided for either team.

I'm pretty sure we will cave in now, the bottle has gone 100%

Can't believe how slowly we start series away from home, ok the preparation was hampered by the weather and also some players not being fully fit or fit enough to participate. But this has gone on too long, we have to take the initiative in the first Test.

Hopefully this expected mauling will wake them up and we can show our true quality so lacking in the last two days.

I think his brain is a bit scrambled at the minute and he needs to stop going after the short ball for a bit. Make Australia change their plans to him.

On a side note, how much of a gobshite is David Warner? Listening to this guy talk you'd think he was Don Bradman.

We've been doing this in the first tests of tours for nearly ten years. Look at India last year. We get 191 in response to India's 521, lose the test by 9 wickets, and go on to claim a historic series win. It's a worry why it keeps happening, yes, but it's not unexpected. It's not all doom and gloom just yet! :)

Plus, I'm not sure if it's just me, but I get some kind of perverse pleasure from an England batting collapse. It takes me back to my childhood and all the time wasted watching us being magnificently crap.
