Ashes 2013

We've been doing this in the first tests of tours for nearly ten years. Look at India last year. We get 191 in response to India's 521, lose the test by 9 wickets, and go on to claim a historic series win. It's a worry why it keeps happening, yes, but it's not unexpected. It's not all doom and gloom just yet! :)

Plus, I'm not sure if it's just me, but I get some kind of perverse pleasure from an England batting collapse. It takes me back to my childhood and all the time wasted watching us being magnificently crap.

I hope I'm wrong but they look rattled to me, and our bowlers will be ****ing tired to boot, and with back to back tests we are in shit for me.

All good runs come to an end, at least it will mostly happen in the dead of night giving us the opportunity to avoid a lot of it.

Doom mongers out Again after couple of bad days, you would think they had learnt by now.

It's been a shocking start but as alex says we seem to do this every tour. Roll on Adelaide.

Sydney and Melbourne are meant for us, if we can stay within a test before xmas day we'll come home with the urn.

Criticism of Cook is unbelievable, not put a foot wrong so far.

The major problem I see now is going 1-0, forecast to heavily rain during all 5 days in Adelaide, I think we have a worse record in Perth than Brisbane so could be 2 down with 2 to play. I would fancy us in both Melbourne and Sydney though 2-2 and Ashes retained. But we will have to work very hard after a poor start.

I think his brain is a bit scrambled at the minute and he needs to stop going after the short ball for a bit. Make Australia change their plans to him.

On a side note, how much of a gobshite is David Warner? Listening to this guy talk you'd think he was Don Bradman.

Probably stil buzzing from the hardman tag at punching the least confrontational and youngest member of the squad in an unprovoked attack.

Big man.

I'm going to the Perth test, and in light of recent events, I will take my kit. I look liked an older and fatter version of Trotty, so I will offer to play in his place at Perth. I like a bit of the short stuff. No one will know, except you lot, cos I'll wear a Fox Leisure undergarment. All will be well

Australia just won by 381 runs.

381 runs! You might believe we can brush that off and bounce back like fluffy bunnies but my 30 something years of watching England tell me something different.

Wow, condescending much?

Do agree that it was a crushing victory though and there is much to be done before Adelaide, not least Trott having a long talk with Gooch and the sports psychologist.

let's hope this is no more than the usual early tour nonsense- we must have been pretty terrible early in the last series out there too as Siddle managed to get a hat trick. We haven't suddenly gone crap and they haven't suddenly got that much better than us (although they were never as poor as the regular beatings they received suggest; we won in India whilst they were whitewashed after all). And this is their first test win in 10 attempts.

England were surprised by a good bowling performance; denying scoring opportunities building pressure and then targeting weaknesses in technique. Johnson was key to this but I suspect he is one bad session away from meltdown again and looks as if he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown when things aren't going well. The game is played over 5 days chaps you don't need to bat as if you're in 20 over game

Anyway I wondered where the doom mongers go when there's no match day thread- looks like in here!

No way should this Australia team be nearly 400 runs better than us, chaotic start.

So many improvements to be made in a very short space of time.

Have you not seen the last 10 years, where we've had some awful defeats yet still won series in every other Test nation?

Thing is corky the Aussies seem to be improving and they were never as bad as people made out, if you analyse the last ashes it was extremely close, so thats why I bet the aussies because with home advantage it would be the difference, but I hope we improve drastically and I lose my bet..

I agree, the Tests were close bar one, we haven't become a bad side overnight who will crumble totally, I think people have got used to us dominating that games like this make strong reactions.

Australia finally win a game and this is how they go about it, why need to sledge the number 11 batsmen when you have already won the test match, ok Anderson does like to have a few words but this is just a bit over the top.

I know if I was batting I would say I'm holding a cricket bat in my hand and it can easily go straight round you're face if you want it.  lol

You're incredibly naieve if you think sledging batsmen doesn't occur. Both teams sledge every batsmen from the opener down to number 11 its been happening for years.

Well what do you expect from Clarke?

Bound to be a bit excited getting one over us, but that wont hide the fact that he has a terrible record as a captain.

Ok maybe I wasn't clear enough, I play and watch a lot of cricket and of course sledging goes on all the time and I understand that but I think this is going beyond sledging and why does he need to do that when they have won the test match all ready, yes anderson has probably had a lot to say to Clarke before because Anderson likes to sledge a lot but I just think this was a little over the top.

Anyway back onto the match because this is starting to sound like sour grapes which it isn't, I knew this was going to be a difficult series because I thought Australia performed quite well with no look in the summer, but that was a pretty desperate start from England. I still think that we will bounce back though and i'm happy with my pre-series prediction of 2-2 but we need to be 10 times better than we were in this test match if we're going to retain the ashes.

I think your comments here are a little biased, yes we were going to win the test but it's a series and Clarke was trying to unsettle him. Anderson has to come and bat a maximum of 8 more times in the series from an Aussie prospective you want all batsmen comming out and feeling a bit nervous.

Let's face it Jimmy would of heard stuff like that all the time, it would hardly be a once off. Beefy said it perfectly by saying something about the only red carpet you get in Australia is when a cricket ball hits you and you are bleeding every where.
