Zoumane Bakayogo - Incoming!

Not the best technically - his crossing isn't great - but defensively sound & VERY quick. Best when running at teams from deep.

LB for free, previously at Tranmere and was their Player of the Year last season.

Should provide competition for Konchesky but more importantly, will free up Schlupp to play upfront more. That latter point is what I'm more pleased about.

26 years old. Good few years still in him I'd imagine.

His wiki page says different pal

Ronnie Moore the Tranmere manager confirmed that Zoumana Bakayogo was leaving the club at the end of the 2012/13 season.[11] This was confirmed with the signing of left back Evan Horwood from Hartlepool United FC and when he did not return to preseason training in June 2013 [12]. Bakayogo signed for Wigan Athletic in July 2013.

Thats because he ran his contract down. He was offered contracts but he turned them down.

Anyone can edit that!

Don't know much about him is he quicker than Konchesky though?

Yes.

Is this official?

Soon.

Hopefully free up Konchesky to leave, think we can put Liverpool-class wages to better use than a solitary left back.

Him + development squad member as backup should be enough & a big improvement on Konchesky + Schlupp (who needs more experience, prob on loan to a div 1 club until Christmas & joining us in January with games under his belt... Unless he's learnt a hell of a lot in preseason)

We need a fast left back who can bring the ball forward & not a hoofer who costs us possession

panic signing?

Clearly

How is a free transfer a 'panic signing'?

We said we wanted cover down the left side, this could be it.

yes the website should announce it at christmas.

Maybe they will do a joint announcement with the away kit launch

panic signing?

How?

It'd be classed as a panic-signing if it was done the way Beckford's was i.e. travelling to the club on deadline day and getting papers signed between 10/11pm if to be believed.

LB was a place to be improved and hopefully this is it.

the fans are getting worried we've made no signings so we sign someone on a free?

panic signing?

How?

Obvious area for development, Konchesky is crap-to-average, his lack of pace costs us at the back he can't pass going forward & endlessly hoofs diagonal balls from halfway line which are easily defended meaning we're on the back foot... Not to mention he was under contract at Liverpool so god only knows what we're paying him... Most of that era's wages need to go so we don't face sanctions.

A left back is the absolute opposite of panic signing!

I did say weeks ago that this summer's transfer activity will be primarily signing up free agents on relatively cheap contracts. Same for most of the clubs I should suspect. With some exceptions, there will be relatively little exchanging hands in terms of transfer fees.

On a free will do, not eye catching but who cares, the guy is rapid. If we go 4-4-2, him and Dyer on the left wing, it will be like Usain Bolt v Yohan Blake.

Centre back & Central Midfielder then that will be it I think.

Unless it isn't Bakayogo, and it's Yaya Banana instead :P

He's quick, adds competition for a LB spot, comes with a lot of praise from League One and he's a free agent.

And some fans already jump to the conclusion it must be bad. Staggering.
