Chris Wood

People seem to be getting in a right flap concerning our defence.......which had one of the best records in league last season.  A bit of cover is required but I don't think we need to panic too much.  What seemed to me to be the biggest problem was converting chances.  We created a stupid amount of chances & during our good run they were going in & we were thumping teams.  If we keep create the same amount of chances we did last year, a fit Wood is going to get himself a hatful.

is Will Hughes actually that good? hearing a lot about him.

in terms of Wood i think he just needs half decent service. pretty obvious really but he is a decent finisher and can strike a ball really well. could be better in the air however

I think he looked good when we were playing the football, but for me when we reverted to the long ball game he struggled, because for me, even though he is a big lad he's not a target man, and struggles in the air.

The amount of times kasper constantly smashed the ball up to the forwards last season, and lost us possession, because it doesn't suit are strikers style of play.

A keeper with a big kick does not constitute hoofball.

We are not Spain and we saw where overplaying got us under Sousa.

Kasper's quick, long kicks keeps the opposition guessing and puts them on the back foot. We've also scored a good number of what I regard 'bonus', 'extra' goals from Kasper's massive kicks. They're a real asset and do not allow the opposition a moment of rest.

However we do need more goals from set pieces, corners.

On a similar theme, if we don't learn to deal with set pieces at the back this year I'm going to shove Pearson's shiny white trainers up his arris.

I cannot remember saying or even using the term hoof ball, what I said was when he hits it long constantly, from what I saw was the majority of times we gave away possession, as wood or nugent are not target men, and doesn't play to strengths.

I am not comparing us to Spain, what I did say was the footballing style suited our players and we seemed to have more success with that style.

The only goal I can remember, but don't shot me down if I'm wrong, was when he kick it long to knockeart, was it the wolves game?; and we scored.

So lets not twist what I said, what I said was constantly kicking long doesn't suit our team, your right it has it place, but not constantly, in my view.

Despite his height, not a guy who fancies headers too often.

Pretty skilled on the ball and in desperate need of good passes coming from midfield, something we were lacking last season.

Mostly, it was just the case of giving it to the midfield and see what they can do with it by getting into the box from either side.

I miss us playing a passing game through the middle - Wood and Nugent would both benefit tremendously.

It's not just that, we're also missing one or two free-kick specialists ourselves. And our corners have only improved marginally.

When he was fit in the early matches I liked his ability to hold the ball and either lay off to another or just run through defenders and bang it in. Hoping that the end of last season was tiredness/injury and he'll be back at his best now

Good post this. I agree.

Wood actually does his best work with ball at feet.

If he's used as a target bloke, let's keep it on the floor more and use him to his best.

If Waghorn scores more than 5 goals this coming season I would be very surprised. Same goes for Vardy as well.

The only real competition for Nugent and Wood is Schlupp but he will most likely be played on the Left Wing imo.

Totally agree, let's hope if we do get a couple players in, they fit the creative bill.

Give him the service, he is capable of scoring 20.

Don't give him the service, and he performs sluggishly like at the back end of last season, then he will struggle, and might get about 10.

Of course Cup goals don't count.

While I'm glad your being positive, what's brought about the change of heart?

You were slating him to indierich and myself calling him crap , stating he wasn't capable of 20 gls a season? ?

Not a fan to be honest, barring a few excellent games (Huddersfield, Bristol City and Bolton) I think he's been largely quite shit. He seems to wander around doing nothing for most of the game, he fails to even bother jumping for any sort of challenge in the air 9 times out of 10 and his first touch is dreadful.

I'd be delighted if he improved and I am proven wrong, but he seems like a bang average striker to me.

I agree....but I got the impression he was carrying a knock because just don't believe you could become that shit overnight.

Am I missing something.. he scored 22 goals last season in the Championship.

Yeah, but for some (yes, there's still a few) that's not enough for us after joining from Millwall.

"Chris Woods shud ave put fourty odd goals in! He's crap... brabble, brabbe... useless. Pearson out!"

That's why it's puzzling, how did he score all those goals when he played like a cart horse for the last 3 months, even a staunch Wood fan would have to agree.

The whole team did, his supply was limited as was any support around him... add that to rumours of an injury and most strikers would look off the pace.

Or you could look at it in a positive way, like he managed to score 20 goals still despite finishing the season poorly whilst possibly playing through the pain barrier

Just think how he could do in a season fully fit
