DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Just returned from York again. Its history far outweighs that of Leicester, but our fair City has it's fair share. Rattae Coritannorum, as it was once known, is thought to have been a supply base for the 14th Gemina, roman legion. Our history is long, but less visible than that of York.

We don't and never have made enough of our Roman remains, they've been continuously discovered/uncovered but systematically buried/moved in the pursuit of commercial/industry gains which have all but disappeared now we manufactured little or nothing. In hindsight now that our prosperity is every more dependent on tourism etc an opportunity missed.

In hindsight now that our prosperity is every more dependent on tourism etc an opportunity missed. I couldn't agree more. I have been interested in Roman history since the age of ten, and it makes my blood boil to see it destroyed in places like Leicester, instead of utilising it, in the way you have stated. Such a wasted opportunity.
separator Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Just seen some posters around town for the new King Richard visitors centre. Opens 26th July http://www.kriii.com/kingrichardiiivisitorcentre/index.html I never went to the temporary exhibition so will make the effort to go to this.
WhatsHisName Posted 20 June 2014 Author Posted 20 June 2014 There are some good postings here about how we've neglected our Roman history. Hopefully thanks to King Richard III and all the publicity and interest around him, our roman history will now be taken more seriously and given the publicity that it deserves.

I now know how Raw Dykes Road got its name.
WhatsHisName Posted 20 June 2014 Author Posted 20 June 2014 http://www.thiswasleicestershire.co.uk/2012/11/roman-leicester.html Interesting write-up about Leicester's Roman history. I now know how Raw Dykes Road got its name. Thanks for putting that up as it's a very interesting read. I thought 'Raw Dykes Road' was quite a bad street name, but now I think it's a great name and I find what was written about ''The Raw Dykes' to be very interesting
WhatsHisName Posted 23 June 2014 Author Posted 23 June 2014 Richard III has helped to boost the value of tourism in Leicestershire by £482 million in just one year.http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Richard-III-helps-boost-tourism-Leicestershire/story-21277335-detail/story.html And the figure will shoot up next years with the reburial and the visitors centre that will open.
WhatsHisName Posted 28 June 2014 Author Posted 28 June 2014 Kasabian: We tried to get Richard III's bones on stage, but they wouldn't have it http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/tried-Richard-III-s-bones-stage-wouldn-t/story-21300145-detail/story.html Why they wanted his bones on stage I don't know, but they probably had more chance of getting the bones on stage, then rhe Plantagenet did of getting them sent to york
Finnaldo Posted 28 June 2014 Posted 28 June 2014 And the idiot who wrote that doesn't know that Leicester Cathedral was built over where there used to be a medieval church, a Saxon church , and a Roman temple before those churches were built. Fun fact: the Roman temple was for Mithras, which was borrowed from the Zoroastrian religion, which was one of the main pre-Islam religion in the Middle East. Thus, you could argue that there was an Asian presence in Leicester before the very notion of being 'English' was created.

I heard it was an ancient indian burial ground like the movie poltergiest, and then they built it on top of a pet cemetery like the film pet cemetary...........how spooky

Thanks for putting that up. that's very interesting and I will have to do some research on that. Those infidels in York should bow down to their south east, towards Leicester and where King Richard III will be reburied.
WhatsHisName Posted 3 July 2014 Author Posted 3 July 2014 ''York MP still fighting to do right by king''http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/main-topics/general-news/york-mp-still-fighting-to-do-right-by-king-1-6707176 It's embarrassing how some idiots from York don't seem to know their place, and how they should bow down to their south east towards Leicester.
Spudulike Posted 22 July 2014 Posted 22 July 2014 Blimey, this looks good .... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-28424958
Darkon84 Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Blimey, this looks good .... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-28424958 Looks decent to be honest. I think I'll have a poke around in there some time. I went to school in that building too, so it'll be good to see what they've done with it. Though I can see they've kept the random, protruding 'glass cabinet', attached to the art studio
Voll Blau Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 http://poll.pollcode.com/65765645_result?v Some of the comments. Ignorance and arrogance on an astounding scale.

midland_red Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 it will be very entertaining next year because there will be the funeral of KR3 at the same time as we should be safely esconced for another year of PL footy. Snottingham and Chaventry will be going green with envy

C-man Posted 30 July 2014 Posted 30 July 2014 My other half has spent the best part of 6 months doing the marketing for the KRIII centre and as part of it she runs that Facebook page. As a result I spend at least an hour a week laughing my head off at this fvcking northern retards and their comments. They are fully grown adults who pride themselves on their knowledge of history who are stooping as low as this. An utter embarrassment to mankind.
David Guiza Posted 30 July 2014 Posted 30 July 2014 The guy who labels it as 'An insult to Yorkshire', has clearly never been to half the towns in the dosshole.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 30 July 2014 Posted 30 July 2014 http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1795011 Welcome to Digital Spy! Now running at 176 pages of repetative bigotry, trolling, misguided opinions, misinformed/misinterpreted historical research and downright nastiness thinly veiled as discussion. Oh interspersed with the odd voice of reason. Well. that clown made a bloody fool of himself! He doesn't know his history. Gloucester have as much right to him as York, as he was the Duke of Gloucester. What a silly old donkey he is.
