Manc-Fox Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 He is seriously unwell, suffering from Pearsonitus. This is a condition that has affected a number of our players in recent times where genuine attacking talents have had all of their flair and real positive intent coached out of them by 'working hard in training' and learning to play as totally ineffective defenders. Using others comments to back up what I'm saying.
Manc-Fox Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 Hello The People's Hero. Using yourself to back yourself up. YOU WANTED THE DEBATE WITHOUT BEING THE DEBATE. Nice work! Renart - you can't edit you're original post and add words after I've quoted other members as examples to prove you wrong.
Renart Posted 27 August 2013 Posted 27 August 2013 I don't think that edit makes any difference. Only thing I added. When you asked for the other thread to be deleted you said that you wanted to talk about this without it being about you. I just remembered that after I left the computer. I hadn't realised that your next two posts were in response to me. I just thought you were just rambling on. Your points aren't compromised by what I said. What is compromised is my sleep. Had just gone to bed dreaming of food after re-reading some of this when you posted. Night night. Try cheese on toast with lime pickle. It might sound weird but My God it is so Good!
Fox92 Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Lets be honest apart from a few screamers he hasn't done alot. Gally Mk2 Creating goals? Defending? ... Did you not see him do this? He's a better player than Paul Gallagher. He challenges for the ball, he is better at defending, he can use both feet. Just because he hasn't scored a screamer in a while, doesn't mean he's a bad player. Look at his all round game. It wouldn't suprise me if he turns out to be a nice little player for Blackburn who commands a larger fee in the future. Also, did anyone hear Shakespeare's comments post match yesterday? Something along the lines of "me and Nigel don't know about him going". Director of Football, etc!?
Winnershfox Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Will be pleased to see him go. Is arrogant and has a band of hangers on who arent doing him any favours. Makes no effort with the fans and has a liking to visits to the KFC. Lets bank the million and move on.
Ric Flair Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 It's a shame it hasn't worked out for Marshall at Leicester, I genuinely thought he would be perfect for Pearson, his style of play just seemed ideal. He'd excelled under Megson for god sake, yet for some reason since Knockaert's arrival and he got caught rifling that scrubber he's gone right off the boil. I do wonder if there's much more we as a club could have done, i'll let Nigel off as I don't think this is his fault at all. Just one of them things, hopefully we can use the dough to bring in another creative player.

We all thought he was going to set the world alight at the start of last season and he was pants! Strikes me as the kind of bloke who thinks he has made it and doesn't care about improving his game.. Poor professional!
shade Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 when players are struggling to get in to the team, it comes down to which of the two personality types are you: 1. are you an ego-driven, nandos-loving schmuck on silly money who thinks the manager is wrong, you sulk, go quiet and refuse to knuckle down like a petulant teenager and wait for your chance. 2. are you a young man who want's to play football, appreciates the money you're earning, and is willing to work hard in training and prove you deserve a chance, and grab it when it comes. which is marshall?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 not bothered he is going, could have been very good for us, but isnt even good enough to even get in our team now, so let him go.

There's probably a third category though. The player who behaves as in your number 2 but just isn't good enough relative to what else there is in the squad. Who knows if this is marshall. We saw bursts of talent in his first six months, but that is more or less it.
Bettsj2 Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Respect your opinion but will have to agree to disagree. See earlier posts on this thread re NP changing players for the worse, I'm not the only one with that view. Nobody has suggested that Marshall or others cannot do both or that they might leave because they're expected to defend. My original post implies that NP no longer plays him because he is no longer the player he signed because of his coaching and that players are unhappy because of NP's poor management and communication. I do try my best to recognise somebody elses opinion and respect it completely but in this case, I really cannot see the sense in what you (and those that agree with you) are saying. Unless you're saying that the coaching staff said to Marshall that he is no longer required to play a creative game, instead his sole purpose is to in fact protect the full back and not venture forward, you are completely saying that he is incapable of fulfilling both roles. As for the communication thing, I agree to an extent. Different managers have different ways of dealing with things on the training pitch. MON didnt take training, he left it to Robertson. Sousa didnt even speak to the players outside of matchdays according to Wellens amd Sven was everyones mate. Matt Mills and Neil Danns have both said that Pearson didnt justify his decisions to them despite their requests. I've seen that kind of management style used before where you try and rule by fear. If you tow the line its fine, if you step outside the line, you're out. I dont agree with that style but for now it seems to be getting results. Yes players like Marshall have suffered but Knocky doesnt seem to be suffering from a lack of creativity, neither does Lloyd and Vardy has dramatically improved. Not all coaching methods will work for all players but that is not the same thing as a player being ruined by a particular coaching style. I like Marshall and want him to do well but we are doing well at the minute because we're operating as a unit for a change and not dis-jointed individuals. I'm sure there will be an occassion in the not too distant future where Beckford will score a winner, Marsh will twat one in from 40 yards and we'll lose without scoring. Everyone can then say, 'Told you so'. Until then, i'm happy to support the team and not worry about a sulking young man with an excellent right foot.
Manc-Fox Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Bettsj2 - fair enough and point well made. IMO players should work hard to get back in the team. If they do that and it doesn't work out, then let them move on. If they're not prepared to fight for their place, then let them move on. He might not fit in with NP's style of play and recent results suggest that the team are doing well without him. Will be interested to see what the future has in store for him. Hope the club have included a sell on clause in the deal.

Unless you're in the know i'm very surprised Marshall doesn't fit in to Pearson's style of play, he's exactly the type of player suited to Pearson. He played under Gary Megson whose of similar turgid footballing background. Marshall has always been defensively ok, even when he first came to us he tracked back and didn't play the free role that people are led to believe. They've been clouded by his long range goals vs Chelsea, Hull and Ipswich. Yes he played behind the strikers at times but he kept shape when asked to, I remember watching him closely and being impressed we had a wide player with equal creativity and ability to defend, something I knew was needed to excel under white trainers. He's not pushed on, i'm led to believe Marshall suffers from mild depression and I think him shagging that horror show behind his missus back last year effected him and it's not got much better. I think he wants to go back up north, this decision has been made easier by his Leicester career stagnating last season. It's not worked out, which is a shame. I do agree that certain players have been handled in the wrong way by Nigel but i'd be surprised if Marshall is one of them.

He has plenty of ability but I too have heard rumours of regular piss ups back up north.
NeilLCFC Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 What is the name of this sports media/travel company you have recently moved to for work? Its not called Blackburn Rovers by any chance is it mate? Ben Marshall Media and Travel
theessexfox Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 What about crisp flavours? Sometimes I'm a salt and vinegar guy, but I occasionally switch to prawn cocktail.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 I think I was blinded by his 30 yard screamers when he first arrived but particularly the 2nd half of last season he didn't seem to offer much and I wouldn't be too fussed if he was moved on, helping the club financially without really damaging the playing squad I want to thank him for the goal against Chelsea though, that was an absolute corker

Guest Col city fan Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 I must say I'm really very surprised at the sale of Ben Marshall. It's not usual that Pearson signs and then sells his own players. At least, I can't think of it happening very often. I can only assume Nige has reached the conclusion he's not that good on the pitch (as I have) AND there are probably issues off it. A million quid seems sound business to me. Marshall will probably do ok at Blackburn, but he's nothing special IMO. I'd be far more concerned if we were to sell the likes of Morgan, Knocky etc.
Ric Flair Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 One other angle to look at this, is that Pearson didn't particularly want to sell Marshall but the DOF has made the decision. Robinson was the DOF at Stoke when they sold us Marshall, perhaps he doesn't rate the lad and has told the owners this is a good deal. Interesting.
foxfanazer Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Would be a shame to see him go and wouldnt free up much of the wage bill. Unless its Marshall wanting out, I don't see the point in this
Burmesefox Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 What about crisp flavours? Sometimes I'm a salt and vinegar guy, but I occasionally switch to prawn cocktail. Walkers: Prawn cocktail, roast chicken, ready salted (gone off cheese and onion as now very sugary). Smiths: Pickled onion monster munch, salt and vinegar chipsticks, spicy tomato snaps, and chhese quavers Currently I'm eating crispy bacon frazzles (a rarity for me) but at 39p for 43g of monosodium glutimate it represents excellent value and maximum taste whilst delivery **** all nutritional value.
