ScoutMan Posted 3 September 2013 Posted 3 September 2013 well i heard that the wolves fans have only just stopped laughing about the akinbiyi deal so have set this up for many more years laughter Well I laugh at the fact Wolves want to redevelop Molinuex into a 50.000 seater stadium. Big optimism 2 years ago...

dayday Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Just a thought,if Pearson was trying to get Doyle does that mean he is not convinced about Chris Wood?
sphericalfox Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Maybe because he's on international duty? Unless he's had a strange last minute call-up, I'm very doubtful he is. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23870696 There is every chance that he wouldn't have played in the Wolves squad for the cup run anyways, so there's no point in getting hopes up until something a little more concrete comes out, if at all.
VLC86 Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Just a thought,if Pearson was trying to get Doyle does that mean he is not convinced about Chris Wood? Are you?
indierich06 Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Chris Woods has been dog shit for ages. Who?
Ric Flair Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Not having this about Chris Wood, yet another scapegoat. Play to his strengths and he'll bury goals. Nobody just turns shit like that, we've started playing direct football and not to his strengths like we should do. Simple as THAT. Nugent has been similar, his goals return has been just as appalling but where's the stick for Nuge? Nugent's style of play with his none stop running is always going to be a fans favourite with the goobers just like Iain Hume. Nothing too much wrong with the pair of them bar the style of play, blame the manager and the defence for their insistence on hoofing it.

Schmeichel is becoming one of the worst culprits for this, he gets some good length on his kicks, but he just hoofs it aimlessly every single time. We should be playing it out from the back. From what I saw of Miquel against Charlton, he could be the ball-playign defender we've been after, he looks very calm and composed on the ball and his passing is decent. Very keen to see Hammond too, if he can be the link between defence and midfield, allowing our midfielders a bit more freedom, then we might finally be able to get back to the slick, passing football we saw last season instead of this mindless hoofing. I don't mind a bit of hoofball if it gets results, but in games like Saturday's against Charlton, it's very frustrating when you play shit football and lose. If we're going to lose, I'd much rather see us lose playing the football that we played in the defeat at Charlton last season, rather than this hoof shit.

You're bang on, should have mentioned Kasper. He is without doubt the worst culprit. What's also irritating is Morgan is a very capable passer and often brings the ball out of defence. I therefore believe it's Pearson instructing his team to go long or go home. Penis.

I think that opinion of Wood is a minority viewpoint in the main. Anybody who's seen Wood play since he joined us would realise that, despite the fact he's a tall bloke, he's not the target man he's a much better footballer when we play football on the floor than in the air.

Agreed, which is why it annoys me when people slate Wood for the slump he's in. No wonder he looks frustrated when he's got to try and do his job without being given the necessary platform to do so. It's like me as an accountant having to submit the yearly accounts using tipex and a loaf of bread.

When the ball has been played to his strengths, his first touch has been extremely poor for a long time now. Maybe he is low on confidence?
Ric Flair Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 When the ball has been played to his strengths, his first touch has been extremely poor for a long time now. Maybe he is low on confidence? Again disagree. The strengths of his are when he gets the ball in at chest level downwards and he gets it down and peels off. His runs from deep against Leeds where he hit the post and Carlisle for his first show that it's still in the locker. Perhaps he isn't firing on all cylinders but it's hard to do so when 95% of the time the balls whacked up at you, he's pony in the air. I personally think he should be better in the air but he's never looked like that's his strength so it's hard to then criticise when he's shown a lot of attributes at other parts of the game. He'll bag vs Wigan anyway.

What's also irritating is Morgan is a very capable passer and often brings the ball out of defence. I therefore believe it's Pearson instructing his team to go long or go home. Penis. Agreed. The thing is, this team is quite clearly capable of playing a quick passing game, these same players and the manager who instructs them have done it before! I don't know if Pearson, or the players have lost confidence in their ability to play this style, but they should sort it out because we've got the players to play this system, and play it well. This is why I really hope Hammond is a bit of a bastard who can win the ball, mop up in front of the back 4 or 3 and generally relieve the pressure on the defensive side of things, and allow the team to be more attacking. I really hope this is why Pearson's brought him in, because we definitely don't need to go even more defensive.

Doyle is impressive with hoofball tactics. He has succeeded and scored goals with Keane at international level. He's very good at defeating the offside trap, and has very good touch and control. <bringing it back to topic>

sphericalfox Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Then that is a good reason to bring him in allowing Wood and Vardy to play their game the way they play it. I despair with ROI when they play it, believe you me, I don't want us to resort to this, it really pisses me off. However, given that Pearson or the team rather, do inevitably resort to this at some point, I know who I'd want up front to receive these. A Doyle to break the offside, and a Vardy to run after or alongside.

He was as bad under Sven. Aimless, quick hoofs down to Beckford who could never get it under control. I've said time and again that I'm amazed Pearson lets him do this. Then again, Pearson is also letting Moore hurl his long throws into the box. Strange management Nigel.

When kasper came, he used to pick it up and look to throw to the full backs always looking to counter. It seems to be deliberately taken out of his game.

It seems to be deliberately taken out of his game. If that's the case, it's been done so by both Sven AND Pearson. Kasper isn't that accurate and, whoever manager is in, it doesn't work. Football is about retaining possession and scoring goals. Kasper's kicking this way gives possession straight back to the opposition more so than not. I'm no expert, but this is clear now and was under Sven.

What's he supposed to do if he doesn't have a short pass on? They try and get them done quick, especially goal kicks (obviously as I'm sure you know, you can't be offside from a goal kick) because its a great chance of getting in behind and scoring. On to Wood - I've been saying for ages if we play to his strengths he's going to be effective. This so exactly what we did at Carlisle and he could've had more than 3.
