I'd sign Kevin Doyle, happily.

The cold hard truth is that we have Wood and Nugent who really should be first choice strikers and Vardy who is the new Waghorn. What we don't have is real competition for places beyond mediocrity and dips in player performance. Both Wood and Nugent need the ball played into their feet and if we continue to spend time chucking in long throws and booting it up the field we should at least buy a striker who has a prayer of getting on the end of something, holding the ball up or winning/scoring headers.

I'd rather we nurtured pace and creativity in midfield, personally but I accept this is the Championship and we need alternatives to Plan A (Whatever that is now)

Not naive, I just prefer to believe a player who has said the same things for the entire 4 years he's been here and is obviously one of those rare footballers who has his head screwed on.

Oh and I'm glad we didn't get Waghorn. I wouldn't want him here even for free. He'd be 4th choice at best anyway.

Probably right on all comments to be fair.

Well at least his comments have been consistent....like his lack of goalscoring.

Either you are naive or I am cynical. It just seems odd he came out with his fan pleasing statement after considering his options, that's all.  He could've ended all speculation before the window shut but didn't.

I've come to my conclusions about that and you've come to yours.

Who's to say who's right?

Or

Maybe he's happy there but like anyone is keeping his options open just in case

If Wolves strikers are so much better than Waghorn and have their heads screwed on properly why are they in League 1?

Because they're crap?

Too true. Waghorn is a ball and chain for us. He would struggle in league one, and is a lost cause in this league.

It really does make me wonder how many games you watch?

Waghorn is nothing special. He's strong and deceptively quick but not a great finisher. But saying he'd struggle in League 1?

Nah...

Even if you watched every game it would be very hard to make decent judgement on Waghorn atm he barely ever plays

Because we've had a series of shocking managers.

I'd take Doyle, Ebanks-Blake and Griffiths over Waghorn any day of the week.

Ebanks-Blake isn't here now. His contract ran out at the end of last season. He didn't want to sign a new one. He's currently sitting without a club and recovering from a broken leg in 3 places. Won't be fit until October apparently. There's your striker you've been after. He still managed 13 goals for us last season and we were awful.

He'd probably do ok in L1 as he's got plenty of strength and he'd get lots of chances. It's just that Wolves aren't crying out for a striker with a 1 in 5 goalscoring record. We already have that in Sigurdarson who is a year younger and looks like he'll be a cracking player.

I imagine Waghorn will probably leave at the end of the season and that'll probably be best for both him and the club, but he'll no doubt end up at a lower/mid-table Championship side and do very well for them with a new lease of life. I take it that you are choosing to forget the few games that he got a run in the side last year and was actually our best player in most of them?

Waghorn's time here is up and he's stagnated a bit but there'll be plenty of people eating words when he goes on to resurrect his career elsewhere. There'll be people asking if we were right to let him go/not give him a chance, and we were/are, but it's just one of those things and situations where a change is best for both parties.

As for Wolves not needing him... lol - Good one! He'd quite easily help fire a team out of that league. Yes Griffiths is scoring goals but so did Fryatt for us at that level and we all agreed that Waghorn was an improvement upon him they year we came back up to The Championship. There aren't exactly goals bursting out of the other strikers at that club.

He was certainly our best player at missing sitters and hitting the woodwork or putting the ball close enough to the keeper that others could claim he'd only been stopped by 'another' world class save'.

Looked a decent player with a bright future until Sousa got his hands on him, he's never recovered despite having numerous opportunities.

It has nothing to do with the quality of managers.

It's not like they played Ebanks-blake in goal and hennessey up front.

You had players on the pitch who had played in the premier league for 2-3 years....but unfortunately for you they didn't give a shit about your club.

We allowed him to speak to Celtic but then we never even accepted a bid because Doyle made it clear he was willing to stay at Wolves after speaking to both clubs. If he'd have wanted to go we would have negotiated a fee and he would have gone.

Didn't know about Ebanks-Blake leaving you, probably not heard much seen as he's out injured. Would still take a chance on him though and wait for him to get fit. Always rated him in this division certainly knows where the goal is.

Nothing to do with Doyle, but your centre half Danny Batth looks a solid defender on the occasions I've saw him.

I'd snap Ebanks Blake up. It's a risk given his injury but his goal scoring record at this level is obscene.
