What's he supposed to do if he doesn't have a short pass on? They try and get them done quick, especially goal kicks (obviously as I'm sure you know, you can't be offside from a goal kick) because its a great chance of getting in behind and scoring.

On to Wood - I've been saying for ages if we play to his strengths he's going to be effective. This so exactly what we did at Carlisle and he could've had more than 3.

There's been plenty of occasions where he's had a short option and he's hoofed it anyway. The route one method has yielded us maybe one or two goals in recent memory that I can remember... is it really worth persisting with it for such a poor return?

Nine times out of ten, we surrender posession and we open oursevles up to another attack. I'd be much happier if we played it short, passed it around and let the ball do the work, rather than everyone running themselves ragged, fruitlessly trying to get on the end of an aimless punt up the field from Schmeichel or Konchesky.

I'm with you. But like I said, if there's no option on or no-one is showing for you what can they do? It's not just down to the hoofers it's up to the others to make themselves available.

How is it he fault of ye defence if they don't have options and have to go long?

Because there are options, King, Drinkwater and James are constantly dropping deep to receive the ball but it's going long at every opportunity.

If that's the case, it's been done so by both Sven AND Pearson. Kasper isn't that accurate and, whoever manager is in, it doesn't work.

Football is about retaining possession and scoring goals. Kasper's kicking this way gives possession straight back to the opposition more so than not. I'm no expert, but this is clear now and was under Sven.

Rubbish, he only played about 15 games under sven. He didnt change this aspect of his game until nov/dec time, it was clearly a pearson directive. I think old age is clouding your memory col ;)

Schmeichel was rolling it out a lot more on Saturday, then it got hoofed as we don't have a midfielder who can spot, let alone execute, a killer pass to one of the forards.

We do. All 3 of the central midfielders that started Saturday have done and are capable of doing so.

On going long:

To be fair we didn't go long at all in the Birmingham game. We would have lost that game 0-1 last season, because the ref was crap, the fans were on their back and the opposition were organised and hard to break down. We would have panicked and started hoofing it, regardless of whether Wood was playing or not. The patience and maturity of that performance - i.e sticking to our A game which was working, but just not yielding a goal, was the best thing we did in that match and long may it continue.

We do need to cut out Moore's throw in's and Schmeichel's kicking or at the very least drastically cut back on their use.

On Doyle:

If it happens we'll be sorted up front. Wood/Nugent/Vardy/Doyle sounds pretty good to me.

... the same player who's scored 14 in 28 games for us?

Yeah that one.

Kasper has been like this for ages!

He was as bad under Sven.

Aimless, quick hoofs down to Beckford who could never get it under control.

I've said time and again that I'm amazed Pearson lets him do this.

Then again, Pearson is also letting Moore hurl his long throws into the box.

Strange management Nigel.

Pearson isn't "letting" either thing happen ...... he's encouraging it.

He's the manager - Even on a sunday if the manager says stop hoofing it and look to roll it, throw it, pass it short and to feet to the keeper then he'd do so.

It wasn't a surprise to him that Moore decided to take a throw - they'll have decided that Moore takes throws and they'll be hurled into the box.

These are Nige's tactics, don't blame the player for a dead ball situation - the manager has pre-determined what happens for those. You can only blame a player for their natural reaction in a pressured situation - these aren't examples of that.

Cheeky sod!

He did it many times to Beckford, both under Sven and Pearson.

And it didn't work

That was actually what I meant.

'Letting' as in 'not stopping it'

I agree with ya..
