Freeman's Wharfer Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 In many ways it's a sham of a campaign with the fact that Paddy Power are putting the money behind it and have a much more vested interest in it than kicking homophobia out of football, Joey Barton has taken up a position as the main ambassador and that football players will wear them not as a statement of support for the campaign but because they fancy being a bit flash/showy with rainbow laces (you can just picture the players up and down the country getting kitmen to lace up both their blue and red boots with the laces so that they can decide which look better). In other ways it's doing a good job in the sense that people (including us here) are talking about the issue... But 'the issue', I don't think is as big as people make out. Yes there are bound to be some gay players but I don't think it will correlate with the national average of % of gay men. For whatever reason, be it less raw male testosterone fuelled competitiveness or just not feeling fully comfortable in that very male environment when coming to terms with their sexuality, I don't think that there are that many gay men in football. Without wanting to generalise, most of the gay men that I know have no interest in football, certainly not enough to actually have played it any great deal. Obviously there will be a few gay men in the professional game but if there are, say, 1 in 10 gay men in the general population, I think in football it would be a hell of a lot less (e.g. 1 in 50).
funkyrobot Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 I have no problems with homosexuals(the word gay means happy), but to integrate it with sport is ludicrous. My stepson is a homosexual, and I accept it, but to expose to children, as normal behaviour, (and we have them watching football), is a bloody disgrace, and little short of disgusting. If people are homosexual, or lesbian inclined, so be it, but don't promote natures sexually flawed humanoids. You're either a massive homophobe or maybe you are in denial about your true feelings?
Langley Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 My stepson is a homosexual, and gets his niece and nephew to call him Aunty. The eldest is five, I find this disgusting, and have told him so. Even amongst strangers he lets them know his sexuality, and insists that it is the way to be, and attends all the "Gay Pride" marches he can. A real sick excuse for a human being. ....
purpleronnie Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 You're either a massive homophobe or maybe you are in denial about your true feelings? I wouldn't take DT too seriously he seems to hate everything.

'A real sick excuse for a human being' is pretty ironic don't you think? What exactly do you find 'disgusting' about it?
Lambert09 Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 More will be doing it as a fashion statement then to actually support it. It's like those racist bands that were out many years ago, people wore them because footballers did, but would wear one whilst being a racist cuntwaffle

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 It's a great idea! Being gay doesn't make you any lesser a man! And we should welcome any player who is gay to come out and support them fully! It's about time attitudes changed towards this in football! Who are you shouting at?
TheUltimateWinner Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 Knew this would bring out peoples personal views If you are, you are, If you're not, you're not. Why label people, we're just humans.

Strokes Posted 20 September 2013 Posted 20 September 2013 What's the point? If its all ok and natural no need for a fuss, Justin fashnu was a gay look how that ended. Let em be and come out if and when they want too, ashley Cole will tell us when he is ready.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 21 September 2013 Posted 21 September 2013 I love a good old sexy poof, quite a few of "da regulars" on here are poofs. Mack loves Elton John. Literally. I have other examples.

Just not a homophobic one!In extra support of this, could the club not find a couple of fit birds to run on the pitch and lezz off when we score instead of playing fire?

Guest MattP Posted 21 September 2013 Posted 21 September 2013 Weird. Very weird. Hope none of our players take part in this.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 September 2013 Posted 21 September 2013 You've hidden that well. Morning Mark, No I have no problems with them, but I do object to the manner in which a number attempt to promote it as being "normal"
