The Year Of The Fox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Just heading towards the m5 pissing it down with rain. Great win. Hung on again but thought it'd be a close game as did many. Met Basingstokefox before the game. Real nice lad and bloody fair play coming all that way on your tod. Hope the 4 of us made it that bit more enjoyable for you! Safe trip back mate! So glad I've tomorrow off work!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Deserved win. They didn't really trouble us all night. We did start quite slow but we were always in full control of the game. Lovely goal on the break for the first and a nailed on pen for the second. No complaints about theirs either We defended from the front and worked hard all across the pitch as a team. We are very dangerous on the counter. Couldn't have asked for much more this season so far. I couldnt see beyond the halfway line so can't comment on theirs
Monsell1976 Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Good 3 points, professional job, move on to the next one.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 The silence is deafening. Not even one page of comments on a post match thread. Big Nige must be doing something right. Last year there were pages on pages of the tripe. Keep going boys.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Today was another game that summed up some of the best and worst of Lloyd Dyer again but again, he still adds to the team. Happy to see us get another win, which I think we deserved overall. Only 7 points dropped from 10 games, bloody good form that. Lets hope it continues. It was good to meet you and the other 3 lads. Never did see you in the ground in the end but a win makes everyone happy I'm sure. Saw that Barca won, great result for Alex.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Good win sounded like we did our best to throw it away at the end, although this time un like the Blackpool game i thought we would hold on. Nice to win penalties although we have conceded a few now. Good to win, just need to add clean sheets
steveherbe Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Only saw devon fox in airfield tavern, where were the rest of you? There were a bunch by the door, other than that..... Anyway, if Dyer ever learns to kick the ball properly he will score 40 goals a season. Brilliant tonight, his second half run was like messi, if only he had finished it off, goal of the season. Night all.
Vardinhio Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Made the trip from Bristol, happy to see the lads win a decent game of football. We really should have scored more though!
ozleicester Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Another win away, equal top, its a good time to be a Leicester supporter.

Last year there were pages on pages of the tripe. Keep going boys. To be fair mate, the match and post-match threads were a mess and most people who went to the game won't be back yet to give their opinion. The most I could offer tonight having listened to the radio would be "good win lads, on to the next one", and quite frankly no one would be bothered about reading it so I didn't bother posting it!

Not a lot else to add to that really. We had all the play yet managed to make it hard for ourselves again at the end. I dont care whether we've managed to grind out the results so far or not. It will come back to bite us against stronger teams (see blackpool)

MANFACE Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Good 3 points. These are the sort of games we need to win to push for promotion. Nige, staff and players doing a great job. Nuff said.
CKB Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Of course i'm very pleased with the win and our start but i'm not getting carried away...We need to try cut out these individual mistakes that are making us more or less hold on in a game we should be comfortably winning, and we need to start putting more gilt edge chances away!It will bite us on the ass eventually if we keep it up!
midland_red Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 so - on the plus side - can't argue with the result - just the sort of match we would have thrown away last year. MInus side - we need to take more of our chances. Have to worry about one goal victories, firstly luck or bad refereeing might wipe them out, secondly, we need to get that goal average up. But all in all a fantastic start to the season - and it is interesting to see the beginnings of a gap opening up - Snottingham and (especially) Smackpool only drew last night - Smackpool's draw being especially poor as they were at home to Bolton
foxfanazer Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Delighted again. Yes we made it hard for ourselves but we wouldn't be Leicester if we didn't Good to see us being professional against the potential banana skin teams.
marbelladave Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Once again this team just 'gets the job done'. More often than not this season we have picked up the points without actually playing really well, well not for a whole game anyway (maybe Wigan), something that has not been the case since NFP's playoff season the first time around. A win at Doncaster and we can go into the break feeling very positive indeed.
Ric Flair Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 The penalties will eventually stop, no team averages 9 penalties every 11 matches so we need to make sure that when they do, that we still find a way to win matches. Hopefully defensivelly we'll stay more alert as we could be looking at 4 less points in the last week if Barnsley and Yeovil had snatched a point, we'd be livid then. Palace got an obscene amount of peno's for the first 15+ games but then it dried up and they had to adjust, i'm confident we'll do the same.
Bettsj2 Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Someone next to me made the point about the penos last night but looking at it, I think RDL would have scored last night and Vardy would have against Barnsley. I do agree though that the amount of open play chances we miss is ridiculous but it feels a bit different at the minute. When we missed chances at nil nil, it didnt even entery head that it could be 'one of those games' and I think generally people shared that view. All in all there is absolutely nothing i'd complain about this season. We're adaptable, strong, resilient and our squad (seeing as so many were worries about it at the start of the season) looks stronger than any we've had for many years.

Dan Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 Agree entirely with Bettsj2. There's only so much you can put down to 'luck', there's an art to winning penalties. Another solid yet unspectacular win. I think we need to start pushing on for more when we go 2 up though rather than sitting back, because we keep inviting trouble and we keep 'nearly' paying for it. Fantastic away numbers from us too. Not the noisiest (lack of roof didn't help) but I think even 'MASSIVE' Wednesday would struggle for that many midweek at somewhere that far away.
Carl the Llama Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 "Winning" penalties is not an art. If the only reason you're running into the box is to try and trip over a defender I have no respect for that. If you're legitimately trying to create an opportunity and actually get hauled down by a challenge that you can't ride, fair play. But none of this "winning" penalties nonsense. I hate when players take a cheap tumble and if footage shows that that's what led to one of our pens, I'm equally enraged.
Dan Posted 2 October 2013 Posted 2 October 2013 No, as that's diving, if you're running at players with pace and clever movement, then you're bound to draw more fouls. I'm not at all encouraging diving (simulation is just as bad) but I honestly do think we're making more intelligent runs that are leading to these penalties, rather than flinging themselves to the floor at every opportunity. Definitely an art to it, if you don't win a penalty then there's a good chance of being in a more advanced position in the box.
Captain... All in all there is absolutely nothing i'd complain about this season. We're adaptable, strong, resilient and our squad (seeing as so many were worries about it at the start of the season) looks stronger than any we've had for many years. Lets just hope he starts using the squad, unchanged side again, lets not burn out our players, rest rotate and pick the players for the match, not just the best 11, if we line up 442 with the same team we will get found out, and any injuries will mean replacements coming in cold, give Hammond/Was/James/Schlupp/GTF more game time we are going to need all of them this season. As for the "art" of winning penalties, I think he means there is a style of play that is more conducive to winning penalties, getting out wide and firing crosses in rarely results in pens as it is often 50/50 challenges, running at pace at the defenders in the box will create more penalties and chances and goals.
