What jobs did/do your parents have?

Just wondering what folks parents did and whether their job influenced your job.

My late father was originally a farmhand labourer at Ingarsby Hall when he first came to Britain; then he worked for 30 years as a toolmaker at Wadkins.

My Mum was a shopgirl then moved to Leicester and worked as a knitwear mender for Corah's.

Neither of my parents had any medical background, the only thing that I would say influenced me job wise is their work ethic.

Mum works as a teaching assistant. Dad works as traveling sales/account manager. Absolutely no influence on my career path lol

My Dad was a watch repairer for Sekonda. He met my mum there, she used to fit straps to new watches. She became a shop worker at Bhs on Saturdays when me and my sister were born and then when we'd gone school she also got a job on the reception at Coombs bakery in the week. My dad's now retired, and mum still works in reception/admin type jobs.

My sister is a French teacher and I work in payroll and accounts. Neither of us have followed them really, although I suspect my dad's old job is pretty much obsolete now.

Dad a director for BAE ten years ago but now retired.

She will probably know my Dad.  He was in the Corah's dye house for over 30 years.  His Dad (& my Grandad) worked in the knit shop for over 30 years too.  I was always amazed as a kid that my Grandad has perfect fingernails.  Yellow fingers from smoking & a hardcore alcoholic, but he used to get manicures so that he didn't snag the fabrics

2 gold watches in the family.

I used to go regularly into the dye house & Corah's shop for my pants.  I never had any inclination to follow in the footseps of my Dad & Grandad.

Both my parents were primary school teachers, their influence on my career was that there was no way I was ever going to be a primary school teacher.

Dad was a hosiery mechanic and mum was an overlocker before us kids were born and then she used to sew on the clasps for braces on an industrial sewing machine we had at home. I can remember as a kid helping to pull on the plastic slides that hold the pair of braces together.

Nowadays we have Romanians.

I wanted to be a civil engineer after going to Old Trafford in the 90s but I have no technical / mathematical knowledge or indeed any spacial awareness.
