KFS Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 It's hardly gonna work in Wes' favour in contract talks is it though? Stating you only get 100% commitment when your contract is secure and antagonising the fan base of the club he plays for. The club are in a lose-lose situation here, realistically not all of the players out of contract are going to be offered new deals and if they start handing out certain players contracts and not to others then the situation develops where people stop trying, look to get transferred in January and generally shit hits the fan. We don't have a big enough squad to deal with 3+ first teamers getting the arse at not being given a new contract. We don't have the money either
Bert Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I think Saturday we need a few "sign him up" chants. Say we don't go up and Wes, Nuge etc leaves? Who are we gonna get that's better or as good to replace them all? Susan Whelan is adamant we are going to meet FFP so why not offer the contracts? Not saying this is the right way to look at things at all - but if the club aren't bothered.... Why should you be?
yorkie1999 Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Hands up who would take a pay cut in their current job? I'm guessing you wouldn't and nor should you So if you were on 20 grand a week, and you were told your pay is going to be 15 grand, you'd say get lost and then accept 10 grand at another club!

Not saying this is the right way to look at things at all - but if the club aren't bothered.... Why should you be? Maybe her confidence in meeting FFP is tied in with confidence of lowering a few deals. I'd love to know what Morgan's on. I can't imagine it being peanuts but I'd be surprised if he was one of our top players and there are certainly others I'd cut the wages of (if possible) first.
Happy Fox Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Look at this way in this division we are confined to FFP I am sure the owners have money to spend they aren't skint!, we will only be in a position to offer new contracts spend money when we are promoted. The goal at everyone at the club should be focused on getting Leicester City promotion, then contracts can be negotiated etc.
Mark_w Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 As long as we give Pearson a new contract I'll be happy, would trust him more than anyone else if the financial situation means we have to rebuild. But frankly it's a joke that we've got ourselves into this mess, either the people in charge of these things are stupid for letting it get to this stage, or we're in an appalling position financially. Doesn't bode well either way.

Not saying this is the right way to look at things at all - but if the club aren't bothered.... Why should you be? Who knows. Football is a funny old game. Player power rules these days. I think the club are bothered but the problem is that before FFP players expected that at the end of every contract 1 of 2 things would happen. 1) Sign a new contract at their current club for more money. 2) Sign a contract somewhere else for more money. Now it seems that every club has **** all cash to spend outside of the Premiership and players are being faced with the very real possibility of actually having to sign a new contract for less money and they are thinking hang on this isn't fair. Wes is one of the few (except Kasper) who has proved that he is top level Championship performer week in and week out and he could potentially sign for a relegated team or indeed move to a Premiership club on same money or more. But no ****er in the Championship including us can match what he is on now. So it's all well and good his Mrs spouting off about loyalty, respect and earning the right for more money. But if there is 1) no money to give and 2) you can't by the rules of the game give more money. What the **** does she want?

It's clear to me that some players aren't happy with the current situation. I can understand why uncertainty is bad for players, but do they not think that what they do on the pitch will allow them to maintain their wage? If Morgan is on £12k a week for example and he performs at the level he has been (bar Saturday), he should have nothing to worry about.
kylestyle06 Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 If I got told that my wages would have to be dropped because of FFP , but if we get to the premier league I'd reap the rewards I would play out of my skin week in week out to get there.. especially with the good position we are in at the moment . I wouldn't moan about something that is out of the clubs hands !
yorkie1999 Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Sheneen fisher â€@Shubbzy8318m Seriously some ppl are deluded! Who in their right mind would take a big pay cut In their current job for the love of it!!! Sheneen fisher â€@Shubbzy8317m And who can honestly say they'd be fine knowing their future wasn't secure! Everyone has bills to pay and families to feed! Sheneen fisher â€@Shubbzy8314m Not matter how much you earn, you live to your means! So noones exactly got money to burn! Well maybe some ridiculously rich ppl could?!? She should have married liam ridgewell then.
Dan Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 If certain players haven't budgeted for a potential wage cut, especially players like Nugent & Konchesky who are ageing and are going to be depreciating - then tough shit. It's not like FFP has been a secret. Morgan I feel for more than the others, because I imagine he's on less and he earns his money on the pitch - but having your wife badmouth the club/fans on Twitter about it is dodgy especially when it's in the balance. I'd say this outburst has took him further away from a new deal rather than closer to one. This was coming all along I'm afraid.
Captain... Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Typical Leicester way. Doing so well this season, look good shouts for promotion and this shoots up mid season. This is clearly having an affect on the team and will continue to do so until something is sorted out. But it doesn't look like anything will be sorted out... SODS LAW It was rumoured that it was a pay despute between Sven signings and NP signings that was partly responsible for the disaster after we got to 2nd in the league. Would suck if it happened again. They should, and I said it before, offer all the players coming to an end of their contract that they want to keep a 6 month extension on current terms with a guarantee of entering negotiations over the summer depending on where we end up. Players have job security, which is becoming more of an issue when you see players like Hammond and GTF out of contract and having no club at the start of the season. It would mean we wouldn't lose players for nothing in the Summer, and we can just focus on the football.

Dan Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Should we not get promoted I can't imagine anyone being offered 12k a week. Same and the players can't really have too much complaint - a lot of them blew it last year. You can't keep not achieving and maintain a wage that you're not deserving of. Before someone mentions Pearson it's a completely different situation when it's the manager.

She's looking out for her family, obviously the situation is getting to her I respect her for looking out for her family but to slag off her husband's 'employer' (which they in my opinion need to realise how bloody lucky they are to have) publicly is a dodgy ground.
GingerrrFox Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Said it in the conversation about Pearson (who I think is essential to sign a new deal) but if we fail to get promotion this season then it's time to move on from Kasper, Morgan, Konchesky, Dyer, Nugent. Some of them are 30+ and some are looking at 30 pretty soon and if they don't get us to the premiership this season then they have to make way for the youth anyway. Sport is a revolving door and no player can fight the ticking of time. We have some very promising talent and as Sir Alex Ferguson used to say the youth need to be given the opportunity to prove themselves. The likes of Moore, Schlupp, Hopper, Dawson, Cain, Panayiotou, Sesay, Dodoo and Stankevicius. Plus we could sign new players on smaller contracts. It's not the end of the world.

Partly agree - but you need some experience from somewhere in a team.

Dan Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Too many gambles would backfire but I'd be more than happy to see us blooding a lot of youngsters. Wouldn't want to move on from them all though.
