Guest Col city fan Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I was talking to my Mrs about this and she flipped a switch. "Can't believe the cheek of the stupid bitch" was how she put it. She went on a massive rant about how footballer's girlfriends and wives don't have to worry about working whilst they have children and have no real understanding of the real world. They put on this massive bullshit that they are just normal people and they have real world problems and understand where we come from but how can they? Have they tried raising their family on £60,000 a year and everything that entails? Have they ****. Footballers outside of the Premiership have got a real wake up call coming with FFP, in that average shit aren't going to be paid big money anymore and I"m perfectly ok with that. 60k a year? Are you being serious?
GingerrrFox Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 60k a year? Are you being serious? 60k was a high end figure and I didn't even think about tax, but I was ball parking if both partners work. It's still roughly a month of some of our players wages after tax.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 No promotion this season, and the rats will leave the sinking ship. The place will be very quiet, should this be the case.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 What I don't want to see happen is us getting stuck with a bunch if players that ethier are not wanted by the manager or unsuited to the leauge they are in. Fristly the owners need to decide who the manager will be. Secondly only players who would have a resale value should be considered for longer contracts. Those that want to talk to over clubs then fine, go on loan to them, it's a money grabbing attitude that had got us in this mess and the sooner it's delt with the better. Players are also on bonuses so what's the problem, if they want some cash win the leauge, if you want a good contract play for the piper. They may get an exstension or a new deal, they may get released if we go up, but as a free agent you will get a offer to your market vaule. Act like a spoilt brat and who knows what offers will come in? Is this the issue with some of the players ? They haven't got the offers, or not at the level they want. As for players wife's using social media to whine about how hard done by they are, I for one am not really interested. If players over 30 haven't sorted out there lives who's fault is that ? They earn excessive amounts for a god given gift, if they live beyond there means or have over infalted ideas that they can not support with the rewards from their playing days then maybe they should have used their money gaining other skills instead of wasting money defending stupid behavior.
Guest MattP Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 The last round of contracts for these players was financed by debt, non-existent money on the basis that they would do the job and that could be paid back on promotion. That mode of funding is dead and buried under FFP. It is actually working much better than I ever thought it would because generally the league clubs are toe-ing the line. Pretty much spot on. Konchesky has some front asking for a new deal to be honest, I imagine he's on a right whack and whilst I rate him as a player I'm certain Nigel could get someone in on better value for money than him.
kingfox Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Couldn't give a shit about Konchesky really. We need a new left-back.
Guest MattP Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Biggest problem we are going to face with this is that if you offer a contract to one player and not another you are going to cause even more problems in the dressing room. What message does it send to Nugent and Konchesky if they sit down with Morgan and tell them to wait? Not a position I'd want to be in and this is going to take a lot of man management skills.
ibbosuk Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 She's just got her husbands best interests at heart. Can't fault her for that can you? You'd be pretty annoyed if your partner was getting fecked about at work wouldn't you? Of course this is only me going from she has said but it seems pretty clear why she's pissed off. Fvck back to Worksop...u gaye fvcker !!!
Guest MattP Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Watching players wives spouting shit on Twitter is absolutely sickening btw. Vast portion of this lot are probably golddigging thickos with no quaifications to get by in the World so latch onto a man to give them the lifestyle they crave. You see how much these girls love their husbands when you see how many of them stick by when they became bankrupt ten years after retirement.
lgfualol Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 **** all the moany wives. I understand where the players are coming from and it is worrying that it could affect their form, but on the other hand, **** em
Neil_LCFC Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Isn't Nugent still getting paid a decent wedge a month by Pompey ? to go along with his massive wage we pay him. Don't think he is particularly worried where his next meal is coming from ! just found this again over 3500 quid a month for over 3 years ! crazy http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2415009/Portsmouth-owe-6-72million-players-including-David-James-Tal-Ben-Haim.html
justfoxes Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Everyones got bills to pay. Yes its just my 20k a year just about meets my bills. if you struggle to pay the bills on that a week then you need a reality check love. Well said and What's a Payrise ? Not had one for a couple of years !! Plus what offended me was the way she said stop chirping and start supporting !! News flash love we have and will support our club through thick and thin even when your man has left us and gone elsewhere !! Players and managers come and go but it's us loyal supporters who will stay long after you've gone so you see we do and loyally support OUR club !!
ian_marshall Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I understand the frustration that the player's and their partner's are faced with given this particular situation, however if you examine the facts, none of the players as yet have done enough over the duration of their contracts or indeed this season alone to warrant being offered a new contract. I don't buy into the fact that their partners have a right to air their views within the public domain whether they have their partners best interests at heart or not. There are sometimes things that I discuss with my partner about my work situation asking her advice, but I make it very clear that such conversations are private and confidential as I know if such concerns got back to my employer it wouldn't be well received. Furthermore, if I had the financial resource to pay someone to offer me professional advice and help me negotiate my contract, firstly I wouldn't feel the need to worry my other half over such matters, and secondly I'd be reminding my representative why I pay them in the first place. I agree with others that a resolution to this particular problem is to offer extended contracts on lower basic salaries with performance related pay bringing them on parity with their existing terms. For me the performance related pay would be paid out at the end of each month dependent on league position. For example, basic salary of £40k per month, + £10k for finishing month in top 6, £20k for finishing month in top 2, £40k for finishing month in 1st. This way would mean that players have an incentive to maintain performance levels in order to achieve a certain level of income. It would also give the club an indication of certain individuals commitment to the cause. If those players whose contracts are due to expire reject the offer and whine about the terms it clearly shows that they do not believe in their own ability to meet the objectives set.
Monsell1976 Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Couldn't give a shit about Konchesky really. We need a new left-back. With you in this, if he can't wait until the summer, so we know where we are, and how much we can afford, then he can **** off in January. He's ok but nothing special, and saving his wages we could probably get somebody, younger, cheaper and as good. And I'm sure if promotion is achieved the reward will be a new, probably improved( clauses improved whilst in prem) contracts.
Mack Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 I think some posters on this thread need to differentiate between their opinions on how much Footballers get paid and their support for our team. The facts are the facts.... Players are all powerful in today's game. And a good few of our key players are being unsettled by their contract situation, which is going to affect the way they perform, and our results as a side. We have to get these contracts sorted out now to avoid it having a negative effect on our season.
Dickov22 Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 Seeing as we desperately tried to offload Konch and his massive wages to Brighton earlier on in the season, I'd say its pretty unlikely he's going to be offered a new deal.
hackneyfox Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 Good idea don't do fvck all let other clubs make a move and sort there future out. Then where ever we are next season we are going to need a whole squad. As we won't have money to spend whoever the manager is will have loans and free's thats all. The longer it goes on every players will think we don't want them and there minds will not be on winning games for us. Oh and after the players have gone and NP walks what sort of manager do you think we will get with FVCK all to spend. What a fool proof plan you put together. Calm down We are talking about 4 of the current first team not a whole squad. Of those 4 Konchesky almost certainly won't get a new contract and Schmeichel will almost ceratinly leave. As for Morgan and Nugent unless they improve their current game then they are replacable, I probably wouldn't want either of them in the Premier should we get promoted. Pearson probably wouldn't walk should we get promoted, If we don't he can go. Why would we have **** all to spend if we just managed to get rid of all the top earners?

Konchesky is 32 and nearing the end of his career Nugent hasn't performed for some time and wasn't a success last time he was in the Premier. Morgan has never played in the Premier. The club obviously don't know which division we are going to be in next season. Taking all of those points into consideration what kind of offer would you make to each player? I'm not having a dig, I seriously want to know how people think the club should deal with it.
MrSpaM Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 I can sympathise with Wes not wanting to take a pay cut to a certain degree, but his Mrs has stepped the line a little imo. If taking a wage cut from 15+k a week means you can't put food on the table any more, then you need to seek financial advice and be a bit more careful with what you are spending your money on. He earns more in a fortnight than I earn in an entire year and it's not like I'm living in a cardboard box begging for change in the street. If he want's to move on because someone is offering him what he's on here then fair play to him, I wont hold it against him, but acting like your children will starve if you take a pay cut from a wage like that is absolutely ridiculous.

Think she is probably just annoyed at the stick her loved one is getting to be fair.. All she has touched on is a lifestyle change. Not that they can't manage the money and she is right in that respect- we all live to our means.
Dan Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 A lifestyle change? So instead of driving a Ferrari it's now a new Audi? The more I've thought about this the more I've been annoyed. She can pipe down immediately.
Dickov22 Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 I'd hope and imagine Wes is pretty pissed off with his WAG's tweets. Very unprofessional and an issue that shouldn't be aired in public.
Devonfox1884 Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 She can shut the fvuk up, even if wes' wages went down to 8k a week, he'd earn more in a month than 90% of us do in a year, if she can't manage her finances well with over 30k a month, she needs a lot of help. I honestly can't believe this, it's absolutely disgraceful.
Neil_LCFC Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 Perhaps we can have a whip around if the players have to sign reduced contracts as we wouldn't want them going hungry !

Regardless of what money you're on, a pay cut is never going to be received well as you do build your life around what you're earning - but she needs to appreciate how she's in an almost elite group of people and how she still will be if he's given a pay cut. It sounds like spoilt brat living in a fantasy world (which is largely is) to me.
