Solihullfox Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I know a bit about football. And I also know that GTF wont score enough goals for the club, he's well overweight and miles past his best days. Im also amazed that City fans can be so easily pleased. We have had some wonderful strikers at our club. GTF is at best, average and I'm surprised he's near a side going for promotion. GTF being at the club and on the bench is a reflection of where the club is in terms of available spend. He may be average and may not be up to the standard of some of the strikers who have played for the club over it's history (and I have seen many in the 45 years I have been watching our team) but my reply was I response to some ridiculous comments about a player who showed a fair degree of skill, composure and understanding when asked to come on to the field as a substitute today and much like he has done in the other short appearances he has made for the club so far, not because I was hailing the messiah that will lead us to the promised land I'm personally not that easily pleased but we are where we are with the strikers either currently at the club or at this moment available to the manager. GTF may not score a great number of goals but if he can help the players around him by using his experience and footballing brain then I for one will not be suggesting that he is too fat etc etc.
Solihullfox Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Could say the same thing about all our strikers. Vardy - He's average.....nice work rate, closes down defenders ok. Terrible touch, and lacks a lot of quality. Nugent - He's average, nice work rate, closed down defenders ok. Only takes 1 chance in 10, famous for missing a lot of chances. We're Leicester City. We're aiming for promotion. We can do better than Vardy and Nugent. I absolutely believe this. Yep. we need a striker and a winger in jan. We can cope without 1 of dyer, knocky and de laet. But sheffield wednesday showed us that when we are missing 2 (when knocky went off) we lack a lot of our attacking threat. We should go into the jan window with intent, and sign a big named forward like cardiff did with Campbell. With the amount of chances we create, we should have at least one 20 goal a season striker every year. Frankly, Nuge and vardy are not up to the job, neither of em. Yep
theessexfox Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Why can't people see that we clearly haven't brought GTF in to be our 20 goal a season man, and to push Nuge, Wood and Vardy for places! He offers something completely different.
Kitchandro Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Harsh criticism of him considering we've barely seen him. It's not his fault the arseholes that started the game couldn't finish Burnley off when we were 1-0 up. I do think we need to be bringing on better than him though. He's ageing and can't really run, and even in his younger days he was never a goalscorer. We need a striker who can actually change the game and find the net if given a sniff.
Trumpet Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Very true he is no better than Waghorn if we want someone to hold the ball up. We need a forward to score goals he doesn't! Did I really just read this?
Guest Col city fan Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Did I really just read this? Yep, and I agree completely. Waghorn is very expensive and has unfortunately not developed into the player most of us thought he would. Thats why hes gonna go and its probably the right decision. But he offers more of a threat than GTF. I dont get the GTF love-in.... Then again, a lot of posts are confusing me at present.

foxfanazer Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Good for certain scenarios but he's not enough of an impact player for my liking. Not bad, nothing special
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 ridiculous and uninformed comments on here, he's a man who can hold up play and help the midfielders join attacks, thus letting us keep possession furtherup the pitch which is where we want to be. Nuge is useless for this and Vardy can only do it to a degree. He's useful for breaking down stubborn teams and also for allieviating the pressure off our defence when we're under the kosh. I'd like to see him get into shape and start for us
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Just wondering what was the point in signing, and moreso playing him. There are better players in local football who'd play for practically nothing compared to him. Looks overweight, legs aint in sync with his brain, can't jump etc.... As soon as he was bought on today, the chances of winning the game passed by. Nah that was when Schlupp came on upfront... I don't mind GTF, was good against Brighton

When Was and Him came on, it really steadied the boat and we started going forward again. Good substitution in my book.
Dan Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 I think it's no co-incidence that we improved as soon as he came in. Burnley were forcing us into the hoof and he was bringing it down time and time again. He's got a role to play.
Father Ted Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 He holds the ball up well, very efficient with it, allows the transition from midfield to attack and has the touch of a sex god. He will be a useful player to have around, GARY!
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Nugent's positioning is quite poor and he doesn't usually find space between the defenders whereas GTF does and links up well. I don't know how you've managed to conclude this based on GTF appearing for a few minutes at the end of a handful of games. I like GTF and think he has something to offer us, but it doesn't follow that he's necessarily a better option than Nugent. He has no pace and has no hope of chasing down a defender or closing the keeper down. He can hold the ball up well and it would be actually interesting to see Nugent playing off him. Think calling Nuge "thoughtless" is a bit harsh.
Charnwood Norris Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 Is he only 32? I was under the impression he was like 36/37 and old looking for 37. 89kg is 10kg too fat though for a 5ft11-6ft guy.

Think calling Nuge "thoughtless" is a bit harsh. It probably was a bit harsh calling Nuge thoughtless, but it was quite apparent (to me) that GTF finds space better than Nuge because he tends to just loiter rather than seek the ball.
Saxondale Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 He didn't have a chance yesterday. The way Burnley were playing they had about four men chasing the ball at all times. No players had any space or time on the ball. I actually think he held the ball up fairly well considering. He's not going to be our next Ian Marshall but he can still be useful.
Johnny Cash Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 If only Vardy had a first touch that was half as good as GTF's.
Dan Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 You do have to laugh at the amount of fans who write off pretty much any striker who isn't scoring a silly amount.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 My mate who's an Arsenal fan said he glanced over at our game, and wondered who the fat bloke who looks like he's been down the pub was...
Out Foxed Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 his touch (bar one) was absolute class yesterday. impressive stuff.
dayday Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 I doubt he will ever get a full game as his weight is a issue, but what a player to bring on if we are trying to close a game out,
Callabinho Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 He's a naturally gifted player technique wise! Sometimes players like Gary don't need to be fit, but if he was!!!
Number 6 Posted 15 December 2013 Posted 15 December 2013 If only his body was up to the same speed as his brain.
