It LOOKS like Jeff has all the physical attributes of a great young talent, without the footballing brain to match.

I hope im wrong but he doesn't seem to read his team-mates very well.

Anyway, im gonna wait and see with the lad.

 

Brought this up the other day but I think there's a big case against his lack of footballing intelligence. He can play 3 very different positions pretty well and he's still only 20 (for another 2 days  :xmastongue: ). It takes a very good mental side of the game to switch from Left Back to Striker in the space of a few days. I agree that his decisions today were very poor but I think that's more down to a lack of confidence rather than a bad understanding. I still think that he won't come close to fulfilling his potential but the next few months could really make or break him.

haha i know what your saying.. but iv'e watched him closely in the matches that he has come on and he doesn't cut it i'm afraid with the ambitions we have as a club. Good luck to the lad though i'm sure he will make a great career elsewhere

Never gives me the impression he's that interested, does nothing to excite me, yes he may turn in to a fantastic player in time but for now would let him at least go out on loan in January. Would have Waggy on the bench ahead of Schlupp.

I cant work out if he's just not good enough or because he has been played in a few different positions hasn't helped his game. Learning the role of a LB and ST are completely different so to play in one position one week and another the week after isn't going to help his progression.

 

He has some great attributes with his pace, strength and athleticism but does not use them to his advantage often enough. I don't believe ST is his best position, I think he's better out wide as a LW running at defenders and causing them problems. He should be moulded into a similar type of player to Dyer.

 

Definitely don't think we should be looking to sell him though. Pearson and his management team need to figure out his best position and mould him rather than waste him as a stop gap versatile player.

Looks like he's massively lacking in confidence. We need to determine his best position which IMO is left wing, and send him out on loan for a run of games. I like the lad, he cares about the club and some of the criticisms are harsh

He's been fine at left back when he's played there this season and did ok against Man City up front. Calls to 'get rid' are a bit much, we have a big squad and will need everyone of them until the end of the season, especially someone so versatile.

Needs a loan spell at Doncaster or Barnsley or Sheff Weds where he can play regularly. If he can score with one of these clubs he could have a future with us, otherwise he'll be a League 1 player for the rest of his career. At present, not good enough.

I think he's got a lot of potential, but he was awful today.

 

It is not difficult to stay onside and the two passes he ****ed up for Dyer were as simple as they come.

What a shockingly sh*t embarrassing thread.

 

Clearly the club management are still trying to determine if they can turn him into a roving left back much like Ashley Cole, Gareth Bale, etc. He possibly won't ever reach their heights but it's worth finding out how far he can go at the club that's nurtured him. Keeping him at City gives the youth team encouragement they can break through and it's good for our fans to maintain *some* community connection with the club that doesn't just involve ticket and beer transactions on the weekend.

GTF on the other hand actually applied himself today and was a very positive substitution, Schlupp may as well not have been on the pitch.

It's a shame, but from what I've seen this is spot on for me. I find that he struggles positionally, whether up front or left back, and then can often be out of the game. When he does get the ball his head is often down which affects his passing and decision making.

 

He's also not technically the best - no right foot and poor control under pressure.

 

To be fair, I've ripped him apart here and we'd all love to see him come good, but unfortunately I think his flaws are not compensated by his speed and strength.

Bullshit!! I was calling for him to come on for Nugent at the end. Btf he was poor today buts his first one of the season. He offers us something different and often makes an impact when he comes on.

I stand by my point that he isn't good enough for an 18 man team for a top Championship side, let alone the starting 11.

Every time I've seen him come on as a substitute this season he has been poor, my comments weren't based off today alone. He has had the occasional good game, but then so did many of our previous flops like Dany N'Guessan or Elvis Hammond.

 

If this was his first senior season I'd give him more time, but for me he hasn't been improving at all in his 3 seasons on the fringes. I'd sooner see Hopper or the lad who scored at Leeds (Panatsomething) get his chance now.

He didn't have a good game against QPR and his opportunities have been limited because he is, rightly IMO, down the pecking order when it comes to strikers.  Can he improve - I think so and I'm disappointed that he has not been able to make a greater impact since his debut.  There are a number of posters who don't want him in the club.

 

Last season I was reading similar posts about Jamie Vardy, many of which professed that the Championship was a leap too big a leap for him, that he would never make it at this level, best to sell him to a League 1 or 2 side.  It's been a lot quieter this season.

 

We don't know how far Schlupp can go in football but NP has retained faith in him.  I wouldn't like to see him go to another Championship club permanently - how many of us would like to see a motivated Schlupp with 20 plus starts behind him charging at our defence?  I think he can go further given the right management and opportunities.

I agree. He was woeful yesterday but he's definitely lacking in confidence. It can't be easy only getting the odd minutes here and there. Couple that with the fact he's often asked to play left wing, left back, up front. Anyone who's played football at any level knows that you need a run of games to get in your flow as a player. I'm not suggesting he deserves a run of games because Koncheskey has been good and he's probably fourth choice striker. However, I think a thread demanding he leaves the club is very harsh. Lets hope he doesn't look on this website. He's human after all.
