billyn88 Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I'm sorry but what was Neil Harris on watching that game? I thought Millwall were pants, offered little going forwards and brittle in defence.
cityfanlee23 Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Vs Top Half teams - we are 2nd Dierby Vs Top Half teams - 8th. http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2013-2014/versus-top-half/full I know but you're missing my point... Is that stat based on before mcclaren came in?? Derby are a completely different team to the derby we have seen for most of the season. I'm not defending them saying they are the best.. I'm just saying it's completely contradicting ourselves if we say after 7 am straight wins and 1 loss, and unbeaten in 10 before that.. That derby are shit? Or even implying it... When was the last time we racked up 7 straight wins?, certainly wasn't this season... Writing off derby after a loss against a team with a new manager is madness... Just look at derby and Leeds since new manager? Wigan seem to have improved to say the least...
KFS Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Derby always have good runs but it never comes good. This year they're having it over the christmas period as opposed to their traditional early doors sprint. They'll be tested against the better sides in the next month and it'll be really telling for them.
Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Derby are the form team based on the last 10, but we are 2nd to them, and we are the form team based on the last five games... Arguably in our last 10 games we have played some of the toughest sides in the league, derby have been playing mostly bottom half teams.
Dan Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I do think Friday we'll really see what they're made of. I wouldn't be shocked if they won but at the same time I still think there's no reason we can't turn them over pretty comfortably.

The KP is becoming something of a fortress lately

And when you say 'unbeaten in 10 before that' you're not referring to Derby, are you? They lost five out of their previous ten. Or are you including their seven wins in that ten match run? Because that would be wrong too. Lots of sides will go on runs. Time will tell whether our excellent first half of the season is an unusually prolonged burst of good form (as some feel is the case with Burnley), or real class, just as time will tell whether Derby's somewhat less sustained run, like Blackpool's earlier in the season, turns into something longer term.
Captain... Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I'm reserving any judgement on Derby until next Friday, I've not seen them play, but their results have been impressive, there are no easy games in the championship[/cliche] so to win 7 on the spin is impressive regardless of the quality of the opposition. As we learnt last season, winning runs don't count for much if you then go on a long losing run, so lets extend it to 2 defeats on the trot 3 without victory, lets remember they are not a team used to being at the top and being shot at, they will know that the match will be a big test of their promotion credentials so hopefully the pressure will get to them. Finally what chance of Will Hughes still being there come the end of January?

Are you quoting derbys results blindly????In the last 10 they have won 8 drawn 1 lost 1 .... Source: their website results page.... Maybe if you have a look you might learn a thing or two. Admittedly they were only unbeaten for 9 games previous to their loss... But they have certainly not lost 5 of their last 10.... I'm not sure if you're confused by what I'm trying to point out... Mcclaren has taken over derby county. Since his arrival they have massed a 9 game unbeaten run before losing. Including 7 straight wins. And Leicester fans have written them off...
Bert Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Because the manner in which we were scraping results suggested in the months leading to those 2 losses were that if the luck run out we would lose ... Which it did... Thankfully we got back on track but to most it was obvious we were playing average... The famous quotes were "if we are winning playing shit football and grinding out results , when we hit form we will be amazing" At the time we didn't do that , thankfully we have hit a roll now Which is a piss in the ocean away from derbys 7 STRAIGHT WINS. Well we're over halfway there with 4 straight wins. Look at the form book over the last 5 games (which is what the bookies do) I think you'll find we're In much better form than they are.

Not denying it mate, just think it's rediculous how we have written derby off after 1 loss to a team who are improving under new management , just because we beat that team when they were at the start of poor form! Yet at a time where we could barely scrape 2 wins together we were optimistic about promotion? Just find it mad that that's how our fans think? We are over half way to that form, but we are up against the team I am debating about! Anything can happen but people implying derby are in trouble or are shit and have "only played the bottom teams" In their best form... They have certainly been more convincing beating those team than we have been in the past.... It will be a good game but I expect us to win.... This is truly a game where we can win 1-0 or 5-0, lose 1-0 or 5-0 or even draw... Conceding 3 to Bolton doesn't fill me with confidence with derby seemingly on generally good form.

deanolegend1989 Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 A draw vs Derby even at home would be a fantastic result..Would keep 7 point distance between us and them and even though Burnley and QPR could get closer, it would be a hard game ticked off and our unbeaten run continuing. Of course a win would be brilliant and would be a 10 point gap away from 4th! If we did that though it would start to be too good to be true, so im fully expecting a loss and hope to god for at least a draw. Lets see. exciting times.
foxfanazer Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 All this stuff about form is rubbish. Nobody is denying Derby have done well but doesn't mean we should fear them. We are the team to beat and if we can cope with thw pressure that brings then we will be fine. Our form over the last 24 games is what counts and if we continue in the same manner we will be promoted. A lot of football still to be played though

Finally what chance of Will Hughes still being there come the end of January? Liverpool linked with him apparently. Am I the only one who doesn't think he's better than Bryson? Think he's one of the most under-rated players in the division.
Kitchandro Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The usual lack of appreciation of how good our rivals are playing.. One of my workmates is a Derby fan and commutes from Derby every day. He says that Will Hughes is the best young player hes seen at Derby in years. And Craig Bryson has got what? 8 goals and 9 assists to his name already this season? Thats not bad is it? Dont worry lads and lasses..... it is ok to say that another team is actually doing pretty well too..It dont make you any less a 'real fan' I think Hughes is a good player but let's not suggest their midfield is better than ours, Col. It's the same midfield which has struggled in recent years, in fact it's the same one which has struggled up until McClaren came and they've had this honeymoon period. Our midfield has dominated most games since the start of the season - not to mention last season. We are at least a year more developed than the Derby midfield and we're 7 points clear of them FFS. Nobody is denying they've had a great run but as of now a great run is all it is. You don't go from zeros to heroes that quickly. Most people are underestimating our midfield, not Derby's.
Kitchandro Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I love this, If derby had won again or even drew, we'd be hearing the same thing we've heard for a month "derby look good" "the look the real deal" "Mclaren has then playing excellent" They lose 1 game in about 8 and all of a sudden they are overrated and shit and it was always going to happen... Their form is better than ours... They beat the Doncaster we lost against... Let's not start tempting fate just because we are top.. Long way to go but we know how easily we could get dicked by derby... This is football ... I just wonder if we were on a run of 7 straight wins, then lost that we would get written off... Or is it because it's derby? People love to hate derby and it's embarrassing.... They are a good side with confidence and I for one can't wait to play, because if we win I guarantee we'd have earnt it. Erm, they just lost to Wigan who we beat.

If you're top of the league a draw is never a fantastic result. We need to keep winning and hope we widen the gap. Burnley and QPR getting closer would mean it's a poor result. Jeez it's Derby, not Man City.
Finnaldo Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The only really convincing team Derby have played is Wigan, who they lost against. I reckon if the players go out with a level head and dominate play early like we have recently then we could turn them over with relative ease. I reckon we'll get a couple in the first half, then early in the second and then there'll pull one back late one. 3-1 finish.
Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Just looked at the last 10 fixtures for Derby and not one side they have played is currently in the top 10, in contrast we have played 6 sides currently in the top 10, 4 in the top six. Also being in better form in the last 5, we are the form team.

Although hopefully after yesterday, we have turned over a new leaf.

Although hopefully after yesterday, we have turned over a new leaf. Exactly what I was about to say. We tend to drop points in games we shouldn't (on paper). If we approach this game right we should win, but they'll be right up for it and we'll have to give a completely professional showing.
The Blur Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Did anyone think that there was a foul by Leicester in the build up to the first goal?
