cityfanlee23 Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Coaching-role-Spaniard/story-20395430-detail/story.html Former Derby and Southampton midfielder Inigo Idiakez has joined Leicester City as the under-16s youth development coach. The Spaniard, renowned for his deadly set-pieces, began his career at La Liga side Real Sociedad, where he spent more than 10 years before having spells at Oviedo and Rayo Vallecano. In the summer of 2004, Idiakez was brought to England on a free transfer by then Derby boss George Burley. He flourished at Pride Park, being named Derby's player of the season in his first year at the club. In 2006, Idiakez followed manager Burley to Southampton in a £275,000 move to St Mary's, where he made 32 appearances, scoring two goals. He also spent time at QPR on a month's loan, scoring only one goal, which came against City at the King Power Stadium. Following retirement, Idiakez completed his coaching qualifications and was awarded his UEFA Pro licence in 2011. At that time, he was the assistant manager to Burley at Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol. Fox92 Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Was a good, technically gifted player. Recall him scoring against us.

MikeyT Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 How late are the mercury on this?! In all fairness, I have heard nothing about this till this thread.
davieG Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Leicester City have been pulled into the Spanish reports surrounding who will fill the vacant managerial seat at Real Sociedad. David Moyes has been repeatedly linked by both the British and Spanish media who have said that several meetings have taken place. The first of those was last week at a location in London and that's carried on into this week with Spanish newspaper AS saying that Moyes' agents have been speaking to Real Sociedad at a hotel in Madrid. There's an economical hold up, as there usually is. Moyes will cost more than Real Sociedad want to pay. That's not just related to the former Manchester United manager's personal wages but also those of the people he would like to bring in. AS say that as things stand Moyes would want Phil Neville as his assistant just like at Old Trafford, but he'd also want a local influence. That's where Leicester City come in. The man named as that local influence is Inigo Idiakez, who is currently a youth coach at Leicester. The 40 year is from San Sebastian, where Real Sociedad is, and came through the youth system there before playing more than 250 times for the club's first team. Idiakez also represented Oviedo, Rayo Vallecano, Derby County, Southampton, and Queens Park Rangers before retiring from football in 2008. He joined Leicester City last year and describes himself as 'Leicester City FC Lead Youth Development Coach for U16s'.
VLC86 Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Fvck off David you bug-eyed goat. Wow that's harsh, on bug-eyed goats.
theessexfox Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Opened this thread (not seeing the date) hoping we'd recruited a specialist set piece coach.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Really hope not, he often nips into the bar in my local and he'll sit there with us and talks football for ages sometimes. Really nice bloke and I bet he's a cracking influence on the younger players growing up. Stay Inigo!
Stadt Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 I saw him the other day and I just awkwardly shouted "Inigo!" and stuck my thumb up in the most twatty way possible he just said "alright" and walked off looking a bit daft.
Tinman Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Rumored he is set to be Moyes assistant at Real Sociedad.
Unabomber Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Rumored he is set to be Moyes assistant at Real Sociedad. Doubt he'd go for a step down at this point in his career.
deep blue Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Rumored he is set to be Moyes assistant at Real Sociedad. Too early to tell how our 16 year olds will progress down the line, of course, but over the last 6 months there seem to have been a lot of reports indicating the number of hot prospects we have in that age group, and how quickly they're coming on (international call-ups, advancing to the older levels, etc), all of which gives us hope for the future of the club. If much of that's down to the influence of Idiakez, it would be a real setback if he were tempted away. Hope this doesn't happen.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 November 2014 Posted 14 November 2014 How much of an influence is he having on the kids here, ramada?
Dan Posted 14 November 2014 Posted 14 November 2014 Thought when he was appointed that it seemed quite a shrewd kind of move. Definitely think your average Spaniard will be better with kids than an English coach for example.
ousefox Posted 15 November 2014 Posted 15 November 2014 I can't believe I managed to go to San Sebastian in the summer and not realise that's where Real Sociedad play. Very poor.
Bert Posted 16 November 2014 Posted 16 November 2014 Thought when he was appointed that it seemed quite a shrewd kind of move. Definitely think your average Spaniard will be better with kids than an English coach for example. Why? Because he's Spanish?
Dan Posted 16 November 2014 Posted 16 November 2014 Why? Because he's Spanish? Better footballing environment and without a doubt a better standard of coaching. Not saying it automatically means he's going to be a genius.
