Guest MattP Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Yes I'm miserable and I don't like the transfer window but I'm of the genuine belief that this window could actually be the biggest danger to our chances. 1. From what we have seen this squad is good enough for promotion, we have a core of around 18 players who can all do whats asked of them in various positions and will all get game time. The most congested part of the season is over now. 2. Change can always bring different results, Chris Wood was a good signing in terms of goals this time last year but the team didn't seem to perform as well with him as they did with Vardy up front. 3. The 'contract situation', you risk unrest with current players wondering about the summer if new deals are handed out to others. 4. Top, four points clear, a young side that should only get better playing together, if it aint broke, don't fix it. (Obvously exceptions will be made if Messi, Iniesta or Falcao all of a sudden decide Filbert Way os for them)
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Kevin Phillips would make no harm at all as a signing
Finnaldo Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 You just know there's going to be an announcement tonight now

If we don't and we get an injury to one of our say 5 key players they are currently irreplaceable with what we have on the bench. I am also concerned that elements of our first XII will burn out without some rest and competition for places. A striker, a right winger and possibly a left back in the offing methinks. Edit in case I'm asked who the five irreplaceable's are: Llyod, Knocky, Nugent (in terms of goals and pace - Nugent aside) Drinky, and Kasper.
Charl91 Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I don't care in the slightest about signing anyone. I think we're good enough, and don't want to upset the good squad mentality we have atm.

If we lose a Kasper, Morgan, Drinkwater or Knockaert we won't be able to get a replacement anyway to that standard as if they were that good they wouldn't be prepared to sit on the bench to wait for the off chance one might get an injury. If Schulpp goes out on loan mind as mooted we will probably need cover at left back. We shouldn't be worried about burn out now. The most packed part of the fixture list is over and I think he'll rest a few more this weekend so some of them will have had virtually a couple of weeks off to come back fully refreshed.
Kitchandro Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 We may need another striker. I think we'll struggle to last the whole season with so few goals up front. There's no reason to disrupt the starting 11 but I'd like better options coming off the bench than GTF, Waghorn and Schlupp who have never been goalscorers. Though I will feel better if Wood comes back and is at his best.

kingfox Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 We have a fairly small squad, and lack options in some positions. So really we do need to strengthen in some areas, especially on the wing, one injury or suspension to Knockaert or Dyer, then we're kind of fooked. Teams around us, like QPR, Burnley, Forest, Derby will all bring in some players during this transfer window, so why shouldn't we?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I'm starting to think that the debt being cleared is going to people's heads.
Guest MattP Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I'm starting to think that the debt being cleared is going to people's heads. It seems to be the mentality of a lot of todays people, "we're cleared the debt so now let's get in more debt". You see it with these gormless fecks who spend years paying off their credit cards and then as soon as they can get another go out and do the same again.
MC Prussian Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Just give me one signing, one little transfer, one new player to arrive at the KP. Please...

No wonder we are top of the league but praps you should not have put that in here. Now everyone will know our secret.

Plus, we'd probably have to cough up a fair bit even for a decent striker to play from the bench. Just checked the table - only Derby have scored more league goals than us! Wood was starting to look decent again before disappearing with New Zealand, getting injured etc. I'd be hopeful that he still has a significant role to play this season. Also, GTF is looking a better and better signing by the minute, Dyer looks set for 10+ goals, Knocky, King etc. Too few goals from defenders and set pieces, but that's a minor complaint. A low-cost, experienced player like Phillips might not be a bad addition, but why risk paying big money out for a decent striker now...we'll certainly have to do that in the summer, anyway, if we do go up...
AKCJ Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I think the first XI is fine. I just think we need a poacher to come on late in games that we can't score in (Forest, Burnley) and a backup winger or two to rotate Knocky and Dyer (both starting to look leggy). Phillips, Mahrez and a loan winger and I think we'll be fine.

Agree with everything. Phillips might be a decent option, him off the bench if we are chasing a goal, GTF off the bench if we are holding a lead. I think the first XI is fine. AKCJ Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I think they have looked more energetic than ever over the Xmas period. and it showed against Millwall.
Strokes Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I don't think.we need anyone, unless there are departures. None of the names being banded about including the rediculous ones fill me with much excitement.
Guest MattP Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 and it showed against Millwall. To use a racing analogy on that "heavy ground" I think anyone would have struggled after 4 games in just over a week. Sure after a 10 day rest they would be back to normal.
Simonb Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 with schlupp maybe gone - cover for konch would be nice, and an option on the right wing too other than that, no one else is needed ... unless KP is not demanding massive wages and will be happy with 15 minute spells from the bench take him A midfield general for the scrappy games v sheff wed, charlton etc where our lightweight midfield isn't tough enough for a battle other than that, our squad, if kept as it is will be capable of maintaining this form, unless they get burnout from being overplayed due to being a small unit

Strokes Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Absolutely, but i'm just saying that we need back up incase of injury or we have another situation like Millwall where they look jaded.I think Pearson tends to change the system if that's the case.
Finnegan Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 I definitely would rather we secure the contracts of the players we already have but I definitely can't object to reinforcing, as long as it's in the right areas. A long term injury to Knockaert or Dyer and we're screwed, potentially needing to change the system just to field eleven players in the right positions and even then likely having to use either full backs or natural strikers for attacking width. Would happily welcome a winger. As well as cover, I think the two we have could use the encouragement of competition. Wouldn't break the bank for strikers, central midfielders or even defenders though. Maybe a left back.
