Just out of interest, those of you in the "league is our priority" crew - what position would we have to be in the league for it not to be our priority?

For me, winning games of football in all competitions should be our priority.

2012, was far more bothered about the cup than the league as we could barely string two wins together and sat between 8th and 13th for the majority. The league football was fairly boring and the cup generated some excitement.

This year it's different, we are in a great position in the league and would love us to stay there. However, I wanted a better performance and result yesterday, we didn't do anywhere near enough to make a real impression. Never happy to lose a game, I hope that in defeat we've learnt things and continue to win matches whatever the competition.

Current poll standings are a horrible indictment of modern football. Pathetic.

I hate the 'modern football' saying. The World changes, football changes. Get used to it.

If players didn't moan about being tired all the time (which is a disgrace as they play a 90minute game of football a week ffs, not exactly running into burning houses are they) then perhaps I wouldn't say the league is priority.

Sorry then would you prefer me to say 'today's football' or 'current football'? My point remains, it's pathetic.

I'm never happy when we lose, but we didn't get outclassed by an established premiership team, gave some fringe players a good run out and we don't have a replay.

It would have been great to beat an established premiership team, and have a glamour tie in the next round or we could have ended up with some shitty away tie and not having the distractions of a cup run could be beneficial.

I think I'm in the Meh category, I can see the positives so I'll focus on them.

Just, football. That's what it is. I call music 'music', but it's not as good as what it used to be.

How many times did Morgan say he was tired during the press conference? He's played two games in four days? Wow. Supposed to be a professional footballer. If they can't physically compete in two competitions then what's the point? It will only come back to hurt us, as games will end up on top of us and we'll end up having more mid week games (more moaning about attendance then).

Cheers Corky, saved me some typing and Voll I want us to win every game, however I am not going to come out with proper fan bs and claim I'm gutted when I'm not!

Quite a few people on here were saying that its a shame that the FA cup isn't taken seriously. Small attendances etc.

Well if you really believe that, I'd suggest that neither does Pearson. Putting out a side which, as Babs said, was missing 5 of our best players, is not giving ourselves the best chance of beating Premiership opposition.

If anyone feels the FA cup has 'lost something' whilst agreeing with Nige's team selection, then a little bit of hypocrisy is going on...

I don't think the question is worded correctly.  I'm not happy that we are out.  But I'm not bothered that we are.

We would have drawn Chelsea away and IMO there is no way we would have progressed further than that anyway.

I'm not bothered we don't get to play Chelsa away and instead will be playing Borough at home in the league.  I would rather be playing a game I think we can win than one that I think we have little chance of doing so.

Besides that the rest of the top 4 are also out (QPR, Burnley, Derby).  The last thing we need is to surrender ground to them for the sake of one extra cup game.

Cardiff went out at this stage last season and it didn't do them any harm.

Personally I love abit of the FA Cup Magic. A chance to go to grounds and play teams we don't normally get a chance to, whether that be lower or higher. Nice break from the league, and watching the next round draw is always pretty exciting. If we don't go up this season, putting a weak team out against Stoke was for nothing and potentially cost us a trip to Chelsea.

I wonder if a lot of the people who voted they are happy are younger members who only know the FA CUP as it is nowadays, with lower crowds and managers resting players and treating it like a 2nd rate competition,

Those a bit older will remember how the FA cup had higher attendances and everyone treated it as a priority even tho they had smaller squads you always played your best team,

This Premiership and Sky money at all costs mentality has ruined it.

It started with the top few clubs resting players because of the champions league taking priority , then the bottom teams doing it because staying in the premiership was priority. Now the top of the championship are doing it because getting promoted is a priority it has ended up a bit of a joke unfortunately until you get to the semi finals. Then that is even devalued because they are played at Wembley to make even more money.

For most finishing 4th bottom of the premier league every year is a bigger achievement  than winning FA and League Cups which is the sad state football is in nowadays, Have an open top bus and count your medals up at the end of your career for that.

It's a difficult one, because the old "Oh now we can focus on the league" excuse is all well and good, but it'll hit the players confidence. A win against Stoke would have given them more belief, however it's stopped their terrific run. I just hope the boys can recover and boss this league as I know only LCFC can #promotionpush

I've always had the philosophy that winning trophies is what its all about.

That's how a club is judged by history. That said, this season I think

should be an exception, we really do need to concerntrate on the league.

I'm not sure if Pearson wanted to win yesterday. The team was missing our best players in a formation we rarely play... Shakespeare said pre match they didn't want a draw, and I believe they would have been happy with a defeat ahead of a draw... There wasn't a hint of anger or frustration in Pearson's voice post match.

The league is the priority, Nige made the quite clear. I agree.

I'm ambivalent towards the whole thing this season to be honest. No idea how anyone can be "glad" that we're out of any competition, at the same time it's a tournament we clearly weren't taking all that seriously and getting out of this godforsaken division appears to be Nige's priority, so I won't shed that many tears.

I'd suspect if we were a Premier League outfit fielding a weakened side a la Villa I'd be a little irked as you'd have thought we'd have sufficient quality within our ranks to actually stake a claim at winning the trophy, then.

this.

for me if I was a player at a club with no chance of winning the league or getting a shot at champions league football.

I'd want to win something. First and foremost it can never be taken away. 2nd it would give me a chance to play in europe. I'd like to think I'd enjoy the experience.

Who in 20 years is gonna care wigan got relegated. Cuz they lifted the fa cup.

plus take villa or west ham as the example. If your good enough to win a cup and a decent player you get a move back to the top flight in the summer anyway.

I hate the fact 4th place and 17th place are more important than the fa cup.
