oxtonfox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 So we lost to Stoke yesterday and we can concentrate on the league. But would you have preferred to keep the unbeaten run from the league going in the Cup too? Remember last season we got on a good winning run in January then we played a weaker side at Huddersfield in the 4th Round to rest a few and after that game it affected our league form too and it all went pear shaped. Do you think we will do the same or will Nigel Pearson and the players be able to get back on the bike and start another great run again? I don't think football is as simple as that but I hope I am wrong.

I don't think football is as simple as that but I hope I am wrong. I do hope you're not suggesting we won 3 in 17 because of an FA Cup replay against Huddersfield? Anyway, i'm slightly sad as it's a good competition but, that said, but it's not the end of the world this year because I think we have our best chance of going up and I don't want extra games in a competition I don't think we will win.
Voll Blau Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I struggle to understand why anyone would be glad that the team they support have lost a game.
C-man Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Not sure how any fan could ever call themselves one if they are glad that their team has lost any game.
davieG Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I don't think it will affect us either way or at least it shouldn't. I'm not convinced it was the cause of any slump last season either I think losing to Peterborough after being 1-0 up did more damage to confidence.
Kitchandro Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I'm not gutted but of course I'm not happy. If people are happy about losing matches and going out of competitions they need to take a serious look at themselves. I think it's different to last season. We came into the Stoke game in good form and full of confidence, and we lost narrowly to a Premiership side with our 2nd team out. It shouldn't make too much difference. Last season, we were slipping into a rut before the Huddersfield matches and desperately needed a win for confidence. Playing a weaker team then made us sink further into that rut and the results and performances definitely had a negative effect. Of course, there were many other reasons we fell away but one of them was because Nigel failed to address the slide on several occasions until it span out of control.
Renart Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Look, I voted 'Sad' because I want us to be in all competitions but I'm not crying into my pint about it. There is no evidence that a good cup run distracts from the league - confidence from winning is good and balances out the 'tiredness' argument - but we went out 2-1 to a Prem team and I really do not think that will knock our confidence. NP will spin it a certain way and there is nothing there to bring the team down. Would rather be in it but now we make the most of being out!
coolhandfox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Last we simple ran out of steam, nothing to do with the cup!
Webbo Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I'm neither happy nor sad, relieved that there are no more distractions to the league but wouldn't have minded being in the next round either ,would describe me better.
HitchinFox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I can just about see the logic in the thinking that a long cup run COULD be detrimental to a promotion push - if nothing else for the extra risk of fatigue and injuries to key players. So wouldn't hold it against people saying they aren't too down about losing at Stoke. However, I could never bring myself to be glad of us being knocked out of any serious competition. Most seasons - including this one - the FA Cup is one of only three trophies we can win as a football club. As the big boys seem to place less emphasis on the domestic cups, it is more realistic for us to win it. So I voted no, I'm not happy that we are out. But now that we are, I want us to win the league even more...
Kitchandro Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Last we simple ran out of steam, nothing to do with the cup! If we ran out of 'steam' why did we pick up again at the end of the season with a few good results? There were several factors but a large one was a complete lack of confidence from everyone.
Monsell1976 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I doubt we would have won it, so not having a congested fixture list is surely better for the promotion push. Less games, more recovery time between games, so hopefully we can maintain our league position.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Ask Cardiff about how a cup run can effect league form
Fox92 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I'm not happy we lost, but I'm sort of 'happy' we're out of the FA Cup. I wasn't too bothered if we lost yesterday, and I don't think Nige was either. The league and getting promoted is the priority as the Premier League is the holy grail... I want Leicester to win the FA Cup, it's the greatest club cup competition in the World but I'd rather lose to Stoke and get promoted. Get promoted, then go for a domestic trophy which Swansea did.
Mark_w Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Voted no, but a 'finding it difficult to give a shit' option would have been closer to how I feel about our cup exit.
sylofox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Glad we don't need the risk of injury or suspensions we could gain in extra games.
LMlcfc Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 would love of to progressed and see how far we could of gone, but also not down about it either, gives us more chance to concentrate on the league,, stops players risking injury.. this year needs to be promotion
harpendenfox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Like others, I'd have clicked an 'indifferent' option if there had been one
Happy Fox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 One day we will win it hopefully in my life time.
Ric Flair Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Most importantly for me is that our league game vs Middlesborough doesn't need to be re-arranged and as Burnley and QPR both went out as well it means there's no danger of us having games in hand at the minute. If we go on to beat Boro then that's superb for us.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Voted glad and I have always loved FA cup until last 10 years or so. The reason for me is pure and simple, no distractions in our push to the Premier League.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 We had a good capital one cup run anyway, so I'm glad.
Carl the Llama Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I voted yes, but it's more a case of I'm not upset about it rather than being happy about it.
????? Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I wouldn't say I was happy, but I am not sad about it or fussed in any way
