LCFC FOX Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Get lost he can't be your favourite player because he is my favourite player. And I bet he has been my favourite player longer than you. So there! have you met him in a pub in Lutterworth though? No didn't think so
LCFC FOX Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 He is no Michael Lamey. he was decent against Sunderland
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Hes quality. missed him so much during his injury
kingfox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 he was decent against Sunderland I think I gave him MOTM that day
deejdeej Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Tried to find a Robbie Neilson compilation on youtube, there wasn't one, which clearly means he was just too good for Youtube. On a serious note De Laet is one of the most consistent performers for me, goes forward in the same manner as G Nev for me, must have learnt alot from the Manc rat.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Do you know what... I actually think De Laet is our most important player for this system. The reason being two-fold: 1) He attacks so well. The amount of times he goes on marauding runs from right back and beats two or three players is amazing. I've been trying to work out (aside from pace) how he does it because he just seems to glide and what I've noticed is that the guy has an instinctive ability to never have to break his stride when taking his next touch. Whereas other players will take the ball halfway through a full stride, with De Laet the ball is always just at the end of a full stride, allowing him to knock the ball on without slowing. I think he's won two or three of the penalties this year which is testament to his attacking prowess. 2) He copes so well when isolated out on the right. With Knockaert having the freedom that he does from that right side you need a right back who can cope if he's given the ball with nothing ahead of him or if he suddenly has two men attacking down his side. De Laet copes with this better than any other defender in our squad so when De Laet's in the team, Knockaert has license to roam with it unlikely to cost us. On the ball he is calm and assured, defensively he has the pace to not get completely done by an overlapping full back or a speedy winger. He's not our most important player by any stretch. Wasilewski and Moore are more than able replacements. But to this system and this style of play he's crucially important.

Yes, this is what I was trying to get at earlier but you put it better. He's the player that allows Knockaert to have his free-role and does an incredibly important job in the system we play. When he was injured you could tell we desperately missed him. It's not that Moore or Waselewski were much worse players at right back, it's just they couldn't handle essentially being wing-backs and not having the support of a right midfielder (due to his allowed attacking freedom) anywhere near as well as De Laet can, whose pace and stamina allow him to do that role well. He doesn't get the credit he deserves often for the incredibly important role he plays for us.
I blame Wellens Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 have you met him in a pub in Lutterworth though? No didn't think soGutted! You win.
foxfanazer Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Bad news. He's slotted back in superbly recently. That ball he played through to Vardy today was awesome
Micky Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 yes Pearson said they will know more in a couple of days.
dayday Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 A young man with hamsting niggles is never a good sign.
HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I just wanted to add a simple name to this thread. Now it isn't saying he is better than De Laet as there are many reasons you can't really compare. However, when we talk about no decent right backs since Stearman apart from the loan of Naughton I want to simply say as a wing back in his 1 season with us at 200 years old, Nobby Solano was good.....just ancient.
Simonb Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 On his twitter it says took a knock didnt wanna take any risk so fingers crossed he'll do a konchesky and be back next week. At least we have adequate cover there
MC Prussian Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 On his twitter it says took a knock didnt wanna take any risk so fingers crossed he'll do a konchesky and be back next week. At least we have adequate cover there... ... in Wasilewski? Oh lord. Moore to play RB against Middlesbrough.
foxfanazer Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Any actual news on his injury? If he is out for a week or two hopefully we just revert back to Moore at RB and Was and Wes in the middle. Still fairly solid that
Foxes1 Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 Ritchie De Laet is good, but not as good as Peter Rodrigues, bet the old uns remember him.
