Zapp Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Have been thinking about important goals, those season defining moments that are the difference between pushing on for promotion or fading away to disappointment. Obviously its all relative no-one knows what would happen if these goals weren't scored, however, I've narrowed it down to the 5 which I feel have been the moments when our players have shown their resilience and/or class in getting a vital, often superbly taken goal. Some individual, others a team effort. I know all goals are important, but these were the ones that stand out as those goals that could define our season. Vardy away to 'boro. 1st game of the season, coming from behind, giving us faith in his ability & the teams resilience. This was a quality goal make no mistake about it. Knockaert away Watford. Never has a goal been scored with such unified relief of putting the past behind us. At the time Watford were a real threat, that goal made it 2-0, the scenes at the time were incredible. This goal was not so much defined this season in its own merit, but defined it as putting the past behind us and allowed us to move on. Vardy away to QPR. This was the moment we realised how good Nuge & Vardy were as a partnership. 1 chance, 1 goal in a half where the whole team put a real shift in. We had more chances in this game, none were put away. Against our current closest rivals at time of writing. Dyer home to Bolton. Individual brilliance minutes after missing a penalty to make it 4-3. Maybe people will overlook this because of the opposition and being at home, but if that finished 3-3 that could have started a nasty run. Nugent away to Leeds. Very recent & should we make it to the prem this would certainly get more votes than it might do right now, but this was a definition of smash & grab. Obviously Kasper deserves credit for the clean sheet, but this was a classy goal, a hurt Liam Moore putting an excellent ball in, Phillips with the dummy. Some could say it was a touch lucky, but its not about luck, its about importance here. If you think other goals have been more important to the season so far, I could understand it. But these are my top 5.
Itsthejoeker Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I voted for Vardy, but Nuge at Leeds was equally as important, tough goal in a tough situation.
foxfanazer Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Vardy against QPR was huge so thats the one for me. Nuge v leeds was big because of how poor we played
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Vardy at QPR - one goal worth 6 points, and it was such a quick clinical goal. Great stuff
StanSP Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Vardy vs QPR. Such a committed performance from Kasper through to Vardy, and not just for the goal, either. Extremely well taken and the signficance of such a goal is still helping us on our cause today. It was QPR's first defeat at home, as well. It's nice to stop a team as good as that in full flow. Knockaert's goal for individual + sentimental meaning also meant a hell of a lot!
Captain... Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Of those listed I would go Vardy at Boro, the kind of game we would have lost last season, but it showed a renewed confidence and belief and got us off to a good start and we never looked back, you could say that Drinkwaters was just as important to get us back in the game, if we had lost that game it would have been a whole different season, but those 2 goals have been the most important for me.
sylofox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 All of them. Take Nugents at leeds won us the game kept us top. Take all the other goals away and we are bottom. Every goal in a 1-0 win is equally important. As are both goals in a 2-1 win.
Mark_w Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Vardy against QPR gets my vote, just because of our form going into it.
sylofox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 How can you put Knocky's at Watford down. The first by wood got the ball rolling.
ousefox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Nothing in Vardy vs boro and QPR and Nugent vs Leeds
Carl the Llama Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 How can you put Knocky's at Watford down. The first by wood feat. Almunia got the ball rolling.
AKCJ Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I went for Dyer vs Bolton. I didn't think we'd win that game. I think not beating them at home would have been more damaging that not beating QPR away.

Not sure that would quite be the case, but I see your point to an extent. Showed a lot to come from behind and win but it didn't dictate how well we've done thus far.
Zapp Posted 28 January 2014 Author Posted 28 January 2014 How can you put Knocky's at Watford down. The first by wood got the ball rolling. I like to think I answered that in the OP but each to their own. If you feel the wood goal was more important for the season then fair play, I personally felt that was the moment people put the heartbreak of last season behind us and although our form wasn't exactly bad, it was the point when we stopped dwelling on the past and focused on the future. Of those listed I would go Vardy at Boro, the kind of game we would have lost last season, but it showed a renewed confidence and belief and got us off to a good start and we never looked back, you could say that Drinkwaters was just as important to get us back in the game, if we had lost that game it would have been a whole different season, but those 2 goals have been the most important for me. absolutely get your point, who knows what our season would become if our bad form continued with a 1-0 loss courtesy of an own goal
Deucalion Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I voted for Nugent v Leeds because it felt as though we had been outplayed and like our purple patch was at an end. Then, Nugent pops up and all is good again and we are still high and on the good run.

Showed a lot to come from behind and win but it didn't dictate how well we've done thus far. We will never know, thankfully we won, but it just set the tone for the rest of the season, an away win after going behind is going to give you confidence going forward, plus the fact it was Vardy and Drinkwater who scored, 2 of the players who received a lot of criticism last season and started them on the way to being top performers this season. I would have Vardy at QPR second, we were on a run of dodgy form, 1 point out of the previous 9, a bit of a wobble that could have become a worrying run of form if we hadn't won at QPR, that goal started our run of 7 wins and 21 points out of 21 so it was clearly very important.
Foxy harry Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 i think vardy v boro 1st day cauese it meant we hit the ground running and we pushed on from that
Fox92 Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Vardy at QPR for me as I think that sent out a sort of indication we are serious about promotion, and winning at a fellow promotion rival is a big statement from any club.
Guest ttfn Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 There was something about that Dyer goal. Nugent had just missed the pen in what was an absolutely ridiculous game, the crowd was anxious but then he pulls out that 40 yard surge up the wing and, rather than lashing wide as is his wont, he just smashed it in the bottom corner.
MC Prussian Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Can't really put it down to one particular goal this season. They've all been very instrumental. I think a thread like this would make more sense if we were to endure another nail-biting finale to a season, Ã la 2012/2013.
Mark_from_USA Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Vardy vs QPR. The reason is that it started the run that made Leicester the Champion-in-waiting and everybody else fighting for the other spots. Now Leicester has the advantage of being able to play to win every game. Everyone else is playing not to lose their position. With Leicester's attacking quality, that's a huge advantage they didn't have last year which I believe will be decisive.
