Mike Oxlong Posted 7 February 2014 Author Posted 7 February 2014 She said she was joking, and you see later in the show supporting her daughter and praising her for her drive. Of course she is going to want her kids to earn more than just benefits as she will want looking after when she is older. She used the money she stole to fund her partners crack habit. I guess I see someone with mental health problems and entrenched in the benefit system as vulnerable, I don't mind the odd pisstake, and didn't find your original post "ornamental garden gnome" offensive, but the direction this thread took went too far. I'm sympathetic to mental health issues although less so if they are self inflicted. Diagnosis of depression is often based on self report and I must say that I didn't gain the impression that she met many of the diagnostic criteria on how she presented. Also she is largely responsible for her own situation so I'm lacking sympathy in her particular case. Think we've done the ethics of this one to death now Pancake.

I don't expect sympathy for her, I just don't think she deserves abuse. But yeah we'll leave it there. Have a nice day.
absolutelegend Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Not that I need another one, but she gives me yet another reason to never vote labour.
MooseBreath Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 If the comments she made to her daughter were a joke, it was unlike any joke I've ever heard. Certainly nobody in my house came close to laughter ( it was more tangible disbelief). Dee herself said it with a straight face, and the daughter looked mortified and confused. But of course CPF knows everything about White Dee's innermost thoughts, so we're obviously all completely wrong about everything and he is right because he just knows. He knows, ladieas and gentleman. He just knows.
RobHawk Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 Its just a bit of fun lets be honest! Shes clearly not worth defending though! she cant get a job because she can't be trusted and whilst she may have mental health issues, they clearly aren't severe enough to stop her from working. I know plenty of people who are bi-polar and manage to hold down jobs. Its likely that the routine and sense of worth a job would provide would only benefit her mental health. That's her excuse for being a lazy waste of space but lets be honest, there are no excuses for that! One of the guys in the programme even said, in Africa if you don't work, you die, so they all work and do what they can to get by. Are we saying that Africa has developed a cure for mental health conditions which is why they all work? Yes we can consider ourselves to be a more civilised society and yes i know people with severe issues who would struggle to hold down a steady job, but she was neither civilised or suffering with severe mental health issues.

Merging Cultures Posted 7 February 2014 Posted 7 February 2014 She lost her job for stealing £13,000 from her job at the council which would make it hard for her to find another job but it's her own fault. Is that how she lost her job? That is truly appalling. Did she get time too?

absolutelegend Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Did she blame her thieving on her sickness? Too sick to do a proper days work
Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 What side affects does her illness have? I am not making an excuse but some people have conditions that change their personalities. If she knowingly and deliberately stole then yes she should have been punished but I am not medically qualified to make an unbiased opinion.

She stole 13,000 and you're making excuses for her. If a banker had done it you'd be baying for blood. As it's the virtuous gutter dwellers, it must be due to an 'illness' but just greed??

Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I said I was not making excuses. I also said I was not medically qualified to judge whether her illness is genuine. Are you? I only asked what side affects the illness can have or any medication that she may take.

The People's Hero Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I'm not medically qualified, no. Theft is wrong though. It's sort of criminal law, regardless of if someone is a bit poorly (which neither of us know). You say you're not making excuses so what exactly are you doing. It sounds like you're linking a crime she committed to an unconnected illness she may or may not have. It sounds not only like an excuse to me, but also like clutching at straws. Odd when you consider the virtue which is all part of the package of claiming benefits, eh Ken?
Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 If she did wrong then she should be punished.
MooseBreath Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 If she did wrong then she should be punished. What do you mean "if"? She stole thousands of pounds kenny. If that doesn't give you an insight into the type of person we're talking about then I don't know what will.
