Dan Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Which Premiership managers haven't spent 'a fortune'? They all do, relative to their wealth. Look at Moyes... 25 million for Fellaini! Didn't McKay spend nearly 12 mill on a striker at Cardiff (Cornelius?) who flopped and has now gone to Copenhagen. Etc Etc Etc.. I don't think you'd give a shite about Arry if he wasn't managing one of our promotion rivals. He is, get over it. Get over what? Moyes isn't as over-rated - who actually rates Moyes at the minute? Mackay didn't work wonders at all this season but they look more like going down now than they did under him. If I'd said that he's the worst manager in England then you'd have every right to react like this - however, all I said was that he's the most over-rated and you've still not named anyone that is more so.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Imagine being a good manager but being 3rd in the league with the squad he has on paper.

So you dislike Rednapp because he's 'rated' ie popular? Just seems like sour grapes to me. There's a list of managers, each of whom, over time, have spent as much money as Redknapp and, relatively speaking have done no better than him: Mark Hughes AVB Big Sam Mancini (spent about a billion quid and fluked a Championship on the final day) Wenger.... won fook all for over a decade.. Sven Why focus exclusively on Redknapp. If you don't like the bloke, thats one thing, but your argument about him being 'over-rated' (by whom?) is bollox.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Get over what? Moyes isn't as over-rated - who actually rates Moyes at the minute? I still rate Moyes, you don't become a bad manager in half a season. Fergie was a great manager but left behind an ageing defence Evra Vidic Ferdinand and players like Rafael and Evans who are not up to Utd standards. Moyes cannot get the best out of these players like Fergie did but like I said he was a great manager. Moyes is not as good a manager as Fergie or Mouriniho but how many are?

I would disagree with you on every single one of them apart from AVB and Sven. And even both of them have arguably achieved more than Redknapp in their careers.
MC Prussian Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Of course, we can be caught. The real question is: Will we?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 I still love you 'Arry, your a top geezer.
Dr The Singh Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Long way to go in the season, I wouldn't rate anyone, any manager or any team off!!
Leicesterpool Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Redknapp is overrated the amount of money he's spent on players at each club is ridiculous, you couldn't imagine Arry being in charge of Burnley and taking them second with the budget they've got.

Again.... sigh.... which manager of Prem clubs doesn't spend a fortune these days? This attitude that Redknapp spends a fortune vis a vis other managers is horseshit. In fact, Redknapp is a bit of a wheeler dealer and often (though not always) sells players on for more than he paid. The 'image' of Uncle Arry differs from the reality and sheep, of course, will jump on the bandwagon. This is why Pearson has done so bloody well. He's gone against the grain, to some extent, and has not spent much at all to get us where we are. Whether this would continue though, in the Prem, remains to be seen.
Harry - LCFC Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Again.... sigh.... which manager of Prem clubs doesn't spend a fortune these days? It's the bankrupting of a club that makes people think he went a bit overboard.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 So there's a lot of debate about Schnorbitz, what do people feel about Bernie Winters? I find he splits opinions too!

Why focus on Redknapp? Well, because he keeps blurting on about Leicester all the time. Get over what? Moyes isn't as over-rated - who actually rates Moyes at the minute? Yeh that was tongue in cheek but I don't think he's any worse than Redknapp is - yet no-one's licking his arse.

Allardyce rates himself very highly, not many others do. AVB got more points last season than Redknapp managed in four with Tottenham. If we are talking about a "genius" which I've heard in relation to Redknapp I'd expect a bit more in the cabinet than one FA Cup. I suppose when you've got mates in the media they can gloss over your failures and big up your achievements.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 It's the bankrupting of a club that makes people think he went a bit overboard. In the same way that Sven was bank-rolled by the club, so was Redknapp by Pompey. It wasn't Sven that signed bog standard players on crazy contracts, in the same way as it wasn't Redknapp who bankrupted Portsmouth. Do try to see the bigger picture.

Over-rated therefore? Probably. And if you think that AVB did as much for Spurs as Redknapp well... put that to their knowledgeable fans..
Captain... Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 To be honest it isn't really the amount he spends, it's the number of players he buys that annoys me. Striker gets injured bring in 4 more, not doing so well buy some more players. Not saying he hasn't made some astute signings, but when the transfer window shuts he adds very little, and I, like others on here, didn't want him as England manager, and think he is very overrated.
One Legged Beaver Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 I don't understand all the ranting that has gone on in the media about how he is a great man motivator. This QPR team really don't looked bothered most days and neither have a good chunk of the teams he's managed in the past. He also claims he doesn't do the training or the tactics so I fail to see what he really does at QPR. It's no coincidence they have dropped off hugely since the departure of McClaren.
Guest MattP Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Which Premiership managers haven't spent 'a fortune'? They all do, relative to their wealth. Relative to your wealth is one thing, convincing a chairman that you should be paying John Utaka and Sully Muntari 100k a week when your ground holds less than 20k is suicide. And all managers don't spend a fortune, Pulis, Rodgers, Moyes, O Neill, Martinez, Wenger and many more have enjoyed periods of success at clubs without having to resort to spending fees that would take theirclub under. We can blame owners if we want, but old Arry doesn't half have one too many of these bankruptcys on his name, and maybe another one on the way very soon. If he didn't have the London media in his pocket he'd be another Mark Hughes or Bryan Robson.

Oh please, I put forward a reasonable point and you respond like that. It's fine if you still disagree with me but please don't talk down to me in that manner. I think you have a big issue in accepting that other people have different opinions. So often when someone comes out with an alternative point of view the response is 'you can't have understood my argument properly or you'd have had to agree! Here let me explain it in again so you can come round to my point of view' It's boring, tiresome and worst of all, childish.

Where to start with Hughes did a reasonable good job with Blackburn took them to the top six in the premier league with a small budget, since then he's been pretty woeful and yet he keeps getting work!

I don't care if you think I'm wrong, I want you to stop being insulting when that happens. If he isn't willing to stop being insulting when he's quite clearly proved wrong, you won't change him when he still thinks he's right. Frankly I don't care how insulting he is, would just be nice if he apologised for it when it becomes obvious that actually he doesn't know everything and didn't get everything right.
