His voice is clear and clean, not meant for shouting and especially not meant for those frenzied moments of urgency and drama when Leicester are throwing the kitchen sink at the opposition or something contentious has happened. Like Stringer or not, he has a very good way of delivering memorable commentary and has the right voice for it. Bourne tried a couple of times to shout and sounded like he was yodeling.

It was only after when they said it was Vardy that I realised we had took the lead.
deejdeej Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 I actually missed stringer tonight, he might be a complete tool at times and think he's an A-lister but he actually puts some enthusiasm into his commentary. Listening on the radio is a frustrating experience regardless of the commentator.
aussie-fox Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 i found bourne this morning really hard to get a feel for the game via the radio. when we scored his voice just stayed the same level it had all game and it took me about 3 seconds to actually confirm we had scored. the penalty was the same.

Foxfromburbage Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Reading the comments they need to Mate and the off spring commentate in the future. Both do a good job in their roles and as a replacement for the match Jason did well and did a far better job than I would.

Bourne may not get into silly conversations with Young but he was even more pathetic than stringer at following the action. His problem is he is far too slow. He thinks too much about what he's saying instead of just getting to the point and dallies on his sentences. Add to that he cannot shout and has no passion. TBH I found it very hard to hear his voice. Bourne may well be a better reporter than Stringer but there is no part of his commentary that is better than Stringer's.

I can display my own passion perfectly without stringers assistance, so great job by Jason for me. I also much prefere JB for the same reasons but do find some if the stringer stuff amusing but last night the commentary was awful.

Exactly my the thinking,was looking forward to the game but seemed like a pre season friendly with the less than enthusiastic commentary, Gould have thought we lost 2-0 as it was only when the forest dans cheered you would have known there was a goal.
Fox92 Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Was at the game yesterday, but heard the post match in the car. Is Bourne not a Leicester fan? How come he doesn't get excited? He was like "and Vardy should tap it in and Leicester lead" (or whatever he said), but Stringer would have been going mental... I know a lot of you criticize Stringer, and I know myself he can sometimes talk about random stuff but the lad's a Leicester fan and his passion shows. We'd all be exactly the same. I'm glad we've got someone like Stringer and not a boring reporter.

To be fair, any of us had a go (think he has commentated twice before?) we would be useless, it's harder than you think. The lad posts on here, and probably is reading the posts from here today and last night and probably dented his confidence. He is a human at the end of the day and it won't be nice reading some of the stuff people have said. people called him a cvnt last night in the match thread? OTT i think He is also doing the job all of us would love to do, so a lot of it might be jealousy. Give him a break lads - he did his best.

Exactly, whilst I wasn't a fan of his last night. You could tell he sounded quite nervy. I think he had read some the moans about Stringers style and perhaps took that on board and went a little bit too far the other way. That Geoff Peters fella should come back.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 For all the pointless guff that Stringer comes out with, he does have a great knack for upping the excitement - something I think I took for granted till last night. While Bourne did describe the match better, his tone of voice and lack of enthusiasm made for a detached 90 minutes. It felt like someone who had no interest in (/slight indifference to) Leicester, reading out BBC text updates on the match. I'd rather have someone who clearly loves Leicester tell me what's going on, even if he misses the odd sending off/leg break/goal because a bird shat on someone's coat/crisp packet flew over pitch/hot air balloon/Youngy didn't cut the crusts off his sandwich/earthworm spotted in technical area

Captain... Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 All thre comments about Bourne, I would have said the same about the Notts duo that were doing the 5LiveSportsExtra commentary. It took ages to realise that Vardy had scored, and there was no sound from the crowd which didn't help, they also didn't go mad when Forest scored. I think we have just got used to Stringer shouting and saying "He must score... in the build up to every attack. I can't criticise or defend Bourne as I didn't listen to it, but I think in some ways our judgement is clouded as to what a good commentator is by listening to Stringer all the time, love him or hate him, his commentary style is not conventional and shouldn't be the yard stick to judge others.

Long gone are the days when commentators where experts in there field, impressed you with there depth of knowledge and painted a picture as you listened.
