Today, while Stringer was off having a run in Tokyo, many people got their wish and someone else commentated. For me, there was no doubt I knew more of what was happening with Jason Bourne at the mike. He concentrated more, he didn't talk about his tea, what anyone was wearing or about the local wildlife. But, where was the magic? Last year with Stringer we had 'Allez le Blues' to add to a long list of Stringerisms. These often are almost as memorable as the event they mark. Stringer does seem less professional, but he also get excited and makes listening to a Leicester game into an event beyond local radio coverage of a match. That's why, without any disrespect intended towards our Mr Bourne, I would vote for Stringer.

StanSP Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Lot of harsh calls on Twitter saying Jason Bourne should be sacked. Bit far-fetched I think. I much prefer Stringer, however. With no disrespect to Jason. They both clearly have different techniques. I've never had a problem with Stringer, either. Yeah he isn't everybody's cup of tea and does come out with some odd one-liners (along with Youngy) but that's what makes him unique.

STUHILL Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Stringer for me as at least he injects some passion into his commentary! Yes he can be annoying sometimes but Bourne today was so dull, it was hard to know when we had scored as his tone never changes! Zzzzzzzz Bring Stringer back!

pSinatra Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 I listened to Forest's commentary tonight with John McGovern & some other bloke. I didn't mind their Forest bias.....they're bound to be biased. They were just awful. It certainly made me appreciate Stringer & Young. I have never minded Stringer & his waffle. I find him & Youngy quite entertaining. I don't want grid references of where the ball is on the pitch & constant analysis........it's dull. Forest's commentary was far more detailed.........it was dull.

I don't think I would've posted this if I had've known, it is a massive over-reaction. The only thing he did 'wrong' was he didn't really react when we scored. Jason Bourne is fine and is a good, sensible foil to the comedy double-act of Stringer and Young. He definitely has his place.
Larry_LCFC Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Stringer all day long. Bourne was poor tonight. No emotion at all when Leicester scored either goal. Didn't even realise the first one went in. As some suggested maybe he was terrified of celebrating because of the trees in front of him. Then again, that wouldn't have stopped Stringer...

Carl the Llama Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Jason actually had me knowing what was going on between phases. It was hard to decipher what was going on for the Mahrez goal, but overall it was a better commentating job than Stringer normally does. Jason does need to be a bit more concise and seriously needs to work on his drawl, but for me his faults as a man whose job it is to describe events are more workable than Stringer who needs ADD pills or something. In an ideal world I'd have a more confident and excited Jason doing the commentary and post-match interview with lappy dog Stringer taking over for the post-match nonsense babble and moronic phone-call extravaganza.

Jason, when you read this, please take it on board for Ipswich. Alter the tone of your voice as we attack, and show some passion when we score. Run round naked if you have to. Xen Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 I liked tonight. For once I actually knew what was going on on the pitch. Yes it droned on a bit and the first goal wasn't immediately obvious who scored (I was distracted at the time, so the lack of excitement made it a bit unclear), but otherwise it was fine. Definitely something that can be improved if JB was to commentate more often. I'd wager it's a confidence thing (esp. sitting near the home fans) as much as anything else. Stringer is definitely more exciting to listen to, but far less helpful at giving the listeners what they need - a description of the game. One of the things I liked about JB tonight though was the effect he had on Alan Young. Alan actually seemed to provide some decent insight for once, rather than getting overly drawn in by Stringer's excitement on the most irrelevant topics.

Listening to a match a few weeks ago, possibly Middlesbrough, I had no idea what was going on and I'm a fan of Stringer's commentary. Usually it's down to a boring match but that didn't seem to be the case. Stringer himself has said he will miss a player who plays a transitional pass, or if the ball is stuck in midfield and I'm fine with that. "Play by play", to use an Americanism, with Bourne tonight was no worse than Stringer on a good day, but as stated he needs to work emotion. Stringer is better, Bourne isn't bad, I've listened to Jon Barber before and this is the best commentary team we've had since Foulger and Peters.

MattGamble92 Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Neville Foulger was as monotone as anyone. His strength was description imo. Something alot of radio commentators lack alot. Tonight from start to finish was just unbearable.
