I don't play multiplayer anymore, but I was a pro at Halo 3 which was - and still is by all accounts - the gold standard of Halo PVP.

No co-op, no forge, broken theater, bare-bones custom games, little playlist variety, broken ranked system, 250ms servers, de-sync, broken melee, broken matchmaking, broken BTB, and lacking spartan customization is what a lot of people are moaning about online.

I'll stick to the campaign and stay in my single-player cave.

I think what I like about Halo Infinite multiplayer is by and large it is exactly how I remember Halo 3's multiplayer. The spartan customisation doesn't bother me too much as it's pretty much just colours and slight armour shaping, you don't get any ridiculous like Santa

It's just the matchmaking, but hopefully that'll get ironed out. It might also be just a case of some "new" players seem like pros because they've played so much Halo it doesn't matter that they've only just got Infinite, they're still really good... But the matchmaking still sees them as a noob because they've only played a handful of matches on this game? Just a possibility

Overall though it's great, and really rewards you actually communicating with your teammates. If you go lone wolf like on most FPS's you'll get battered when you suddenly come up against 2 or more of the opposition at once

The gunplay in infinite is excellent but everything else is substandard is my experience with the online. Rather that than gameplay be rubbish but all the other components be on point. But seems we live in a world where its considered obscene to expect something resembling a finished product at release.

Battlefield devs back off holiday tweeting about how unreasonable fans are expecting updates and changes straight out the gate. Ridiculous. Don't release a broken and shit game and the fans won't be angry. Player base has dropped to much lower than battlefield 5 and 1, serves them right.

Kept them all alive but all the crew were dead when i got there. I read about it and if i went straight into the mission after i had got the IFF i would have saved all the crew. Really annoyed.

I have now killed the shadow broker so all ME2 is now complete. 40 hours. I love how the 3 games are directly linked to the actions i take. Starting ME3 now

Just played through Firewatch on Game Pass, really short but great original storytelling. Can't think of many games I've thought of the storyline after I've completed it

Played it yesterday. Like, in one sitting.

Loved the game world, and the branching conversation (would be interesting to play through again and make totally different choices) The voice acting was superb and felt very natural especially given the amount of variables.

Can't help but be disappointed by the ending though. The game does very well ramping up tension and paranoia, and I was certain a big twist was coming... But it fell pretty flat in the last half an hour or so.

Finished Mafia 3 y'day. Good game but has its flaws.

Got Ghost of a Tale and Kingdom Hearts 3 lined up but might have a couple of weeks off gaming for now. Feels like I've done nothing else since March 2020. lol

Playing jedi fallen order and think it's brilliant my only complaint is the map and knowing where you need to go is a nightmare. I hate using guides or walk through but I've had to twice in my first 6 or 7 hours, but not for a puzzle or combat or anything, just to work out where the hell to go, the map is a disaster. It's a shame as its really taking me out the experience from time to time, but when I'm rolling through enemies or working out how to do puzzles I'm loving it.

Trying to get into Darkest Dungeon 1 but I'm struggling with the early game mechanic where you have reduced healing in town until you can complete a mission requiring levelled up units.  It's leaving me in a vicious cycle where I never quite have enough levelled or healthy units to complete that mission.  Last time I tried I ended up losing my only useful healer and my best melee attacker so now I've got to grind out a bunch of runs with new units until I can field a decent team again.  I feel like I must be missing something.

Does anybody play Fall Guys? I’m tempted by it after watching a Twitch streamer play it and it looks hilarious.

Never played it, but thought similar after I saw Lando Norris streaming on Twitch a few months ago.

Meanwhile, I've just started playing Fortnite over the last few weeks. Never been interested before, and other than F1 sims and retro games, haven't gamed properly for years. But now that my son is at an age where he's getting into stuff like this, I thought I'd give it a bash. It feels like a fun version of the old COD games, but much more addictive.

Am I right in saying you've played a reasonable amount of both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen? (100+hrs in both?)

yeah easily. what can i help you with?

Basically, I'm an Elite Dangerous player with a few hundred hours invested but I just find it ultimately a bit soulless and empty. If I don't have a current target to grind for I get bored very quickly. It's just too vast and empty with not enough to do.

A friend of mine actually rates Star Citizen but I've only really ever heard negativity. Essentially it's an overly ambitious project with too much scope creep that'll never be finished and it's a total rip off.

But this friend of mine is usually a really good judge of a game so I'm just looking for additional opinions.

Would you recommend it and if so, can you talk a bit about why? Sell it.

Well, as i myself am an elite dangerous veteran who lost interest, i switched to SC for the same reasons you are finding in ED, its shallow and grindy with not much reward ( at least it was when i left about 2 years ago and i have heard it got worse with super carriers or whatever the hell they are called)

I loved the change initially, and played for a few months, the worlds it has are far more detailed and well thought out, the ships themselves resemble entire game levels in some cases, the missions can be varied and you can choose to do what you like, bounty hunting (pvp or pve) trading, delivery missions, drug smuggling, this was all last time i played nearly a year ago. unfortunately i became equally disillusioned with the whole thing, similar promises have been made like a new star system ( SC only has 1) and various game engine things that never came, all while they continued to release picxtures of ships and run "expos" on planets to show off some of the ships in game while none of the new stuff that actually matters for the gameplay ever came.

i absolutely love the way its built though, it can be tough to run (SSD is a must) and your fps will be around 40fps on a good system with a (few tweaks to your performance setting you can gain a few more frames) the space stations are varied, the planetside cities are amazing, walking into shops and picking things up off the rack to examine them is just one example of the detail and thought that has gone into it.  the ground vehicle missions are cool, nothing quite beats summoning your constellation, driving your rover on to it, taking it to a planet, unloading it and driving around, its very realistic in that sense and i fully intend to return when the game reaches a proper alpha or beta state.

for the 40-50 quid it costs to get in to the game its a bargain honestly, there is a load of things to do and discover as new player, i expect it will be a good 3 months before you start to see the cracks and by then more will have improved as updates are frequent. "new build version every 3-4 months with minor fixes in between.

there is partial persistence as well, something that was asked for , for a long time, so you can earn your credits and buy any ship that is in the game for your in game credits, but sometimes they will wiped the entire server and you'll have to start again, just alpha things. you can also rent certain ships to try them out, like a mining or transport ship to try out these other gameplay elements.

with that in mind i would buy a package that includes a good all around ship, something with weapons and cargo space so you can do most of whats on offer from the start. the community is generally good and helpful in game, if you need help its usually offered and people will even lend you ships to try out because it costs nothing to replace them at the moment, unless you want to spent the paltry 3k to speed up the return timer.

ship to ship combat isnt something i have done a lot of, in ED i was a trader and explorer mainly , and i tended to do the same in SC as well, though when i did do pvp, an out and out fighter is what you need. you can buy hardpoint upgrades, engine upgrades, shield upgrades, the whole lot, from several different places, each having different modules to try, but you have to get out there and find them and buy them at the source. again ,rent or buy a ship in game is good for this.

i can take a look at game packages with you if you have some choices you want advice, a few ships have released im sure since i played but i would be able to advise based on what you want to do. it can be a bit daunting at first but elite dangerous was tough to learn as well, im sure you'll pick it up quite easily.

thats what comes to mind but if you have any questions, ask away.

oh, final thought, some of the ships are expensive, so its potentially pay to win at the moment. you will be setting out in the SC version of a sidewinder and you will see ships 4  or 5 times the size of an anaconda docked next to you. the scale of it is incredible honestly. SC say that when the game goes into beta, the ship "pledges" will stop. another reason why i think its taking so long, chris roberts money farm will go away when the game releases and i wonder what they plan to replace it with to keep the game running post release. but space stations are safe spaces where guns are disabled (except pirate stations) usually all fighters are pretty well matched , in that a larger fighter with more guns and armour can and will likely lose to a smaller, nimbler one with a single hardpoint. also, you can run away!

anyway, yeah, i recommend it over ED any day of the week, there is more to do but i think that eventually you will start to be waiting for what the next update might bring.

I have started playing the series again, ME1 was ok, got boring but i made it through, its a short game, and im smashing ME2 , its so good, game game out 10 years ago and i have forgotten most of it, its like im playing for the first time again. anyway, i got to the bit where i have to decide if i get the IFF now or later, and i thought of this post. im guessing i build my team, do the missions for them and sides, then get the IFF and head straight to the omega 4 relay?

So its not just your teammates you need to think about its the crew on the Normandy. So if you want to save absolutely everyone then,

Do all loyalty missions with all characters (that are available)

Get the IFF (and final character)

Do final Loyalty mission

Go straight to Omega 4 relay

Complete suicide mission (selecting suitable characters for each section)

I feel like im giving you spoilers so didnt go into detail with final character. lol

I get the sense im getting close to the end of ME3. I love seeing my previous decisions in ME1 and ME2 come to fruition. Im over 100 hours between the 3 games. I wish there were more games like this, so many different decisions to make that have massive impacts in ME3, im seriously considering going straight into another play through but as a complete renegade ( i am full paragon) I feel like ME3 would be a very short game in full Renegade lol
