thybluefox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Whoever finishes top out of us and Burnley will deserve to be the team of the season. I don't want them to keep winning, after being this long at the top I want that title. But you do have to respect what they've done, I thought they'd have fallen away by now and they've proved me wrong.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Bollocks! I know we're biased but the football we have played, scored more goals, more clean sheets - we are definitely the team of the season so far. I watched Burnley in our draw earlier this season and i have to say, apart from the front 2 and 1 or 2 others - nothing special.Footballing wise we are having a cracking season no doubt about that and we will get what we deserve. However I'm just trying to make the point that Burnley are doing fantastically well for a smallish squad on a limited budget and with all due respect a smaller fan base etc. that's what I mean by credit where it's due
crazylegs1984 Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Ross Wallace has said that Burnley's gaze is on catching Leicester City and winning the Championship, not over their shoulders at the chasing pack for automatic promotion. The Clarets are currently seven points clear of Derby in third and can extend the gap to double figures if they win at Birmingham City tonight. The gap is about the same at eight points to Leicester at the top and because of this, Wallace says that Burnley are looking up. "For me personally I think 'why don't we catch Leicester?," the Burnley Express quotes winger Wallace as saying. "They might drop points and start to get a bit edgy and if we keep winning games who knows? We can be looking up instead of looking behind us. "We've still got to play them at home so there could be a few twists and turns in the season." Wallace has been troubled by injury this season and made just three starts for Burnley in the league.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 If any of their players staff or fans said differently I wouldn't believe them, of course they are chasing us and not looking over their shoulders However there are a few games to go yet
Guest kristianity77 Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 To be honest its perfectly acceptable that they could catch us. They only have to beat us at their place and the title is wide open. Plus we do have a tricky 4 or 5 game run later on in the season.
TrentFox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 It's the right mindset for the team in second. It's what they should be focussed on.
surrifox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 the way we are playing I fully expect us to dismantle Burnley when we play them - they cant even dream of beating anyone 3-0 , we are no longer surprised to win by that sort of margin
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 March 2014 Author Posted 12 March 2014 Absolutely the way they should view it. In trying to keep up they will surely get promoted. They won't catch us though.
foxfanazer Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Of course they can catch us. Doing it is a totally different matter. We won't lose enough games imo for that to happen
Lobsterboyuk Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Agree with everything he said, if we go up second it's a footnote to an amazing season with promotion the prize we want. Nothing is settled until the P suffixes our name in the table.
Bryn Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Good for them, that's exactly the attitude they should have and they ARE capable of it, if we stop playing well. They are a damn good team. We're better, thankfully, and I wholeheartedly believe we will see the job through.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Personally I don't think they'll catch, but I hope to god they come second since the only realistic competition is Derby. Wigan to come up via play offs.
lancyclaret Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Some Burnley fans still think we can catch Leicester but the majority would be delighted to finish 2nd. There are even a few weird souls who would still be satisfied with a play-off spot. At the start of the season, I would have been thrilled with a play-off spot but, after being in the top 2 or 3 nearly all season, anything less than 2nd would be a bit of an anti-climax. Five years ago, I was in dreamland when we finished 5th and won the play-offs but we had never been higher than 4th all season. I vaguely remember the 1972/73 title-winning season when it was still 2 pts for a win. We just edged out QPR on the final day, but there were no play-offs then and just the top two went up and the bottom two down. It was a 42-match season and we only lost 4 (2h, 2a). If it had been 3 points for a win, after 34 games we would have had 67 points, two LESS than this season.
Pegosteve Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Stan James has us at 1/500 for promotion. They have us at 1/20 for the title which with the points difference and games left is quite surprising. Burnley 8/1 for the title... a cheeky little bet to make up for the disappointment if they do overhaul us? I know we have to play Burnley,QPR,Reading, Wigan and Brighton still but if we are going to survive the Premiership we need to be winning these games. So I think getting caught now would be a ball ache.
