My late father was 16 and went with his mates that day (in fact he went to most away games in the 70's.) He always told me that he didn't know who Waters was when they announced the scorer at half time and the away end was absolutely brilliant to be in. I think his mum went absolutely mental at him as he got back early Sunday morning and didn't let her know where he was going.

As an aside Barry Davies' commentary on his two goals is absolutely sublime, and one of the best bits of LCFC-related commentary ever, in my opinion.

I remember Joe Waters. I think we picked him up for a nominal fee from some minor football club. Grimsby seems to ring a bell?

I don't think he had a very long career with City but I think I remember him scoring a few important goals for us from midfield?  He was short in stature but had a good pair of lungs on him.

I wonder where he is now & where did he go after he left City?

Yes, agree with above posters. Magic away atmosphere, as was the Luton game also. Wonderful days that'll never return with modern stadiums.

Having not given it a moment's thoughr for years, the moment I saw the name Joe Waters I can remember being in the post office in Kibworth hearing the score. I was 7. Amazing what the memory holds

Back on the ninth day of March, seventy four

We faced QPR  away in the sixth round Cup draw

But an inspired choice by Jim Bloomfield of Joe Waters

Proved to be a sensational hit with City supporters

As he grabbed both goals in a two - nill score!

Following it via the BBC.:thumbup: (I was only a liccle lad though :P )

I was five and just embarking on going to 'Humberstone Junior School'.

My old teacher there was Bleddyn Jones, of the Tigers and Radio Leicester fame.

Smashing teacher he was.
