jamfox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 I think Paul Konchesky is eligible again after suspension, but should Jeff keep him out or a least given a rotational role? For me YES, Nothing against Konchesky but after 3 starts and 3 clean sheets Schlupp has earned it. Also I think Jeff can make it as a left back in the premier league he has skill and pace and is developing his positional play, At the top level I don’t think he will make it as a striker but maybe it’s time he made the decision to focus on trying to be the next Ashley Cole? Konchesky has a lot of experience and has probably been a good mentor for Jeff, but you can’t lean blistering pace, that s why Leicester we are going up! Teams can’t cope with the speed of our attack, if we make the top tier and its ours to through away now, we are going be up against teams doing to us what we have done to most of the sides in the championship this year. We going to need a lighting left back and I think the lad can do it. I think there has been a few teams knocking on the door about him and Ferguson wanted to sign him for Man U and he is clearly no mug. He clearly loves the club as well, Step forward Jeff Schlupp the premier league left back. Discuss.
Haydos Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Haven't seen the games live but by the sounds of things he's played very well (not just for someone with his lack of experience in that position). Don't see any reason he should lose his place personally but others may have reasons to disagree.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 I like Konchesky but Schlupp definitely deserves the left back position V Blackpool. I'd like to see him develop as a left back as I think he might have a chance of being first choice next season as Konch might be a little to slow for the PL now (If we go up )
Jimmy Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 he'd be a brilliant wide man in a 433 next season as I can't see us playing 442 all season, I'd prefer he played there, with a more experienced left back behind him, but if he wants to become a left back great
Fox92 Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Not sure about focussing on full back, but he should keep his place yes. Three clean sheets in a row, what's the point in changing it.
MGLCFC Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 It would be difficult to argue for him losing his place. Three clean sheets and some competent performances. On the other hand, the opposition have not offered much attacking wise in those games. I'd like to see Schlupp keep his place for the time being, but Konchesky's experience in some of the tougher games may be invaluable.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Been very good for us so should keep his place. Can't argue with three clean sheets same goes for Waso and Moore
ScouseFox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 yeah. i gave him stick as a left back at the end of last season because let's face it he was shocking. however he looked just as bad as a striker in the large part so it was a bit of a dilemma. i've seen him at left back twice this season, watford (a) and ipswich (h) and he has been good in both, and we've won both 3-0 with two clean sheets. add to that the other two games recently we have won 3-0 with a further two clean sheets and it's hard to drop him. whether he should focus on being a left back is another thing, but if he focusses on it he needs to be trained, taught positioning and instinct (can that be taught?) of a defender. if he wants to play football at the highest level it is as a left back imo, with training and experience. up to him, nige and our staff as to whether he is good enough for us and the prem.

He clearly loves the club as well, Step forward Jeff Schlupp the premier league left back. Discuss. Not sure about that part but the rest raises some good points. I've always said that Schlupp has all the attributes to be a top player (touch, pace, strength, ability to strike a ball) but the one thing he lacks is positional awareness and positional play. It's very easy to look ok in a side that is beating other sides 3-0 at Championship level but doing in The Premiership is an altogether different matter. At the very top level of the game you can't get by purely by being a good athlete, you also have to be able to read the game to stand a chance against the very best players in the world. That's not to say Schlupp doesn't have a future or the potential to play at that level, I just think he's going to need a lot of coaching and hard work in order to do so. One thing's for sure however, and that is that he's not going to make it at this level or higher as a striker so he should certainly focus his efforts on becoming a full back/winger.
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Yes of course he should. Said this months ago and for me, it's a no-brainer. I'm not knocking Konch. He's done well this season. But we do need to continue to give Jeff a chance if he's going to be played there next season. Which I think he should be.
RowlattsFox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 To be fair we have been lucky that we have played Ipswich, charlton and Barnsley during this period so he's not really been tested in defence. It could have been burnley, Wigan and reading and this thread could have been very different. He has all the attributes a modern full back should have and I can see him having a future there if he works at it.
Mark_from_USA Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 The Premier league is brutal. There are no Barnsleys, Charltons, and Ipswiches missing their lead striker to cut your teeth on. If he's to roll out at left back in the PL, he'll need to go against Wigan, Burnley, QPR, Reading, etc and see how he does. Do it now, when Leicester can afford mistakes. They won't be able to next year.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 For me, Jeff has got all the makings of a quality left winger. He is young but has the attributes for that position and the potential to progress even further. I dont see him as a striker and is a decent left back. however, at left wing he could progress further than championship level in my opinion.
Dan Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Three games at left back and we've won all three convincingly without conceding. I'd start him on Saturday. He's starting to win me over.
thybluefox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Should without a doubt keep his place on Saturday, he's been much better in these 3 games than Konch, IMO.
Buzzell Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 The longer he keeps performing well at left back, the longer he will be there. Don't change it unless we need to.
Corky Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Certainly stay in for Saturday. However, I'd rather have Konch's experience for Burnley and Wigan.
LCCFox96 Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 For this season yes. He's playing well and regularly and may yet be able to keep Konch out of the side. In the long term. He'd need to think about it more. I still think he'd be best on the left wing.
Finnegan Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 He's a ****ing terrible attacker, he'll certainly never be a Premiership striker. But he's got plenty of skill and is dangerous enough for an attacking full back. Bags of pace, strength, showing lately that he's learning too. If he continues to develop and gain experience there then I consider him a real prospect.
Munshi Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 And people were saying 'Lets Start Miquel LB for Ipswich'.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Not sure about focussing on full back, but he should keep his place yes. Three clean sheets in a row, what's the point in changing it.This
Lobsterboyuk Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Jeff's done a great job at LB, be surprised if Konch gets back in anytime soon...

I'm sure people were saying something similar about Vardy, Schlupp hasn't had half the chance up front Vardy got LAST season yet people have already made up their minds
LCFC FOX Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 He's played better games for us at left back than as a striker, I hope he focuses on becoming a left back
