25 man squad and back up ? logan to go

as u know we can only have 25 players in the prem should we get there

i think nigel would be looking at 2 keepers

2 for each position and 3 utility men

now for me should kasper stay i really dont think logan is a decent number 2 and we should look to bring in another keeper

also im worried about konch  i think maybe he will be back up for schlupp who can also play lm or lw or st   bakayogo to go

rb tbh i think with de leat there and moore as back up we are ok

cb   morgan, wassa, moore     bring in one more   and let st ledger go

midfield this is a tough one  drinky and james to stay  but i think nigel should bring in a a quality hard man for cdm and a quality playmaker  this then gives him options for a 41212 should he want or to give us that bit of quality.

james ,drinkwater and king to stay and sign 2 more   danns, gallagher and hammond to go

wings    dyer, knockeart and mahrez  and bring in one more for the left

strikers personally i would only keep vardy and nugent  let waghorn, wood and taylor fletcher go

so for me i would sell or release

logan

bakayogo

st ledger

danns

gallagher

hammond

waghorn

wood

taylor fletcher

that gives us still a core team of 15 players

kasper

de leat/ cover moore

morgan,wassa,moore

schlupp/konch

drinkwater/james/king

knockeart/mahrez

dyer  cover schlupp

vardy/nugent    cover schlupp

so nigel could bring in 10 players    and not affect the main squad

id like to see a hard man style cdm and a playmaker with another fast striker and a target man

We definitely need experience on the bench, and no-one has more experience on the bench than Logan :)

That's a lot of players to be getting rid of, what if we release them all and then can't get anyone in?

We should get the unwanted players out, Danns, Gallagher, Futacs, Bakayogo and then try and bring players in before getting rid of anyone else. I certainly wouldn't be getting rid of Wood or Hammond and we don't want to be panic signing inferior players to make up the numbers

i know what your saying mate but lets be honest  90 per cent of those wont ever play for us again and hammond was bought in as cover for what we already have so there is no improvement and wood when he has played has not really shown he is of prem quality id like to see a quality striker come in with a good footballing brain

nigel likes to buy players who have something to prove or someone he can improve

maybe our scout has a little gem from abroad lined up or if fulham go down id like to see a cheeky bid for bent , hes had a bad couple of years but has not had a good run since then and has pace and quality and can hold up play well

Why are people so keen to get rid of Wood? Only been out of the team because of Vardy and Nugent, whenever his chance appears to have come he's been injured. Gets more stick than he deserves IMO.

Agree on the whole about which players to release though. Some very easy decisions in there of course - we've known for a while people like Danns and Gallagher aren't in Pearson's long term plans. Still undecided on a few of those names, whatever Pearson decides will probably be the right decision.

I agree.

Also think we defnitely need to beef up midfield with 2 players of quality plus 1 class attacker and 1 class centre back

we have been lucky with injuries this season so we need to think about strength in depth especially in midfield

I don't see NP bringing in ten players: it's just not his style. On the other hand, of the ones you suggest should go, I would only disagree with Wood and Taylor-Fletcher. Maybe there are Development Squad players he'll blood before the end of the season? I'm sure it's something Steve Walsh and his team are looking at now, just in case we do get promoted.

If any more than 3 players come not including replacements for potential 1st choice departures like Schmeichel) I'll eat the phone I'm writing this on.

Sure you can have any number of academy players so Schlupp & Moore wouldn't count towards the 25, AFAIK

And a 41212 (442 diamond) - Remember Sven? Premier League fullbacks & wide men would rip us a new one.

GTF & Hammond seem good squad players to me, they've certainly done the job when called upon.

Signing players that could then be benched is an exact science, look at recent history SSL, Mills, Beckford & others upsetting the apple cart throwing the whole squad out of balance.

I'm sure between Walsh & Pearson they'll get the balance right

Conrad has played one game in the last year, would we really get a decent 2nd choice keeper willing to play 1 game a year?

Danns, Gallagher, Futacs and Bakayogo will be gone.

Sean St Ledger, however much I hate to say this, will be gone as well. Decent player but has hardly played in the last 2 years

Waghorn - He'll be sold but I'd expect him to go for a couple of million. He's performed well at every club he's gone out on loan to.

Wood - Would never sell him. Due to his age he probably has the most potential of all the strikers.

Hammond, Taylor-Fletcher - People seem to immediately say that these two should be sold and they may have a point but I don't think it's fair to single out players because they're older, slower, etc... They have played very well for Leicester when they've been called upon. They also have Prem experience. So, really not sure about these two.

Pretty sure bringing in 10 players would be mucking up the squad a little bit. You can't just rip out our immediate cover like Wood etc without giving them some game time in the premiership. Hammond for me is a good player to have around for another year.

Also it's not 25 players. It's 25 over 21 players as those under don't have to be registered I think. So the likes of Moore wouldn't even count in the registration phase or in the 25 man squad. I think that's right?

You won't get anything for Waghorn, he's out of contract.

Gallagher will not be leaving. He has one year left on his contract. It is highly likely that those with remaining years left on their contracts will stay. Agents put clauses into contracts that state a players wage increases dramatically should we be promoted. So you won't be seeing a mass exodus of contracted players leaving to play for a championship club at the end of the season.

The situation will be the same as this season, but with different faces. Instead of SSL, Gallagher, Danns being frozen out, it will be others that won't make the grade that we will try and force out.

The logical answer in my opinion is to keep all that currently feature at all in the squad.  So Danns, Waghorn Gallagher to go.  I think that Miguel should be kept because he is young and a good footballer.  Wood is unlucky not to be in the team so why let him go?  I think that at the moment it is important to keep the same striking partnership but Nugent must improve for the Premiership.  I would keep Phillips on if we can too. The team works so why dismantle it.  Add to it yes.  The idea of another defensive midfielder is a total waste.  Spend on getting goals.  The defence may need strengthening because if we are to continue this brand of football we need to firm it up.  I do not mean get rid of what we have but see if there are any young players available.  Pace needs to be kept it is out biggest asset.  We may be able to play Mahrez closer to Vardy and bring Nuge on as a substitute.  The team is there and as with the one that O'Neill took up has already got its shape.

Why wouldn't he bring in 10 players, he has brought in at least 5 this season and has had his hands tied somewhat.

we are working from a squad of about 20 now, so I would expect at least 8 signings.

Posted

I'd like us to get another decent goalkeeper. Someone who can push Kasper, then who knows Kasper might find himself on the bench? Thing is with Logan, he has sat on the bench for ten years without moaning and I doubt we could find another player who could do that... Not sure why Wood would leave. He has got a lot of decent attributes to become one of our main strikers imo.

The last thing we want to do is just buy certain players, or just to add to the squad. But then again I have total faith in Nige and I know he'd never be like that. His signings have been coy and astute at times, long may that continue.

If we manage to go up there will have to be quite a lot of honest sole searching by the management.

Do you reward all the players who got you there or are you completely ruthless.

For eg;

Can Nugent still hack it at the top level?

Is Dyer's pace going to be enough?

Are we going to try and play 4-4-2? If not we probably need players who can play other formations?

Will all the players out of contract want to stay on?

All fascinating but there's still work to be done to get across the line.

Danns, St Ledger and Waghorn, are all out of contract. As are Phillips and GTF. Obviously there are a few players out of contract who will probably get new contracts( Schmiechel and Nugent). I hope we keep Wood as he is an excellent striker who has just been unlucky this season. I remember at Watford away he was excellent, but then couldn't keep his starting spot because he had to fly out to play for New Zealand on the day of the Forest game!

I hope we actually prioritise giving new contracts to the likes of De Laet, James, Drinkwater, Moore, King and Vardy. As I believe they are the core players of the squad and because they will only have a year left after this summer.

Posted

I think we may well keep Ignasi Miquel. He's out of contract at Arsenal this summer. I know we have not seen much of him yet, but I believe he could be an excellent central defender of Premiership quality, given the chance.

I would see Wes, Was, Liam, Iggy and one new quality centre half for next season, plus De Laet and Konch, maybe Cresswell with Jeff cover all over the pitch.

Most clubs have three goalkeepers, so Kasper, new one, and Logan.

Three wingers is enough, especially with Jeff in the squad. Drinky, James, King + two new quality players in midfield.

Vardy, Nugent, Wood plus two new strikers.

Total 25.

So I reckon on the shopping list, one goalkeeper, one central defender, one left back, two midfield and two strikers.

At least make an effort. I am definitely not a stickler for grammar or accuracy by any means but the OP is almost unreadable to me.

Would King (and Logan) be classed as academy players, also, since they came through our youth setup?

I'd want us to keep GTF (and Philips as player-coach) and bring a top-class prem striker in so our strike options are Vardy/Nuge/A.N.Other/GTF/Wood(/Phillips)

Midfield would again need someone to solidify the middle, and I could see Hammond possibly making way if needs be. Mahrez/Knocky/Dyer out wide, then James/Drinky/King/A.N.Other in the center

Defense is where we'd need the most signings imo. First choice for me atm would be Schlupp/Morgan/Was/RDL. In the prem, I can see Morgan being swapped out for Moore, then keep Konch as LB cover. We'd need another RB for cover/replacing RDL, and another CB would be useful.

Keeper we'd keep Kasper and bring in another for cover.

Forgetting any rules about academy players, that'd make our squad 20/21 players strong, the I'd expect us to sign some utility players who could fit in anywhere. A striker/CAM option, a Winger/FullBack or Winger/CM and a defender who can play across the back line. Miquel could well take up that final spot in the 25.

Your allowed as many players as you want under the age of 21.

They must be under the age of 21 before the 1st January that season.

Therefore Moore and Schlupp would not be eligible but future signings may be
