Leicester City v Yeovil Town Post Match Thread 1 - 1

Very frustrating evening all round but somehow managed to keep our unbeaten run going!

Dont get me wrong, i'd take 2nd ALL day normally but having been top since Boxing day, i'm disappointed that we're making hard work of it now. Hopefully we can improve come Saturday.

Obviously after Saturday, we play twice before Burnley play again so massive opportunity to really pull away and put some pressure on them plus they face Watford away next Saturday which will be tough

I said before the match that last night was the night to make some changes to freshen things up. Due to the amount of matches in this division, especially at this time of year, it's just not possible to play the same 11 match after match without your performance taking a hit. A criticism I had of NP last season was the fact he wasn't great at predicting when this inevitable tired and lacklustre performance was going to be.

No disrespect to Yeovil, but it's an ideal match to make some changes with two very tough away games coming up.

I'd personally like to see Moore back in for Wasyl, Wood for Nugent and Dyer for Mahrez. I'd fancy Dyer up against Baird, if Trippier isn't fit.

If Wood starts at Burnley we'll lose. He was absolutely useless other than his goal.

Why do we start oofing it up to wood when he comes on? Never wins a header and plays so much better on the ground!

We were absolutely awful last night.

I don't think it was tiredness, I don't think it was luck, I don't even think it was Yeovil forcing the issue. There was just something that wasn't right and the tone was set when, just as we parked up, we heard Stringer chuntering away about how Leicester should beat a poor Yeovil side comprehensively, how Vardy or Nugent may reach 20 goals that night (one would have needed to score 4, the other would have needed 3) and talk of 7-0...

Yeovil have had some decent results recently, against some decent sides and we could ill-afford the sort of complacency that we showed last night (be it conscious or sub-conscious).

In the first half we just seemed to be playing at a very casual pace. The game had slowed to a manageable pace for Yeovil and we were taking our time over everything, failing to exploit spaces which rarely opened up and forgetting that our season has been built on clinical pace. Add in bad misses by Vardy and Mahrez and you could see the game taking shape in a very frustrating manner.

So 1-0 down. A poor tackle from Drinkwater costs us and from that point onwards his head was down and he moped about the pitch. He's been great this year but that was the Drinkwater of old and there didn't seem to be the desire there from him to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and make something happen. He's so essential to the way we play that it really affected us to have him missing from the game.

"We've been here before" you're thinking... "Nige will sort them for the second half" you're hoping... But, my word, it just got worse! Simple mistakes, sloppy passing, a lack of urgency. We were dire!

Credit to Pearson for trying to change the game and go for it but unfortunately it didn't work. We moved to a back 3 but, despite Yeovil only having Miller up top, James and Drinkwater were just dropping so deep to get the ball. When they did get the ball we had 5 players in our own half (De Laet, Morgan, Schlupp, James and Drinkwater) who were looking to find a pass into the Yeovil half where there were our remaining 5 outfield players being marked by 9 Yeovil men!

It took someone with balls and the conviction to get the ball and beat a man to open some space up. Mahrez tried but had a poor night but Dyer and Knockaert managed to start doing this in the last 15-20 minutes. Hey presto! We start to fashion openings. From the amount of efforts we had and possession and corners you'd suspect that we deserved that point. We didn't.

Fingers crossed this is the worst we get this season. You'd hope that Burnley will be a big enough fixture to ensure there is no more complacency.

What happened?

johnson not happy with the goal pushed stowell then shakes pushed johnson then fists were thrown about 4th ref step in cool it down but it looks like a fine and ban for shakes nigel will be back on the line if shakes get bans

Yeovil came with a plan and it worked, but in saying that we were poor, surely we are allowed some poor performances in a season.

Lets not also forget, I know Yeovil are near the bottom but in the last few weeks have picked up points at Wigan in a 3-3 draw ran QPR close and played out a 3-3 draw at Reading when they finished with only 8 men.

I think the players had one eye on the burnley game and thought last night was going to be a stroll in the park. Could be a bit of a kick up the backside to take each game as it comes.

Because you'd naturally expect someone of his height and physique to be good in the air.

We've got no dominant striker in the air. It's always going to be a struggle when teams do anything to stop us playing.

Wood is a decent finisher but technically he's not great. Just becasue he's tall doesn't mean he's a 'target man'. Crazy assumption to make, most of his goals come from him getting beyond defenders and finishing, not towering Steve Howard type headers.

Why did we not deserve a point? Just because we were not playing particularly well does not mean we didn't deserve to get a point or even three out of it. We created far more attacking opportunities and should have been a couple up before they scored (from another set piece). Again in the second half we created far more openings, not many particularly clear ones, but we still offered more than Yeovil.

People credit Yeovil for playing well, they didn't really did they? Seemingly people think they played well because they stopped up playing, but yesterday that was mostly self inflicted with shit passing than anything they did.

I can't remember Yeovil stringing more than 4 consecutive passes together. They did defend very well though.

Some people from the match thread really need to take a look at themselves...

I want names....

If Wood starts at Burnley, we'll lose. How does that work?

If Wood starts at Burnley, we will be significantly weaker going forward and will be put on the backfoot as a result.

I want it to work for him here, but despite his goal last night, I'm struggling to see what he actually adds to the team.

He can finish, but other than that - I'm struggling to see what else he can do. Nugent starts for me and that's despite his recent form (which has also been below par).

I'd say our shit passing and finishing contrived to make their defending look better than it probably was. We got the minimum we deserved, the way people talk you'd think Yeovil hammered us and we performed some kind of smash and grab.

The old "all a striker does is score goals" chestnut.

Grow up he did what he came on to do.

Fair point but their centre half (Duffy I think) won everything and put in a brilliant block late on. First time I've seen Vardy completely anonymous in a game too so fair play.

I agree though, Yeovil didn't play well and we should have won with the chances we created. I also think we deserved a penalty when Vardy was barged over in the box first half. Our passing was atrocious, but we weren't 'lucky' to get a draw.

That old chestnut indeed. It isn't bullshit and it never has been.

I'd also say the one on Dyer was a penalty in the second half, on both occasions the defender slammed into our attacker with no interest of getting the ball.

Potentially yes. Vardy's was more clear cut in my opinion. It was a typical ref decision- ball was miles away so he doesn't deem it worthy. It was a blatant foul in the box though. Should have been a pen
