ozleicester Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Apart from the desire to win every time they play (which you have to have to reach the top level), Apart from the bonus that im sure many players have in their contract for winning the league. Apart from the pressure to perform to retain their place in the squad for next year. apart from all that... there is also..... Im pretty sure he cares...and im pretty sure he will make that very VERY clear to the players. Going up as champions and with the momentum of winning will be an important part of surviving next year.
nickm Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 I'd have settled for play-offs at the start of the season-i'm more than happy to just get promoted-ask the qpr fans if they'd change places with us!
Socks Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Yes I do Tonight was the aftermath of too much Coke and Booze and we all know it takes a good Couple of days to recover from that
OzFox Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 We should definitely care about winning the League. This would be our 7th league title at this level and we would equal Manchester City's record if we win it. And let's face it, we're more likely than they are to win it for an 8th time at some point in the future. The last time we won this division was in 1980, so you have to be in your forties to remember it. I do remember it. Winning the title would become part of the history of the club and part of the heritage which future fans will inherit. We will never win the Premier League and I'm sure no-one wants to see us back in the Third Division winning that one, so this is the only league we can win. Don't underestimate its importance. Yep. I want to see that 7th trophy in the cabinet. Win it with style and take that form & confidence into the premier league. Would be a shame to tarnish such a fantastic season with a few below par performances at the end of it. I expect Nige is kicking a few people up the arse today so hopefully there'll be an improvement on Monday
Callabinho Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 As far as I'm aware there is a £20 million difference between finishing 1st to 2nd, I'm not a 100% sure on that but if this is the case we need to win it. Nigel's team selection was ignorant last night, there was no way we would stand a chance of winning with that line up. I'm still livid.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 We are not the first team to secure promotion and have and absolute nightmare performance the game after. They celebrated. They personally didn't prepare how they have all season. They played a decent team and got spanked. They've now got a week to sort themselves out which they will do and with the euphoria of promotion to one side the players know what they have to do. We will win this league (*fingers crossed*)

Webbo Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Do we want to win the league? Do I care about losing? Of course we fvcking do! Ridiculous questions.
Buzzell Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 This was a minor blip. We're promoted, we made a few changes, took our eyes off the ball and lost. The boys will realise the job is half done, Pearson will be letting them know that that performance is unacceptable and need to recover quickly with a better performance over Reading.
lgfualol Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 If we lose the champions trophy to Burnley I'm going to be gutted.

Fox92 Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Nige doesn't come across as someone who does half a job, and he said post match that he wants to finish the job. Let's not forget during his playing career he was a winner and captained teams to promotions and cup victories, and he isn't any different as a manager. The league's far from won though. With us not playing Saturday, we could go into Monday night at Reading (not an "easy" game) only three points ahead of Burnley.
goose2010 Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 I think everyone needs to calm down a little bit, it was a blip and I can't see NP standing for that performance and imagine they will be given hell this week. Think back two weeks or so the gap was only 3 points and we were playing Burnley, they didnt take top spot then as the players battered them in the own back yard. The gap now is 6 points with 15 to play for and 100 points is STILL on. Its been an incredible season and will continue to be one of the best in our clubs history. You cant blame the players for losing a bit of concentration you just have to looks at Bayern's last 3 games drawing two and losing their 21 game unbeaten run in the process. Burnley should confirm promotion Saturday and whats to say they wont do the same a week later? just calm down and lets recreate the last ten minutes of last night for the whole 90 minutes in our last two home games and last 3 away.

jimmeh Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 You get about 60K for winning the league and 30K for coming second.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 The players let themselves down yesterday, but I'm sure that they'll now get back on track until the end of the season. I can remember plenty of times where at that age I've had a few too many and suffered for a good few days after. I won't begrudge them that as a one off in return for so many great moments so far this season...
WhispyWizard Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 At the start of the season i wouldn't have cared, as i doubt anyone would have had us to be near the top after last season, but we have performed so well this season that it is our best opportunity to win it.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Burnleys last 3 games are Wigan, Ipswich and Reading, I am sure we will be fine and win the league by 6 or 7 points, I expect us to come roaring back to form v Reading. 6 points clear with 5 to play we have to be champions. Burnley will drop when they confirm promotion too. Which should be very soon.
Corky Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 Given they've been top since Boxing Day they are doing a poor impression of a side who wants to finish second.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 We've never had our name on that trophy, I for one want it there for every other Football League Champion to see.
weller54 Posted 9 April 2014 Posted 9 April 2014 If Burnley finish as champions then good on them, they would have deserved it!!..
