jimmeh Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 St ledger and danns out and upson and albrighton in. Wages probably the same I imagine!
Stuliasz Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 All the signs point towards Albrighton being a cracking signing, particularly on a free. A chap I work with who's a Villa season ticket holder reckons he was their second best player this season after Guzan. Has the ability to beat a man, with a good cross and the energy to keep running for everything over 90 minutes.
LCFCCKEANO Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Just going to say, he is a crosser, and did we not bid for Ulloa and go after another striker... Its already coming together (I hope) !
ElusiveEd Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Just what I'm loving about our set up right now. We have millions to spend and, unlike some clubs/managers/directors of football, (QPR, Cardiff, etc) we still look around for and sign freebies, and quality ones at that. The likes of the aforementioned clubs threw money around at a whim and had the arrogance to expect success and look what happened. NP etc, I believe are being VERY shrewd in their business and I applaud them for not jumping on this SPEND BIG mentality. Sure, only time will tell but if it does go tits up next season we won't have such a burden had we had waited and bought all high profile expensive players.
David Lowe Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I believe Albrighton is a good player who had gone a bit stale at Villa. I can see this move sparking him to life again.
Thracian Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 It's heartening to note that we overcame the interest of other Premiership clubs to win his signature. Shows that people within the game are becoming convinced about our intent and about the way we're going about it.
CKB Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Pleased with this! he's kinda an old fashioned winger, he's not slow but not quick either and he loves to put a good cross in.. Can't go wrong at all with this signing, on a free = no brainer
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 To be fair I posted almost as much the other day, found a great website with it all on. The warm summer evenings must just fly by..
MC Prussian Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Pleased with this! he's kinda an old fashioned winger, he's not slow but not quick either and he loves to put a good cross in.. Can't go wrong at all with this signing, on a free = no brainer Albrighton the new Guppy? It's been a while since we had somebody able to put a decent cross in from either flank.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Albrighton the new Guppy? It's been a while since we had somebody able to put a decent cross in from either flank. He's got a LONG way to go before he can emulate Guppy..
kingfox Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Bit surprised he has signed for four years. Too direct for my liking, and he has said himself he is a very direct player, he has always had potential but he hasn't quite lived up to it yet, hopefully Pearson can bring the best out of him. Get the best out of him, this will prove to be a very good signing.
Happy Fox Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 When he is on his game he is easily a Top 10 prem winger, but he needs to show that consistency which I think he will with us. But is crossing is top notch so no excuses for our strikers not to get on the end of them!
CKB Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Albrighton the new Guppy? It's been a while since we had somebody able to put a decent cross in from either flank. If Albrighton can have half the success Guppy had i'll be happy!
Captain... Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Another great bit of early business by Nigel, as I said with the Upson signing, this doesn't stop us going out and signing a real world beater later in the window, but it is a quality addition to the squad, especially if Lloyd does go. SSL, Whitbread, Danns, Waghorn, Taft, Phillips out Albrighton, Upson, Hamer, Barmby in That is serious improvement on the squad and we are probably still net positive terms of wages. The window hasn't even opened yet.
Hack Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I can around eight signings now. Pleased with this I think it will at least be 8 new players in. You have to consider the players leaving the current squad like Lloyd, St ledger Danns, Logan etc. so with 25 places to fill plus under 25's not counting you have to thing we will have a significant number of new players in.
Deucalion Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Not read through all this, so sorry if said before, but has anyone else spotted a striking similarity between Albrighton and former legend of legend Ian Ormondroyd? The Villa kit just completes the illusion.
Hack Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 He's not as quick as Dyer, let's not go overboard. But he can cross a ball!
Carlos88LCFC Posted 24 May 2014 Posted 24 May 2014 As someone mentioned before, he went a bit stale at Villa. Players like him will thrive on this challenge... He has a point to prove and a new set of fans to showcase his talent to.,. I for one am excited about this signing. Good early business in the market snapping up all the freebies. I still think the first game of next season has to be the team we put out last season and build on that! I can't see any of these boys we've signed so far walking into the starting 11 which is a good thing. We need to keep the foundations and the spine of the team in tact because when you start messing around too much you lose a lot of chemistry which I'm sure everyone (well most) agrees thats what won us the league. I still go by saying if we didn't sign anyone and kept the same team with the same subs and same management we would stay up!
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 24 May 2014 Posted 24 May 2014 Albrighton the new Guppy? It's been a while since we had somebody able to put a decent cross in from either flank. Give the lad a chance.
IdiotequeFox Posted 24 May 2014 Posted 24 May 2014 Mat Kendrick, Brum Mail says that we're doubling his wages and Lambert basically wouldn't be held to ransom and told him to eff off, that young lad Jack Grealish who played for Notts County on loan is more of a prospect, general consensus from Villa fans I know is that Albrighton is a talent but has disappointed and lost his way since Andreas Weimann took his place and MA wasn't worth the 30-35K a week he wanted and a text from my workmate saying 'Anyone who rated Albrighton for the last couple of seasons are deluded or are probably a twitter idiot who think they know how to run a football club'. Chance for him to put it right then, Dyer isn't getting any younger.

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 24 May 2014 Posted 24 May 2014 Pleased with this signing, looked very good a couple of seasons back, he is young and eager to get his career back on track, like it.
