Albrighton - confirmed transfer

Villa fans seem really hung up on the 35k wage, where has that been said on any official source?

To be honest his wage doesn't bother me as much as him having a relegation clause in his contract, I don't want us stuck saying that for 4 years if 3 of them are in the championship.

A quick calculation on wages, 35k a week is 1.8m a year, if we have a squad of 25 all on 35k a week, then our wage bill would be 45m, we will earn a minimum £63m in prize money and tv rights, so assuming the day to day running of the club is covered by ticket sales and sponsorship that would still leave us £18m to spend on transfer fees and still be in the black.

More likely we will have an average wage bill of around £25k which would be around £30m a year in wages leaving us £33m to spend on transfer fees if we wanted.

It's just gossip. I doubt anybody has a clue what albrighton will earn. Footballers dont just get a weekly wage like the rest of us anyway. Contracts are tied up with payments/deductions relating to signing-on fees, bonuses, appearences, goal bonuses maybe, sell on clauses, relegation clauses, media duties, club function duties, club merchandising, match day sponsorship, insurance, injuries, etc etc etc.

Albrighton himself probably doesn't know how this will translate into a weekly wage.

Another great bit of early business by Nigel, as I said with the Upson signing, this doesn't stop us going out and signing a real world beater later in the window, but it is a quality addition to the squad, especially if Lloyd does go.

SSL, Whitbread, Danns, Waghorn, Taft, Phillips out

Albrighton, Upson, Hamer, Barmby in

That is serious improvement on the squad and we are probably still net positive terms of wages.

The window hasn't even opened yet.

perfect way to summarise it. our squad has improved massively already and probably saved on wages. Really intrigued to see what we do when the window opens

Genuinely haven't been as excited about a signing since we signed Howard/Oakley. Can't believe we've pulled this off to be honest, very good player.

Surely we are not paying him the 40k a week rumoured by the Villa fans!

Very very poor player, shades of Ben Marshall for me the odd good game followed by 6-7 average and poor games.

Our transfers so far are poor.

Upson, Morgan Was Moore Delait, premiership strikers wil have a field day.

I'm genuinely disappointed, could it be NP can't get better players to sign for us?

I hope I'm wrong

Great signing, a few years ago he was one of the most promising players in the league but a few injuries have halted his progress. He's a skillful player and very direct, and always has a good delivery into the box. His work rate is unbelievable too, I view his as a better version of Lloyd dyer. Excellent player.

No, that's their way of trying to rationalise the fact one of their best players last season has just jumped ship, to what they would consider an inferior club.

All this 35k stuff comes from one West Mids journo, the merc has said the figures quoted are way off. John Percy has said we have a 30k wage cap. Can't remember if it was a city fan or a villa fan who said they knew his family and he wasn't getting that much.

Best thing to do is ignore the lot of them and say, do we think Pearson would spend 35/40k a week on him... I come to the conclusion that he wouldn't in a million years.

Just what I'm loving about our set up right now. We have millions to spend and, unlike some clubs/managers/directors of football, (QPR, Cardiff, etc) we still look around for and sign freebies, and quality ones at that.

The likes of the aforementioned clubs threw money around at a whim and had the arrogance to expect success and look what happened.

NP etc, I believe are being VERY shrewd in their business and I applaud them for not jumping on this SPEND BIG mentality.

Sure, only time will tell but if it does go tits up next season we won't have such a burden had we had waited and bought all high profile expensive players.

I'm not saying this is going to happen at all (the transfer window hasn't even opened yet), but Derby went up to the Prem one season and wrangled in the free market almost refusing to open their wallets, spending next to nothing...they broke a few records that season.

just saying...

I had Albrighton in my fantasy football team a few years ago when he was under O'Neil - cheap as chips and goals and assists a plenty - I won our mini-league that year.

He has fantastic ability on his day but has blown hot and cold in seasons since - as his spell at Wigan arguably demonstrates he'd benefit from a fresh start - a young player with a point to prove.

Come to think of it, this is reminiscent of a MON signing.....

Young player, lots to prove with a manager where youngsters are given a chance and seem to thrive, plus a genuine right winger, all for no transfer fee.

Another seemly sensible and promising move from the management team.

Quality signing.

We hope..

It's heartening to note that we overcame the interest of other Premiership clubs to win his signature. Shows that people within the game are becoming convinced about our intent and about the way we're going about it.

We don't know that for certain. If it came from his agent, so could be BS. It's not implausible though, I'll give you that.

I am pleased with this addition as we needed another winger. Albrighton, is a good winger he was excellent for Villa in the 2010/11 season and hope he can replicate that form for us. He's good technically and can deliver a good cross and will be a good replacement for Lloyd Dyer.

Here I'll help you to your point. Pearson OUT. Saved you a few keystrokes.
