Oscar Cardozo

Sounds like it might be more a case of Cardozo wanting a move or a contract extension (as he is 31, has had recent injuries, spent half the 13/14 season on the bench and doesn't have long left on his contract, apparently)...maybe Benfica wanting rid, too. The more that I read, the less this sounds like a Pearson signing - and the more I prefer the prospect of Ulloa. Maybe I'll be wrong and Cardozo will be parading in blue with NP tomorrow!

Portuguese sports web site (today):

Translation:

"Oscar Cardozo presenting himself at Benfica training ground tomorrow, but could still leave

Pedro Aldave, the representative of the Paraguayan player Oscar Cardozo today revealed that the striker will present himself tomorrow at Benfica's Seixal training complex for the first day of Benfica's 2014/15 season.

However, his stay with the Reds is still no fait accompli, as there are clubs interested in "Big Cane" ( lol *) and if the bids are good for the player and for the club, there will be news.

In statements made to the Antena 1 radio station, Aldave commented that 'leaving is an option until the end of August, but I still can't talk about anyone specific; on the other hand, there is the option to stay at Benfica; I know nothing. I still have to talk to Cardozo'.

'We are all quite calm, as Cardozo has a contract so he isn't going to end up without a club, whether it is in Portugal or in England. Let us see what develops over the coming days', Aldave added.

Readers will recall that Leicester City has been mentioned as Cardozo's next club; however, Benfica admit that no official bid whatever has yet been received at the Stadium of Light**".

* Some would translate "Tacuara" as "Bamboo", but others use "Big Cane", which is better, surely!?

** Pedantry corner: Lisbon's ground should really translate as "Luz Stadium" as it is named after a district of Lisbon called Luz (which means "light")....or should "Liverpool" in French be "Piscine de Foie"?! lol

Berty, is this transfer happening?!

It doesn't take Bert to work out this isn't happening.

Always referred to as the stadium of light in English.

Rob tanner says no,

@RobTannerMerc: @BlueFox_LCFC am told not.

Thanks for sharing this mate; I just don't get his agent's fixation with us if it isn't true?

As much as I would love him here, I think Ulloa is the one to go for. The more I think about it, the more I genuinely want it to happen.

I'm aware of that. That's why I used "Stadium of Light" in my translation and prefaced that comment with the words "Pedantry Corner", among other things.

The comment was intended to be a bit of tongue-in-cheek silliness, not a serious suggestion that everyone should start calling Benfica's ground "Luz Stadium" now.....they should have done that in the first place!

Thanks for sharing your wisdom and knowledge, though.

Saw him again today in town, enquiring about when the King Richard III visitor centre was going to be open.

I hope you promptly pointed him in the direction of a Council car park?

No worries mate I try to help as much as I can when I see info from the right sources :) I can't see this happening myself either tbh

Was he wearing an Algeria shirt with Mahrez on the back ?

I'm sure because he comes over as quite a classy player; he would have been parading around in one of those 'LES-TAH' shirts...

There all the craze now with people apparently.

I've had time to reconsider this. Been thinking about Ricky Van Wolfswinkel and his move to Norwich. He seemed to be pretty well know to English fans and was for whatever reason rated and they generally thought it was a strong signing. Cardozo seems to be similarly rated due to a solid scoring record for Benfica (and being a ledge on FM). Their fans don't seem to bothered though, could he have gone off the boil in the last couple of years and could he be a similar signing to RVW?
