Turnout was awful.

I don't think too much can be read into all this other than labour are very strong in London.

And that the Lib Dem position on the EU is not relevant

UKIP are too busy counting votes to be counting braincells.

Go and read the Guardian pal

I will, thanks, enjoy your bank holiday :thumbsup:

Over 60% didn't vote, so its your fault the inbred racist dummies had their voices heard. Well that and the BBC's love of giving them all the air time earning them supporters.

Not a UKIP voter but am more than aware of the media and 'big 3's' or should I say 'big 2's' now that the Lib Dems have largely been obliterated, smear campaign against UKIP that tries to present this at every opportunity they can get, but i'll ask, what have UKIP actually done to warrant such a label in your opinion?

Not too bad for the Tories,Labour should really be doing better. Gives me hope that the Tories will still be the biggest party after the election.

Agree with the last sentence, as for the labour bit, the worse they do the happier I become!

lol lol

Despite at every opportunity saying he won't work with them BBC desperately trying to link UKIP with the NF in a way even Buce would blush at.

I note the collapse in the BNP vote; I wonder where those votes went to...

UKIP have polled 30% on a 33% turnout, with 50% of those who voted for UKIP saying they more than likely wouldn't in a General Election...Not sure it's the earthquake we are led to be believe.

Given that only 65% only turned out for the general election last time round, its just over half of the turnout. UKIP will lose voters for the general, maybe half and if they don't pick up any new voters that would put them at around 8%. Given that the SNP were fourth last time out on 1.7% that would still be quite a remarkable surge and I am sure farage and Ukip would be delighted.

To be fair, for a strong leadership you need a strong challenger pushing them all the way. Politics for all parties most definately including the Tories is a shambles at present IMO

All three leaders look so so weak, the lib Dems have to change now or they won't have a party left.

Google ukip 2010 manifesto, and see for yourself.

 Just did, no mention of maternity leave or rape in it. The key phrase in that poster is "policies proposed by UKIP and its candidates" - meaning they've picked up stuff said in interviews by crazy nutters like Roger Helmer. Equally, you could produce a Labour version that said they wanted to ban page 3 or flood Britain with bug infested mangoes or a Conservative version that stated they wanted to change the name of table tennis to Whiff-Whaff.

The aircraft carrier bit is interesting too - the manifesto stated they wanted to return the Navy to 2010 levels, which is 3 small aircraft carriers - since then, the governments (Labour and Conservative) have actually built 2 massive aircraft carriers which dwarf every other ship we've built for 40 odd years, so the UKIP policy is hardly a massive deviation from the status quo there.

I didn't vote at all in the election because once I looked at the candidate list it was quite obvious that there wasn't a single one worthy of voting for. UKIP have picked up big support, but if the major parties want to combat them and win back votes, it would be nice to see the electorate treated like adults by being given reasonable well argued information from parties, instead of all the scaremongering over simplified bollocks that we get from parties of all colours these days.

To be fair, mate, I agree with most of that. I don't buy into propaganda, wherever it comes from. I was trying to encourage the poster to make up his mind after reading the facts, rather than seeking answers from people who are possibly no better informed than himself.

Here's my UK predictions, so that I can look an idiot in the morning (% of national vote & number of seats, with 2009 results on left and my prediction on right in each case):

UKIP 16.5%-> 28% / 13 -> 24 seats

Con 28% -> 22% / 26 -> 19 seats

Lab 16% -> 26% / 13 -> 19 seats

Lib Dems 14% -> 7% / 11 -> 1 seat

Greens 8.5% -> 7% / 2 -> 3 seats

SNP 2% -> 2.5% / 2 -> 3 seats

Plaid 1% -> 1% / 1 -> 1 seat

N.Ireland: 1 DUP, 1 SF, 1 UUP, as before

For the East Midlands, I'd expect it to be 2 UKIP, 2 Tory & 1 Labour, with an outside chance of Tory & Labour being reversed if UKIP swipe Tory votes disproportionately. That might happen to some extent, I think, as I can imagine a lot of Eurosceptic Tories having stayed loyal for the local elections, but gone UKIP for the Euros. I'd expect the Lib Dems to lose their 1 local MEP.

You were nearly bang on with this.

UKIP 27%

Cons 24%

Lab 25%

My ego is glad that you noticed, Baltimore!

Now, far be it from me to blow my own trumpet :trumpet:  :trumpet:  :ph34r: but I reckon the seats prediction is even more impressive.

Predicted: UKIP 24, Lab 19, Con 19, Green 3, Lib Dems 1, SNP 3, Plaid 1, N. Ireland 3

Actual: UKIP 24, Lab 20, Con 19, Green 3, Lib Dems 1, SNP 2, Plaid 1, N. Ireland 3

Just send a brown envelope containing £100 in used notes, addressed to "Mystic Alf, c/o Foxes Talk" and I'll send you next weekend's winning lottery numbers.  :whistle:

Not a penny more than £50...

Would this be the same Roger Helmer who is the Energy and Industry spokesman for UKIP? And the same Roger Helmer who is fighting the soon to happen Newark by-election?

One of the reasons why UKIP did so well. Morons like you shouting racist at anybody who isn't a Guardian reading socialist.

Edit: The Danish People's Party did very well. I'm sure you think they are worse than Hitler from this statement:

goals is to protect the freedom and cultural heritage of the Danish people, including the family, the Monarchy and the Church of Denmark, to enforce a strict rule of law, to work against Denmark becoming a multi-ethnic society by limiting immigration and promoting cultural assimilation of admitted immigrants, to maintain a strong welfare system for those in need, and to promote entrepreneurship and economic growth by strengthening education and encouraging people to work, and to protect the environment and natural resources.

Surely not? It's a common enough name...

The people have spoken. We don't want to be in Europe, to be dictated by other countries as to what we can or cannot do. This pathetic situation has to end. Roll on a referendum.

Immigration needs to be capped asap. The official figures that have just been released show that after emigration has been taken into account, we have had.212,000 immigrants in 2013. The real figure, as we all know,  will be considerably higher. It's a bloody disgrace, and both the Tories, and Labour have not succeeded in doing anything to stop this happening.

UKIP is a breath of fresh air in politics, and I feel sure they will build on their success

The right have been been successful in number of other member countries, which is good imo. ( not keen on the far right, who have had a fair success.

Well done Nigel Farage, and well done to all those who voted  for UKIP.  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:  :englandsmile4wf:

The last time there was a global recession followed by a political resurgence of the far right (not saying all of the successful parties in these elections are far right but some certainly are) in Europe, things ended a little bit badly. If I recall correctly.
