Xen Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 According to the reports NP was on £750.000 a year, by getting promotion he triggered a £1M bonus so last years earning was £1.75M. Surely £3M is reasonable to manage in the premier league as long as some of it is a bonus for staying up? e.g. £1.5M salary & £1.5M bonus for staying up. Exactly what I was going to suggest. Another year in the prem nets us as a club another year of TV money (around 60m) so a high bonus like that would be insignificant in comparison, but still a lot for NP. If it's a long contract 3/4+ years, I can see there being a complicated bonus structure to pad out the deal, which is probably what's holding this up. Something like 1.5+1.5 in the first year, then 1.5+1 in the second year with an additional 1m for top half, etc...
Bellend Sebastian Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Those walking holidays don't buy themselves you know
muzzy1981 Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 One thing is for sure, is that Nige needs to be earning more than the highest earning player at the club. I know that isn't always the case in football but that doesn't make it right.
Houdini Logic Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Those walking holidays don't buy themselves you know And add on top of that the price of a daily crew cut. I think £3m is justified
DennisNedry Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 This is utter bollocks. If Nige ever did demand this, then he should be shown the door quite honestly.
Corky Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 This is totally unlike Pearson, could you imagine him reacting to a player who wanted to quadruple his wages in one go? Given his commitment to getting the club in line with regulations, I doubt he'd want £60k a week himself.

Think you may find it is never the case
Kitchandro Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 If this is true, which the jury is out on, 3 million is to much, but I'm with ric on this, double his wages to 1.5 mill, and I would have no issue with giving him the other 1.5 in a bonus to keep us up. Pearson is un proven in the top flight, and not saying he is going to fail, and I hope he doesn't, but if it doesn't work out, and we have to replace him, 3 mill a year, on say a 3 year deal would mean potentially 9 million in compensation if he was dismissed. So for me the safer option would be lower pay and big bonuses. Maybe the answer to that is not to sack him just because we're having a rough patch.
Thracian Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Pay the man as many pound notes as are required. A sure sign you're not paying the bills!
Cat Burger Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 A sure sign you're not paying the bills! Nope. Although there has been some confusion about my real identity, I'm not Vichai, sorry to disappoint you.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 No one would pay Pearson that silly money. He may be good, but not that good.
Monsell1976 Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Maybe the answer to that is not to sack him just because we're having a rough patch.I'm not saying sacking because of a rough patch, I am expecting a very tough season ahead, but if worst case, just say we have no points on the board by Christmas, it would be hard for the owners to resist.Like I say I don't see this happening for a second( before my words are twisted), but the owners will have the eventuality in the back of their minds, and if it doesn't work, a manager on 3 million a year, over 3 years would be a lot of money to throw away, should they need to part company with Pearson, but if half the 3 mill was in bonuses, it would only cost 4.5 mill rather than 9mill. Pearson has done a great job last season, and we all fully expect him to do well again, but this is new ground for all involved and nobody knows how things will play out.
Thracian Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Can't imagine the delay in signing his contract will do anything to speed up our recruitment. How long does it take to agree a contract nowadays!
Dickov22 Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Well that's a load of fvcking bullshit given that both Nigel AND the owners said they never considered replacing him. Trash. Except they did. They offered his job to Harry Redknapp before he joined QPR. Susan Whelan admitted it to him.
Guest MattP Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 This is why we should have been wrapping this up at xmas. 3million a year is a lot, but then again when you have done the job Pearson has considered what he took over and where we are now, it's hard to argue he doesn't deserve it. I don;t think it's an overtstatement to say he has saved this football club considering the financial ruin we were looking out when Sven left.
StanSP Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Except they did. They offered his job to Harry Redknapp before he joined QPR. Susan Whelan admitted it to him. Got any proof?
StanSP Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 You've already shared the Susan Whelan bit . Or was that common knowledge?

Don't think he alone saved the financial side of the club, yes he was careful who and how much players came in for, but the finances are run by the owners, who I believe wised up a lot, and brought terry in to oversee expenditure.I have to agree it's hard not to give him the money, but as I said earlier in bonuses rather than pay, performance related pay is better for the club.
Dr The Singh Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Steve Kean and Avram Grant would do it for half that amount!! Get them in Top!!!!
Webbo Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 If it is true I don't have a problem with it. The manager should be paid more than the players, it maintains respect.
