MPH Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 There was a young lad all set to sign was at the airport waiting for his plane and everything. Called Marco Gentile. We got wind that a third party was going to benefit from the deal. Sounded proper dodgy, apparently, so we pulled the plug. The lad was gutted. Think it was in the Mark Mcgee era...
Leicesterpool Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Didn't we have Malcolm Christie on trial from Nunny but MON didn't fancy him? Did well before injuries ruined his career. That one is true it's in fact mentioned one of the past boro programmes I've got from 1999. It confirms Malcolm went on a trial with leicester but was unfortunately unsuccessful. Not so long later he of course signed for Derby and did very well of course later moving onto Middlesbrough from then on he suffered no end of injuries. To be honest I don't think Leicester missed out much on this one.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Don't know if anyone's mentioned him but Bryan Hughes - signed him, announced it, then realised we had a transfer embargo!
Father Ted Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Dusan Basta was the 3rd trialist when we had the 2 Hungarians here under Holloway. Mandaric wouldn't pay the £2 million asking price though. Now he's at Udinese.
Jace Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Craig Mackail-Smith - turned up to sign and left when Sven didn't know who he was
Jam Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 David Beckham. If we were in the prem it may of happened if only a loan spell. David and Sven had a close if not worrying relationship
docho66 Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Looking back, I think the most ridiculous would have to be Beckham and Cruyff!
Unabomber Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 The other year a little known Scottish outfit....called Texas were going to play at half time.
Collymore Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/70687-michael-owen/
Brooksy Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Curtis Davies. He's been en route to join Svens revolution for a while now.
Poiseuille Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Robbie Keane before New York Red Bulls swooped in (Sven era)? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Leicesterpool Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Wonder how David Beckham and Nigel Pearson would have got on, if Sven had have pulled off the signing.
Walshy5 Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Didnt O'Neil try to sign Seth Johnson aswell? Could be wrong.
Turtles Head Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Woah, go steady. Anytime i mention this my post disappears into a black hole .....and not in a racist way. They're happy to see him, he's welcome, cos he's famous.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Carl Cort (Taylor- or was it Jason Euell?) ...And then we did go and sign him when he was at his prolific, athletic best.
gregdj Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 it has been said earlier in this thread, but I remember listening to Radio Leicester on my way home from work circa 1980 when they announced that Johan Cruyff had signed, apparently it had all been facilitated by the owner of the Costa Brave Restaurant. At the game on the following Saturday, when by then it was obvious that he wasn't signing, just after a young Kevin McDonald made a mistake, my mate said to me, "****ing Cruyff would have nailed that"
RizLCFC Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Nigel Reo-Coker before he moved to West Ham. Whatever happened to that Yildiriy Basturk transfer?
