ScouseFox Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 just seems a bit pointless. i like fryatt but removing sentiment he's not as good as nuge or vardy imo. he's not as good a hassler and doesn't have the pace of vardy and like vardy needs a lot of chances to bag more often than not. he'd not fit into the nugent role as i don't believe he's anywhere near as good or intelligent at bringing others into play, getting double figure assists and the like. he's not got the touch of hold up play off the bench of gtf and wood is a different player altogether as well as being a lot younger. a fifth striker needs to be one who's better than these 4 imo or at least on the same level, not one who's just here to make up the numbers.
Greatness_Since_1884 Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Oh dear Provided that new striker is a player of quality, probably a strong physical guy judging by reported targets, I think it would be a good mix
Leeds_Fox95 Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 No thanks, championship player at best A championship player who's done well in the premier league when he's been called upon? Not scored massive amounts in the league but he's chipped in, he's made a better fist of the step up than I thought he would. Just makes me even more excited to see how Vardy gets on. Marky mark Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 This would be one of the most uninspiring signings in years - big step backwards
Tuna Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Nugent/Vardy/Wood/Fryatt/NEW ST I'd be happy with that. With Hopper and probably GTF going on loan to Championship, recalled if needed Good grief, its a good job you are not our manager. Populating our squad with players of this quality is a one way ticket back to the Championship. We are premier league now and with that comes massive pulling power. We need to set the bar high and bring in top quality. Our marquee signing should be a striker of genuine class; we do not need backup players we already have them.

Our marquee signing should be a striker of genuine class; we do not need backup players we already have them. Any striker of genuine class could cost in the region of £15mil+ and I'm not sure Pearson will spend that much on one player, particularly in our first season back. Secondly, those strikers of genuine class tend to be touted by most Premiership clubs, most of which have more attraction than we do at present and are probably able to offer higher wages. Whilst I agree that Fryatt is probably a backward step, signing a marque striker may prove more difficult to accomplish. I hope that the scouting network can unearth a potential gem like Knockaert or Mahrez. But it can be more difficult for a striker to be an instant hit when they are judged on how many goals they score. Knockaert and Mahrez are judged on the chances they create.
dayday Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Just out of interest where would Fryatt fit in our new look formation?

Yes we are now a premiership club but that matters not one jot to the rest of the prem and not much more to agents. " massive pulling power " what a laugh. You need to get real , you can set your bar as high as you want but it's getting the players to come here that is the most difficult thing. Be happy to survive the first season because that's exactly what Pearson and the owners are aiming for.
Guest ttfn Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Just out of interest where would Fryatt fit in our new look formation? Probably up front
gibbin82 Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 The club has got to where it is now after the dark days of Sven by buying players with something to prove, from the majority of comments on this thread Fryatt fits right into that bracket. Anyway 'IF' Nigel decides that Fryatt is a worthwhile addition to the squad I would rather trust his judgement than not, it's been quite successful up to now, and even if we have reservations we should still get behind them to give Nigel and his players the respect they deserve.
jock2612 Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 This would NOT make the squad better.I would question NP judgement if this were to happen.

Did you miss the part where I said New Striker as well? I actually agree, those 4 plus a significant investment into a player capable of leading our line in the PL would be capable IMO
Leeds_Fox95 Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 This would NOT make the squad better.I would question NP judgement if this were to happen. Bit drastic to question his judgement on one player considering some of the other absolute GEMS he's got for us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Micky Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 I would be absolutely delighted if Fryatt came in and scored 6/7 goals.
Unabomber Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 I would be absolutely delighted if Fryatt came in and scored 6/7 goals. Same that would be a decent return, especially if he wasn't starting.
Happy Fox Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 We don't need back ups we need someone who is better than Nugent/ Vardy, that should be our goal surely. We have enough back up players, need to bring in some real quality upfront.
Finnaldo Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 We don't need back ups we need someone who is better than Nugent/ Vardy, that should be our goal surely. We have enough back up players, need to bring in some real quality upfront. It depends who leaves.
Legend_in_blue Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 We just need to bite the bullet and spend big money on a striker, even if it means paying over the odds imo. Rather that and take a risk, than go with flat feet Fryatt.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 Would be disappointed if he came back, we can do better... sorry folks
Haydos Posted 31 May 2014 Posted 31 May 2014 If true, and even I can't see Pearson being this stupid after the success last season, it would suggest he is struggling to build a team for the Premiership. Would it though? Perfectly simple explanation could be just a replacement for Nugent whle we're still to bring in a top target. Wouldn't be that crazy.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Said it many times... Fryatt is a clever player. Mentally, he reads the game very well, and instinctively knows where to be in the box. Unfortunately, he has little pace. If he was quick, he'd be a top striker IMO. As a squad player.. maybe but to start? Nah
Walshy5 Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 The more i see this the more i think he could be lined up as a replacement for nugent seeing as contract talks with him have hit the buffers. Im not nugents biggest fan but id sooner keep hold of him than get fatty fryup back. Average championship striker at best! Need to be aiming much higher now.
