Voll Blau Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 The England Band’s run of playing at every World Cup since 1998 appears to be over after the Football Association failed to convince World Cup organisers to lift a ban on instruments at this summer’s matches. Members of the Three Lions’ official supporters’ band had been hoping to gain an exemption from the prohibition that has been placed on all musical instruments inside stadiums in Brazil. However, Telegraph Sport has learnt that, despite representations from the FA to Fifa, the Sheffield-based brass band has been refused permission to play at England games, ending its run of major tournaments in which the country has featured dating back to France 98. There are likely to be few tears shed over the ban amid what appears the growing unpopularity of the England Band in recent years. Indeed, when news first emerged in December that it was facing being unable to play at the country’s matches in Brazil, the social-media reaction was overwhelmingly positive. The band also lost its sponsor of eight years, Pukka Pies, in January following eight years of backing that helped pay for it to play at major tournaments. Despite this, eight members of the band have committed £40,000 to travel to Brazil for England’s Group D matches, determined to test whether the ban ends up being enforced. At the European Championship two years ago the band was denied entry to England’s opening game against France but, following lobbying from the FA, it attended all the nation’s remaining matches. Despite the FA’s failure to achieve a similar outcome this time, band leader John Hemmingham is refusing to give up hope of “shaming†the Brazilians into giving him and his colleagues special dispensation to play. He plans to make representations to Britain’s ambassador to Brazil, as well as tournament organisers, in the coming days. “We’ll try everything possible,†he said, rejecting criticism of the band by insisting it “galvanises†England supporters and “inspires†their players. It is not only the England Band which faces disappointment in Brazil, with samba bands that are a feature of the country’s football matches also set to be snubbed by organisers. The ban even applies the official instrument of the World Cup, the caxirola, Brazil’s answer to the vuvuzela from the 2010 tournament in South Africa. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/10867067/World-Cup-2014-Englands-Three-Lions-supporters-band-likely-to-miss-out-on-as-organisers-refuse-to-let-them-play.html Great news. Bunch of absolute helmets.

Dan Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Dominate England's support far too much for me. Amazed that they've banned instruments in Brazil of all places.
Stadt Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Now just Andy Townsend to go. Probably banned for the same reason flagpoles are banned in Brazil, they used to be used to smuggle weapons in.
Unabomber Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Thank fuking god that these absolute dweebs have been banned, they have ruined every England game for me so far.
Stadt Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 I wouldn't mind them if they actually did something different even just occasionally but it's always the fvcking same absolute shit, mundane, boring, fvcking shit.
Jace Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 This is what happens when we go into a World Cup with low expectations already it is off to a fantastic start.
The Doctor Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Excellent. Might make watching England matches bearable. Particularly if Wembley could follow suit...
Kitchandro Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 This is good news but I think the World Cup will lack something without the Samba bands. That is, after all, what you would expect at a Brazilian world cup. Why don't they try banning the shitty goal music?
Danizen Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 This is good news but I think the World Cup will lack something without the Samba bands. That is, after all, what you would expect at a Brazilian world cup. Why don't they try banning the shitty goal music? Agreed. I absolutely hated Seven Nation Army after EURO 2012.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 We are the self preservation society... the self preservation society... we are the self preservation society. Well self-preserved there, thank fvck it's been banned.
Soar Fox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Regarding the atmosphere at England home games, I was watching a program on t.v earlier and the atmosphere seemed better when we travelled round the country playing our qualifiers. It was during the time new Wembley was being built and they were playing games around the country at different stadiums. Shame we can't do that anymore would much prefer to see England play at old Trafford, Emirates, St James Park, Etihad etc than at wembley all the time with the boring atmosphere.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Dominate England's support far too much for me. Amazed that they've banned instruments in Brazil of all places. You mean like Jobber,s drum?
Fox42 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 I'm appalled. I actually liked them :'(. Now each game will have the atmosphere of outer space again woohoo.
