Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Very funny guy, part of my youth and pretty much what everyone else has said.
AdamN Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Edmondson added: "There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. "And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard." Ade doesn't disappoint - a fitting tribute!
Rocket-Ron Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 "And the grown-ups will say "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say "Haven't you heard? Rik is dead! The People's Poet is dead!"
MPH Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Shame. I loved pretty much every thing he was famous for. "Hey Mr Bassman What is your name? My name is Colin Grigson. And playing the bass guitar is my gaa-aame So let's play the bass guitar NOW" This really is bad news....
Rincewind Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Not the kind of news I wanted to come home to. RIP is not enough. I wanted him to go on forever.
RobHawk Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 For those that haven't seen it he was genius in man down on channel 4 playing Greg Davies' Dad. Not the best series ever but Mayall was as good as ever! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NTBXP9NYr_E
Karljohn Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Ade 'now hes died for real, without me, selfish bastard' RIP Rik.
BlueSi13 Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Utterly utterly devastated at this news. So much joy, so much laughter, gone too soon. RIP Rik.
ozleicester Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Truly one of the greatest parts of my late teens/20s. Rik, the young ones/comic strip etc, were the pace setters for comedy of the time that to this day are quoted by my friends and family every single day. The peoples poet is dead "do you understand nothing?... how can he be dead, when we still have his poems? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q0CkeuSqxk
MattGamble92 Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Never been so down about someone dying that I don't know personally. I'm only 21 but I have the Bottom and Blackadder box sets and watched all the Young Ones. He's an absolute comedy hero. His genius was there for all to see when he performed. One of the greatest comedy actors we will ever produce. RIP Rik
Rusko187 Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Completely gutted about this news, I remember watching Bottom as a young kid.. It truly did teach me my humour, I was always hoping for them to do some sort of comeback but now he's gone. I'm never usually too upset when a celeb passes but this guy was a big part of my youth. RIP Rik Mayall
davieG Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Rik Mayall's wife has said there is no explanation for the 56-year-old comedian's death on Monday. "We don't know yet what happened," Barbara Robbin told reporters. "He had a strong heart so I don't think it was a heart attack." "Maybe he had a fit, maybe it was his heart. We just don't know until the coroner's report." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27776568 In pictures - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27770533
MPH Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Nothing less than a statue of him with his best 'bottom' face sticking two fingers up at passers by in Trafalgar square, will be good enough. .
Rincewind Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I think it was Rik Mayhall mentioned in Stephen Fry's book. They were doing revues together and Rik came into Fry's dressing room and asked if he wouldn;t mind swapping make up artists. When asked why he was a bit shy about it but Fry agreed although he was close on asking her out (yes he is gay but he liked her as a person) It was Rik;s present wife and he asked her about it once and she said she would have gone on a date, Although she liked Rik more.
separator Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 A scene from my favourite episode of Bottom, (Dough, from series 3)
BoneDog Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Tried to watch More Bad News last night but every video of it on Youtube is unavailable in our country so it says. 's ok it works on VideoMotion

LeicesterBran Posted 12 June 2014 Posted 12 June 2014 Didn't know much about him but, I was really sorry to hear he died. RIP Rik.
