Crazy Kop Corner Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Lloyd seems to think he was given a bum steer i.e Over 30's of only giving a one year contract broken. Surely it wouldn't have broken the bank to give him a two year contract.
Thracian Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 It was ridiculous to lose him without getting a genuinely pacey replacement. Schlupp was never going to be a winger as such. A potential attacking left-back, yes, or even a goals capable central midfielder from the little I saw of him there, but he doesn't have the confidence, cunning or crossing ability for a winger - any more than Knockaert does for some of the same and some different reasons. Why do we forever try to put square pegs in round holes?

Thracian Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Haha - we've not needed Alan Sheehan for years cos we've never had anyone who had the faintest idea how to threaten from crosses into the box. Now we've got Ulloa and Wood but it's no use because we've no-one who can cross the ball with any pace, flight or accuracy. You'd think someone might have noticed that but I've not seen any signs of it on the pitch and, true to Shankly's philosophy, injured players don't count. .
JonnyBoy Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 it was so weird seeing him celebrate his goal at Watford last night on the tv, miss him bad
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Losing Dyer, in hindsight, was not a good thing to happen. He should have been given a two year deal Too late now though.
cc_star Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Losing Dyer, in hindsight, was not a good thing to happen. He should have been given a two year deal Too late now though. No hindsight required It was obvious that if he wasn't replaced with a natural left sided player we could miss him in the squad and if he wasn't replaced with a pacey player we'd miss him in the 11 Big mistake not just to go the extra year, especially when we can off a 34 year old millions per year on a two year deal
maddog Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Anybody think the director of football has more to do with Lloyd leaving than Pearson? Pearson seemed to value him greatly and when he made him captain for the cup match last year Lloyd was so proud and chuffed as chips he said. Should have offered such a great servant to the club a 2 year deal. He was there in the League One days along with Pearson and was one of our best and most lively performers last season. Shame to see him leave and not be rewarded for not only his years of service but quality performances and his best season in a LCFC shirt last year as we stormed to the title. More than enough room for him in our current squad for sure. Loved his directness and willingness to run at players and his pace last year - electric.
GingerrrFox Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 People are looking back at Dyer with rose tinted spectacles. He was replaced by Mahrez in January and we never looked back. He's a good Championship winger, he's gone, he's being overrated in reminiscing, get over it.

He's a good Championship winger, he's gone, he's being overrated in reminiscing, get over it. We were already comfortably top when Mahrez came in. In fact, we'd won 9 games in a row with Lloyd starting. Mahrez actually came in just after that run ended. At the start of March.
Tuna Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Bonheaded move to let Dyer leave. Should have been offered a 2 year deal, to keep him. Who cares if he played or not next season? He is still a useful player and still has pace, can change games. He would have won us the game against Shrewsbury.
lifted*fox Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 He was superb last year, the best he's ever been. He chipped in with some important goals and it was a joy to watch other teams defences lose their shit when he was running at them. His crossing had become much better and he was whipping some greats balls into the box. It's very well saying rose-tinted specs, bla bla bla - however, I think the people being accused of that are the ones who saw exactly what he bought to the team in terms of pace, passion and offering a different option. People seem to forget the performances he put in such as Man City away in the cup as well. On his day he was a joy to watch, an exciting city player through and through. I think Lloyd was a little silly not accepting the year offered, he could have afforded himself that and totally deserved it. I also think we were a little silly not to offer him two years - it'd hardly break the bank and if he wasn't doing the business we could have loaned him out. There'd be a queue of Championship teams looking to take him and the fact that an aspiring Top 6 Watford side wanted him says enough really. Good to see him getting off to a good start at Watford though.

Mahrez actually came in just after that run ended. At the start of March. Dyer was part of the team/squad. Just like every other player, including Mahrez. Mahrez is a better footballer than Dyer, with a better brain. Don't get why people are still banging on about Dyer. He's a second tier player at best, probably why only Watford came in for him upon release. We have better wingers now.

Aside from the fact that your post ignores the fact that Dyer made a significantly larger contribution than Mahrez (SSL "contributed"), that's not the point I was addressing. Let's get our facts straight. We were a more successful side LAST SEASON with Dyer than without. Whether we would be better with him this year we'll never know. I think we're all agreed that Mahrez is a better player and NP clearly thinks that Mahrez' skills are better suited to the PL.
wight88 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Only getting one point out of Everton and Chelsea clearly means panic stations all round. I will therefore continue to break wind in the general direction of our enlightened supporters on an irregular basis.
theessexfox Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 My favourite Leicester player of the last 10 years.
Vardinhio Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I still miss Lloyd and wish he was here. Why do people say he is a championship player at best? Bit of a ridiculous comment considering he tore the champ to peices and in the few cup games against prem opposition he has been our stand out player. Lloyd not being here is a mistake on both sides, the clubs and his. I'd love to here what Nigel actually thinks about it all, I'm sure he's gutted he doesn't have him. His presence in the team alone would stop right backs moving as far forward and players just can't handle his pace.
