Dyer departs to Watford

Assuming he didn't get a career ending injury. He's also probably get less the following year as well. It makes sense for him to want the security of a 2 year contract.

He may get a bad injury, but it would have to be pretty serious to stop him getting any job.

This is what I don't get about this financial security he needs, he is on good money as a footballer and he probably won't match it after he retires, but hopefully he has invested it well and bought some property. Has some savings and a targeted sports pension and insurance in case of injury.

If he retired now at 32 he still has 30 years to work and provide for his family, you know like the rest of us do. Most of us won't earn in our entire lives what he has already earned.

Unless he was offended by the offer and didn't want to be at the club, I cannot see any reason why he would choose Watford for 3 years over playing in the Prem for one season. Just bizarre all round.

If you've listened to the interview he gave Dyer said he felt mistreated by LCFC after they breached their over 30s one year contract offer by giving a longer one to Morgan.

He seems annoyed Morgan got treated as a special case. Dyer is the type of player who needs to feel valued so he went looking for just that.

Poor of the club if the case, it is a silly rule anyway, we don't want players running out their contracts again like this summer. If they offered a contract like GTF, one year with an appearance based extension for over thirties, then I think that is best for everyone. If he isn't getting games he can leave, if he is then he is still tied to the club.

Hopefully they have revised that rule, for Upson it makes sense as he is 35, but for 30-34 they still could have a good few years left.

You're talking about going from possibly a million pounds a year to maybe thirty thousand a year after he's retired, are you honestly telling me you wouldn't prefer two more years playing football for a living on good money than some office job or running a post office or whatever he's got planned.

With the money he's made invested properly he need never work another day in his life. Same goes for pretty much any footballer who has spent at least a few years at the top level.

I guess the problem is the high life is addictive. That's why so many of them go bankrupt once their careers are over.

We don't know how he's invested his money, he might have made bad investments or he might have pissed it up the wall. You can't blame anyone for wanting to earn good money for as long as possible.

It's the way people are talking about financial security, like he isn't going to earn another penny after completing his 1 year contract offered by us and he won't be able to provide for his family.

Not saying he shouldn't be looking to maximize his earnings now, but a chance to play for the club he loves at the highest level of the game, which is a culmination of all the hard work and effort he has put into the club over the last 6 years, may not be the best option financially, but I know it would haunt me forever, especially seeing our injury problems and knowing he would have played some part in our first two matches. Instead he is on the Watford bench.

Just a crazy decision from Lloyd there is more to life than money, and really he is in a position where he doesn't need to worry about money.

If his financial situation is so parlous that he's choosing a bench-warming spot in the Championship over a shot at the Prem just because it's marginally more financially secure, then to be honest I feel sorry for him. And he should fire his accountant.

You're assuming he would have got a game, the fact that club only offers him a one year contract suggests they weren't bothered whether he signed or not.

Yup, I'm assuming he would have got at least a little game time.

I can see why he went for the more secure option (with probably more pitch time), but unfortunately it's not turned out that way and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Speaking for the purely monetary aspect of it, I honestly can't understand how a person who makes five-figure sums per week for a few consecutive years can't at least hire someone capable of planning for the future for them.

It's nit hard to understand that our captain is more worthy if a longer contract

I agree, however if Leicester came and said that then I can see why he was annoyed.

I know it's easy to say as I'm not fortunate to experience the high life, but I would invest in properties with the wages they are on.

Absolutely - the bloke is so badly missed. Schluppy's quick and quite skillful but doesn't seem to have the confidence or finale to pose a real threat. Even when he does well I find myself expecting a tame ending. Whereas with Lloyd he always posed a threat. Wasted some I agree, but the threat was there and defenders knew it.

If we'd of recruited right (I know theres still time but it's running out and doubt we will get who we want) we wouldn't be missing someone of Lloyds calibre.

But my god he would compliment our team so well right now.

Its alright saying move on buts its obviously a mistake. People saying Schlupp is quick, okay he's got some pace, but Dyer was like a bullet. It just scared full backs. It stretched teams, it made them double up, it was a fundamental part of why we went up.

I honestly don't think we truly ripped anyone apart without him, as much as I rate Mahrez.

I take the point of take away his pace and you left with very little but he's in the best condition of his career and just had the best season of his life. He was worth 3 years and we'll pay the price if he isn't replaced
