AKCJ Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Hopefully Algeria play their usual expansive and attacking style.
darko2k7 Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Geniunely think Algeria will win this. And with odds of 2/1 i think i might stick alittle on it or Mahrez to score first and Algeria to win is 20/1, thats got to be worth atleast a pound
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 My money's on South Korea. Mahrez is a great talent though, without a doubt
Algeriafan Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Algerian press is saying that Mahrez won't be starting. As I predicted after the Belgium match, he'll be dropped for Djabou to freshen things up. Pity because if we wanted to see Mahrez's qualities, this was the game. He was basically playing like a full back against Belgium. I'm (for obvious reasons) hoping we take the lead and then South Korea will have to take more risks. If we go into the last 30 minutes with that sort of game, Mahrez would be the perfect substitution, so I'm still hopeful that we'll see him on at some point in the game.
ScouseFox Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 first england go out then riyad gets dropped, worst world cup ever
Kitchandro Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Dropping him is a disgrace. The Algerian's looked very short of technical skill and flair and they refused to give him the ball when he was making good runs.
DeclanMC Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Typical Google Translate nonsense, but here's a L'Equipe article on Riyad. https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=fr&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lequipe.fr%2FFootball%2FActualites%2FMahrez-de-sarcelles-a-porto-alegre%2F476208&edit-text=
Asha Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Dropping him is a disgrace. 'kinell. Just 'cause we all bum him doesn't mean it's a disgrace for him not to be selected. I'm sure they know what they're doing.
StanSP Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Mahrez should be playing. Why is he dropped? Just to give the other guy a chance? Mahrez didn't even get a proper chance to shine when you play so defensively so where's his opportunity? It's a shame but I'm not the Algerian manager so...!
ealingfox Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 The Algeria manager is a shit twat. Bottled it against Belgium taking Mahrez off, which then directly caused the 2nd Belgium goal, Mahrez had operated that left flank so effectively, he goes off and then they are all at sea on that side gifting Mertens the goal. The game was not made for Riyad one bit, but he still looked tidy and worked hard, and Belgium had absolutely no joy down that side while he was on. Now he's thinking of not starting his 2nd best player. Amateur stuff.
Algeriafan Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Dropping him is a disgrace. The Algerian's looked very short of technical skill and flair and they refused to give him the ball when he was making good runs. Let's watch the game today first, only then will we know if we're short of technical skill and flair. Belgium match isn't the right game to make those assessments. They're the much better team and I think both teams gave each other too much respect/were nervous/struggled in the heat (not making excuses, it affected both teams and neither were near their best for me). I'd argue even Belgium looked short of technical skill and flair in that game. Djabou who's coming in for Mahrez is a very talented player, and we'll also see Brahimi in a CAM position. Keep an eye out for him, when he's on form, Mahrez doesn't come close to him in terms of technical skill and flair Mahrez should be playing. Why is he dropped? Just to give the other guy a chance? Mahrez didn't even get a proper chance to shine when you play so defensively so where's his opportunity? It's a shame but I'm not the Algerian manager so...! I'd agree with that, the Belgium game definitely wasn't the game to see Mahrez shine in an attacking sense. I really don't think he's being dropped because he had a bad performance. Manager realises we struggled physically and sat too deep, so he won't be judging our attacking players on that performance. It's mainly to keep players fresh and also to give the team a different dynamic which South Korea may not have prepared for (we're talking about making 5/6 changes in the starting 11). The Algeria manager is a shit twat. Now he's thinking of not starting his 2nd best player. Amateur stuff. I'm a great admirer of Mahrez. I called for him to be in the squad for world cup while most Algerians I know didn't think he was ready. But he's definitely not our second best player, that's for sure. He's not even our second best AM/winger (Brahimi and Feghouli). He'll play again this world cup, I'm sure of it. If I had predict now, I'd say he'd start the game against Russia (obviously it depends on what happens today, but giving Mahrez a bit of a rest after all the effort he put in against Belgium is understandable).

Dr The Singh Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 Not going to watch the game now, ruined it for me
AKCJ Posted 22 June 2014 Posted 22 June 2014 I thought he was excellent for Algeria. Always brought the ball out and calmed the defence down.
